Campaign non-NMs *are* stuff that can't hurt you much anyway (for PLD, anyway). And more TP = more atonement = more exp/AN.

Also, Lmnop has a good point about /NIN: it's not how much damage you reduce, it's whether or not you complete your Ichi cast (which will save you far more damage over the next 10 seconds than any shield block would). A buckler is actually better for /NIN than a size 3 if you either have, or can get, shield mastery. (Of course if you have shield mastery natively, there's no reason *this* buckler is necessarily better than any other buckler.)

Also sometimes you're fighting shit that can't wear you down but how quickly you can kill it does matter (e.g. farming some coffer key; faster kills = time saved.)

Guys, are you even using the optional POL+ filters?

Once you've got the few suffixes for china covered, you won't see much mail and as a direct result, much less in-game spam.

Additionally, its also kind of your own fault if you pick popular letters to start your name with. Putting yourself at the top of the alphabet is just asking for it, especially so when the second letter is easy to push to the top as well, which is going to put you higher on the list.

I've seriously never encountered a big problem with RMT spam in FFXI, at worst maybe three tells in over five years. I have to assume my naming conventions pushed me pretty far down the list, but I have had to deal with emails and I was able to fix that problem pretty easily with the tools SE gave me.

So I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the people that are suffering the issue still haven't used the tools properly.

are you saying you dont get RMT tells because your name starts with 'O'? Mine starts with 'R' and i'll get 1-5 tells an hour. I even warn my LS their coming some times. Once i get one i'll say "S's get ready for rmt tells". which is usually followed by "Got it :/", "there it is","GRRR","(insert angry RMT comment".

All the same, spam tells are merely an annoyance. The thing that frustrates me most about them is that there are people that really do use the services and, therefore, won't actually stop RMT because the people that buy gil won't filter them anyway.

Infinitely preferrable to RMT monopolizing sky NMs, MPKing others who legitimately (or so it would seem) claim mobs, and a new complaint about hacked accounts every other day, though. I don't even see the 5 BLM tarus following around a hume WHM anymore. Honestly, I think SE is putting more of an effort to immediately deal with them. But it is unfortunate that they cannot figure out how to get ahead of them.

I long for the days when gilsellers were just a bunch of 6 undergeared DRGS in Davoi, though.

I remember walking into Upper Jeuno one time and getting a warp scroll and having the worst possible time because there were like 50 naked lv 1 hume girls all standing around crowding the tele-crystal........ it made me rather suspicious....

There could be other factors for my experience. I can't exactly deny that RNG and COR get all their best gear for free. All I have are ammo expenses there for the most part. Easy enough to cope with.

I don't sit here worrying about having a Hagun, Vermy Cloak and such. I never caved in to the E. Bow hype, I rode that Selene Bow until Vali Bow emerged. O-Bow, again, totally free - I'm just glad my THF buddy was there to help make it drop. That one actually helps save me loads of gil.

Then there's BST - a job with no peer pressure whatsoever. SCH, once again, all my best stuff is free.

Not every job can say that, though. Some jobs get targeted because there are bigger pressure points than the ones I'm facing.

Could also be that being on Odin, there's way more people to sift through and they just never get to me. Were I to move back to Titan, I wouldn't be surprised if I saw RMT tells. That server was on its death bed before the Jan. 22 bannings came along and cleaned its clock.

In all fairness the last thing anyone was thinking when they named their characters at or near NA launch was "I wonder if RMT will become a problem 4 years down the line and they'll start abusing /search to spam /tells in alphabetical order." And even if someone did think of that for whatever reason, I doubt they'd sacrifice the name he wants just to have a lower probability of getting spammed. It's still SE's responsibility more than anyone else's to alleviate the issue.

I'll concede that Odin being one of the locked-off servers has certainly been a factor in preventing further RMT activity, that's about all I can concede here though. If you have one MMO under your belt, you know about RMT, so you know what you name yourself can potentially lead to being contacted by RMT.

Could SE just cut off tells from the trial version? Sure, they could. RMT would be bugging us in a new way within one week's time, so that's a temporary fix at best. They sure don't seem to have a problem getting low level jobs to whitegate to sell sky drops in /shout. Why do you think they implemented the fishing fatigue for early levels the way they did? It was because RMT still buy new accounts. They take a credit card and either use it until its maxed out or SE bans accounts associated with it, then they use a new one until SE finds that one out.

We are talking about a group that can level a BLM in one week's time an have it in sky the one week after the previous account got banned. People who position hack gnomes to drop from the sky into Horde territory to spell out the name of their gold site. They will find a way so long as idiots keep giving them money. The companies that make the MMOs can only do so much to slow these people down or stop them. To eliminate them entirely would require overhauls to game mechanics.

Overhauls people might not like or be willing to accept.

My character's name is always at the top of most "S" searches so I can get anything from 1-12 tells per hour. On a different note I also seem to get /tells pestering me to join parties literally within seconds of logging on if I am on COR or PLD. Actually the likelyhood of me getting a COR invite within 5 minutes of logging on is always directly proportionate with how little ammunition and cards I have in my MH .

Has anyone done any .DAT mining for this update? I'm curious to see if there is any WHM gear in this update or am I just getting my hopes up to get something we can use? . I'm not sure if I will be getting back to FFXI because of this update, FFXi has just been too tedious and stressful for the last few months, but it would be nice to find out if WHM got any shinies that are actually worth the effort to get and equip from the new gear mentioned.
