Or if you're like me and have a second account, you can actively trade the gil to another account, and trade it back to the main. If you have someone you can trust (IE, someone you can beat IRL to high heavens if they do something stupid), you can use them too.

I think all my alt-purchasing will be on my second account this year, for simplicity... that and my main account only has one active content ID.

What KingofZeal said, or put something up on the AH in a starter city (something obscure that no one really buys) for 1 gil and then over-bid it with your mule.

I'd be worried about the inherent race condition in the AH laundering above, but whatever. Seems to me that just leaving the money on the mule until you need it makes sense, but I guess if you're trying to buy something worth millions of gil that would be awkward. Almost certainly easier to get the mule to Jeuno or WG and buy directly than transfer funds, though.

Running it through the AH is very risky. About the only way to really ensure it works successfully is to get a relatively rare/inactive item that is sold out, pop it on for much, much more than it's going price, and then bid on it with all the money on the mule. But even then, if someone else puts one up while you're doing that, you're screwed. I would still say getting a RL friend to help would be a better way to go.

If you like PvE it's worth looking into. The games does actually feel a lot like FFXi with a more up to date engine. For PvE the classes are well balanced since there is rarely a reason why you shouldn't invite any given class and there are plenty of challenging instances. NM farming is also very hassle free since they respawn quickly, are mostly soloable by the right classes and you can just move onto another channel (zone instance) if you have heavy competition or it's being overcamped. The crafting system is also very fun to use though it's hard to make a profit with it until you can reliably HQ things.

The lore to the game is pretty terrible though and is pretty generic. Most of the time it's hard to understand what's going on and many quests are bugged or hard to do because of translation errors. There are monsters whose names are mis-translated and sometimes you can run into mobs with the same name and appearence but they are classes as different mobs because of the game's terrible translation into English.

If you like PvP it's not worth it though due to the following:

• Terrible imbalances between classes, Basically the only classes worth playing in PvP are Sorceror, Cleric, Chanter (basically Red Mage) and maybe Ranger if the auto-attack glitch is fixed and auto attack damage is ever given a buff to put it on par with Sorcerors.
• The ability for high level people to roam and gank low level people in both low level PvP and PvE zones is NOT fun at all.
• Flight making tanks useless in PvP since you can just fly around them.
• Abyss Points and Medals (the currency you use to buy endgame gear by taking part in PvP) only being awarded if you are actually in combat which means that Clerics rarely if ever get any.
• Medals are awarded by total damage done in seiges which means that Templars (Basically PLD/WAR), Rangers (assuming they don't get lucky and crit everything in sight) and Clerics rarely if ever get a medal are are always prevented from keeping thier gear up to date because of it.
• You guild leader also has full control over who some of the medals go to. Guess how fun that is if your guild leader is only out for himself and his inner circle?
• No Area Effect crowd control abilities means that my Cleric and Ranger have very short life expectancies in PvP. Watching an entire enemy alliance fly over your melee fighters and tear apart your poor little cleric isn't really fun when it happens every time you reraise. Guess who also gets blamed for a wipe when this happens?
• It's not worth taking zones for your realm because if you start dominating (a very easy thing to do on my server because the other side is pretty demoralised and can't be bothered fighting back), a third faction spawns with HUGE numbers and undoes everything you have worked so hard to do for the last day or so.

Just announcing a minor edit. S-E had, in an obvious typo, listed "Shadow Ring" twice in the list of possible Rank 1 prizes, but had recently corrected one of those listings to actually be "Shadow Mantle." So, I added it to the OP.

Not that I think it's a very big deal, I'm just putting that out there.

Last year I attempted this (... and will again) but missed one # cuz of buying while intoxicated... I realized it after, and thought: "oh well... I couldn't be that unlucky..."

UPshot - I was that unlucky... I didn't get jacksh!t last year cept storage -10

... all I want is a damn statue now. All the other prizes would be cool but I'm not holding my breath.

I did something different this year to make it more exciting. I have 6 mules. Last year i wrote down all my numbers, that way when the winning numbers were announced i'd know what i won. well, i didnt win shit... So, this time, i didnt write down any of my numbers, i could have 10 rank 1 prizes, i dont know. I'm not even going to look at the marbles when i login tonight. I'm just going to take each mule to the npc, trade the marbles to him, and just wait and see. At least this way, it draws out the experience and makes it more exciting. (Until it's all over and I feel the same way I felt last bonanza...)
