If these "trials" were actually, oh I dunno....quests it would have been a lot more fun to upgrade things. While I appreciate the attempt to make them mostly soloable, a Campaign Op or assault like system of varying quests and requirements would have been a LOT more fun and a worthwhile waste of time. But instead, I have to go camp an NM who's lifespan for the past 8 years has never once exceeded 3 minutes.

This Magian shit is why there are 8 75s suddenly camping Desmodont in Outer Horutoto Ruins? Get the fuck out of here.

I'm like 0/9 on this asshole (yeah, I actually want Fidelity Mantle as it's the only cape a PUP can bother wearing for any benefit before Bellicose Mantle) and I just pop into the ruins every few hours, kill the 2 bats and Desmodont generally spawns the next time around. Nobody camps this fucker.

Last night I head in there and there's a fuckton of 75s camping it. My first thought was "wow, did the PUP update really attract so many new people to the job that this many people are camping this asshole now?". I had no idea this fucktarded system was responsible.

You know, I was only camping this dick because nobody else does. The cape isn't THAT fantastic (Pet: Store TP +3) but I don't have anything better to wear for 5 more levels and there was no effort involved in stopping by Amaryllis Tower every now and again. Now what is the point? I'm already 0/9 so the drop rate is obviously shit tier. I am not even going to bother trying to out-claim 8 other people, and this isn't even an NM that people actually camp regularly. I can't even imagine how bad shit like Valkurm Emperor is camped right now.


I'm sure it wont be so bad once the "OMG TRIAL OF THE MAGIANS NEW SHIT GO GO GO" wears off, but it's still a damn stupid idea in the first place.

I popped home for lunch to check my mule and OP'd to Valkurm Dunes to check just this....lol....let me say on Bahamut at least, it's crazy

Usually there are 3-5 ppl there regardless whether they need it or not, now there's at least 20+...I went 1/10ish on VE, I can only imagine how hard it is now

Well the only good thing so far is that you only need to be in the party/alliance for the kill to count. if you see some 75's camping your nm and they are using those new weapons, just ask if you could join them for the drop. if they don't want you in then I guess its HNM camping for dummies or something.

I liked how this thing said "quests level 75" players and im sitting in pashow marshlands waiting for bloodpool vorax for the third time. Then I'm off to valkrum dunes for golden bat. I don't know if they're trying to tell me something or....

From what everyone is saying, these are kinda crappy. Is there a god reward for these, or no?
SE is making this game even more grindy that what it was. And now with making common camped NMs camped even more for people to complete the quests? Omg... Glad I decided not to do the crappy new quests loll

Well i'm after the high damage final forms. Great sword with 93 base damage and scythe with 105. Was a long hard debate over those or the fire branch but id figure more base damage can never be a bad thing.

The implementation of this not only puts me off playing FFXI it's also making me seriously consider whether I want to play FFXIV. Rather than recognising the factors of the game people don't enjoy and not repeating them, they're doing the complete opposite and introducing more and more ludicrous timesinks. Give me something challenging in order to achieve superior gear not these lazy whack-a-mole trials.

I am with you with that. They needs to make some of the stuff they add actually fun (OMG!). It can't be too hard to do. Make the monsters you have to kill a BCNM type of fight, instead of over camped NMS.

Last search I did on FFXIclopedia did not list anything other than the ring's description/stats.

Anyone have opinions on the Moonlight tier AN items that are available? Anyone get 1 or more yet?

Weapons with "Occasionally Attacks Twice" that have decent damage and can be obtained solo. There are also weapons with the (non-relic) highest pure Dmg on them, or weapons that have bonuses like +Str/Att or +Dex/Acc, even +Vit/-PDT. Generally speaking, these are potentially top tier weapons for every class in the game for multiple situations in the game and are mostly obtained 100% solo.

Of course it's a pure unadulterated grind, but still, completely soloable.

If you want the high damage OAT staff, you'll need an HNMLS/EG group or at least a bunch of reliable friends. The weaker OAT weapons can be gained solo, but require more trials, the high damage OAT weapon however needs 10 drops from one of the new HNMs. Which is actually faster to obtain...but requires hunting NMs. Thankfully they're...semi force popped so it's not going to come down to a claimfest once you get to that point.

Are people generally joining big alliances to get the kills of these NMs? Or is it every little peon group for himself? I mean, on one side; at least everyone can get credit for the kill if everyone allys up. Of course, for anyone wanting an Emp Pin, it really screws them over too by the bigger numbers of ppl bogartin ur camp. It makes it no fun and who wants to play a game where you stand in line all day and camp an NM for bs nothing.... now at x10 worse luck..... lol

But its not like everyone deserves to have an Emp Pin, just like everyone doesn't deserve to have Excalibur and Aegis, according to "the rules."

However, SE could have been nicer to the player base and more sympathetic and not done it this way too. I have a feeling there will be enough complaining about this that SE will do something to make it easier.

But even if they did do that, whose to say in six months or so, the huge rush to camp these things will still be in effect? If SE makes it easier then suddenly people aren't camping the NMs, then the little guy has this huge advantage hehe. Yay little guy.... get your Emp Pin in less than 5 minutes.

More than that, are these weapons greater or just near as great as a Relic? If so, then that somewhat balances out the idea. You have a chance to get a relic type of weapon with a more sure-fire odd than waiting more than 2+ years to get a relic. Just get in an alliance and get the kill... or wait, let an ls screw you over and let 30 other ppl get ahead of you because the leader has them on his jock and get your relic. Yah.... ePiC

In the end, it would have been nicer if they let you get this stuff in a BC. But what kind of player personality is SE catering to here? Item whores, casual players, or the general player populace? lol If you ask me, it's stupid to chase after pixel crack and get upset about it; vehemently upset even. And we all know FFXI's history. It's item whore vs item whore. I find it funny that people I know who have relics aren't even playing the game anymore. And all that blood sweat and tears and drama they poured into the game really amounts to jack squat $\nI7

FFXI is not dying, it has evened out, and will even out one more time after FFXIV comes out. FFXI is dying as much as UO, EQ, EQ2, L2, and many other old MMOs are dying.

am I staying with FFXI when FFXIV comes out? Doubt, because FFXIV will fit in my schedule much easier, but I am sure FFXI will go on many many years after I leave.


The new system was designed to have more people fight the lower level NMs, People that would not need the items. that way someone who does need it, could easily get help in killing it.
