Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (03/22/2010)

But aren't they more likely to say "Well, if I have to kill VE anyway, I might as well collect this pin while I'm at it"? And it's bound to be even worse for non-ex drops. (More people hunting them, for whatever reason, might flood the market, but only for ones that aren't already saturated with campers.)

The "kill 500 beetles on earthsday or during earth weather" type objectives seem better at first, but since they have to be worth experience points, you might need to find level sync people in specific level ranges... and what does the sync person get out of it, other than a trickle of exp from easy prey mobs? (Obviously, this depends somewhat on whether there is a good supply of mobs of that family that are EP to 75 -- or, later, 80, 90, or 99. IDK what higher level camps are going to be introduced in the next 9 months, but if you're planning on doing a trial that relies on mobs that are only barely EP to 75, you might want to do it now...)
Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
    RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54

Is that true? That's a pretty disgusting timesink right there. Making them EP or above dramatically reduces down the number you can kill in the tiny windows the weather conditions last for.

More than that, are these weapons greater or just near as great as a Relic? If so, then that somewhat balances out the idea. You have a chance to get a relic type of weapon with a more sure-fire odd than waiting more than 2+ years to get a relic. Just get in an alliance and get the kill... or wait, let an ls screw you over and let 30 other ppl get ahead of you because the leader has them on his jock and get your relic. Yah.... ePiC
Some of the NMs they have listed will always be heavily camped, VE and Hoo Mjuu for instance. Combined with the whole Evolith Hunt System, SE has more or less already assured that any named mob will be slaughtered moments after spawning until the end of time.

And some of these weapons are almost as strong as relics, with the pure Dmg boosting ones matching/surpassing the Dmg rating of base relics. However Relics are still the best weapons in game due to their unique WS, stat boosts, added effects, random massive damage increase and especially now that they can be boosted as well with the potential to be made even stronger in time. And if the "Occasionally attacks 3-4 times" Augment people found in the dats can be attached to Relics through this whole Magian System, then it won't even be a contest as to what the strongest weapons in game would be.

In the end, it would have been nicer if they let you get this stuff in a BC. But what kind of player personality is SE catering to here? Item whores, casual players, or the general player populace?
It's clear that SE made these weapons available to all players, as most can be obtained 100% solo...if you grind long enough. Because really, that's all you need to do to get these weapons, grind, grind, grindidy grind. A few "Defeat XX strong monster in YY BC zone" to break up the monotony of the grindfest quests would have been very welcomed, but unfortunately SE wanted this to be a massive time sink, so we get what we got.

If you level synch being lvl 75 isn't really an issue. I mean, you can do the Beetles thing in a 45ish QSC party since you still gain points towards the goal while synched. It's still an ass of a system, but at least that part was decently handled. Especially since they actually keep count for you in game similar to how FoVs keep track of your progress.

Speaking of pointless timesinks, how about those Smilebringer Boot Camp NPCs infesting the zones? I just checked one (Marlena in Rolanberry), and apparently they're soooooo wanted by the playerbase that nobody has even entered them in Wiki yet.

Except that people didn't need help killing them. The problem for the people camping VE and Hoo Mjuu is getting The Claim so that they get the chance to fight and get No Drop. Now the only slight improvement is if they all join the same alliance and lot for The Drop instead of ninja claiming. If it drops.

If they're going to pull this crap on already overcamped NMs, they damn well better decrease the repop times. Do the people coming up with this shit even play the game enough to understand how overcamped they are? And the server merges just made things twice as bad on what are now eight worlds.

Latent break quests, We're looking at you. At least it's possible to see if you've finished or not because of the stat changes, but you have no idea how far you are unless you've been counting.

Hmmm, I think I’m one of the very few that ‘like’ this system. I like how you can get Bst/Pup weapons with pet stats and that you can somewhat choose what you want on them (by doing certain trials vs. the same Gras [s] fight 100 times).

Some of the trials suck yeah. But I think in 2-3 weeks it will die down. Especially once you get past the first couple trials.

a level 24 (at witch you can equip the pin) can not solo VE alone

I am talking about newer players here, you know the ones that started playing not to long ago, and that we can easily help sometimes?

There are witch's in this game?

But seriously, I agree, this might lead to high level help for low level players NM hunting needs. I know it would have been nice to get some help with VE when I was beginning to level Thf Versus waiting until I was 40+.

damn. either way I refuse to do these Magian weapons just yet since the best ones with OAT all require VNM drops and even just getting up there is a pain.

FFS the Dagger (31 DMG 211 Delay OAT) requires 300 Hippogryphs! Screw that.
