Again. Incredibly shitty DMG. These weapons may as well be Mercurial Kris and Mercurial Poles.

        Fendoir (Axe)
        DMG:14 Delay:288
        Occasionally attacks twice
        Lv 69 WAR, BST

        There. Multi-hit 1-handed axe.
Man, some basic daggers probably put that to shame. I'll stick with Temperance Axe, thanks.

Although...Temperance Axe+Fendoir+SCH's Enspell+Primal Rend = Profit on elemental mobs? It's a situation that doesn't happen enough to make it worth it but...

Ouch. I'm familiar with the discussion of the use of MV as a zerg method in AV speculation threads (making a helix instantly do enough damage to kill AV from just above the bracers threshold HP). So when I read that at first I thought it said that a minimum time length was required between MV uses. But it seems it's a minimum time that has to elapse between applying the helix and MVing it. Depending on how long that time is, this could be a rather huge nerf of MV overall, but we won't know until the minimum delay is determined.

(I'm guessing this was to cap the maximum potential damage of a helix tick by making more of the duration elapse up front; as it is, it was apparently theoretically impossible to stack more than 11 MVs on a helix without killing the helix effect immediately, and in practice just getting 8-9 was extremely difficult. It sounds like this preserves the potential to stack MV for big damage, but probably lowers the total damage potential; by how much will depend on the minimum delay. That said, if the delay is stupidly long, MV might lose any point it had...)

As for the Soboro question, my understanding is that it's all about the potential for WS spam, that the low WS damage potential is made up for in increased frequency. Whether that actually puts it roughly on par with other alternatives seems to be a point of some controversy.

Edit: As regards the multi-hit GAxe and Axe, it was suggested to me that these might be intended simply to ease the skillup difficulties players are experiencing from their (ab)use of the Level Sync system. Though we'll have to see how they're added to the game; if they're extremely hard to get, probably no one will bother. Unless they're a side result of getting something more worthwhile anyway.

I request that Malacite stop it with the sensationalist language. You can only "WTF" so many times before it loses all meaning.

I'll look through the dat mines when I get home. Meanwhile, though, while that beret likely won't see as much DPS as a Walmart Turban (unless you have a pet . . . ), it's kind of interesting that it also has Defense on it, as opposed to the Turban.

I could see that being a good reason for it. I know for sure I need to cap Axe lol. Great Axe is decent, but when I got to a certain level I forgot all about Axe. I think the main reason was that I couldn't afford Maneater and Woodville's Axe at the time, but when I could they were nowhere to be found in the AH.

Re: The Version Update Is Here! (11/10/2009)

Dual wielding multi-hit weapons is usually worse or just as good as single wielding the better multi-hit of your pair. Very seldom is it better by more than a small margin.

Just so we're clear on that...

                      ---

                      Soboro sukehiro
                      (Great Katana) All Races
                      DMG: 40 Delay: 450

                      Kinship Axe
                      DMG:30 Delay:504

Analysis of what multi-hit weapons do for you: lower your normal ("white") DPS, lower WS damage, but dramatically increase WS frequency.

Hard to calculate if this actually affects overall DPS (including WS), but I find the following worthy of pointing out:

Put this on a job who specializes in DPS (Warrior). You now deal less of what you're best at and use mediocre WSs.

Put this on a job whose specialty is WS. You now do your best even more. Sure, you take a nice hit in damage, but you have what is likely the best DPS multi-hit weapon.

                      But here's a truth:
All the WS you use have a 75% str mod and are only one-hit. The properties of your weapon tend to mean less.

                      ----

Lots of people have wanted to see this forever, so here you go:

                      Ebur Galea

                      CanEquip, NoSale, Ex
                      Lv 71 PLD

And there's probably more where that came from. Grats, PLD can now equip something that'll do less than haste. weeee.

So basically, because the SAM has the whopping STR modifer on their YGK, it's worthwhile for them to use 2-3 hit weapons which doesn't deter from them performing less damage on a grand scale. In the long run, you really will do more damage.

So really, all the hype about these new axes is really just hype. Unless... do you think maybe these items can be upgradeable with the new socketed stones or synergy skill?

I wonder if they have a plan/use for those instances.

Normally, attribute (secondary) mods on WSs aren't worth contemplating. But 75% of a stat you already want lots of (STR) is just ridiculous.

Also, Y/G/K just have decently high damage normally (1.5 at 100%. I believe it used to be 1.25 or something even lower).
