Why does Callisto get to transform into a fairy? I wanna be able to be one too...

*I* went from 40-75 in campaign on my first job. As a WHM, though, which is perhaps the best job to learn lessons from it. By the time I was 60, I had a good understanding of hate, especially in group situations, and I could estimate what heal I needed to drop on a given HP bar, with mixed levels and weakeneds around. And at 65 or so, I found that I could actually lolWHMmelee, and survive long enough until someone could pull hate off me. And I learned crowd control by playing BLM in campaign, but not until after 60.

Melee going from 40-75 in campaign? I can see how they could be gimp.

I just didn't want to xp party main heal because I thought it was boring as hell. I didn't want to nod off or get distracted and fuck over 5 other people because I was bored. Campaign gives you regular breaks, and nobody complains when you sit idle for half an hour. And there was the challenge of doing it The Wrong Way. And it was more fun to be a mobile healer anyhow, rather than sitting in back where I couldn't see what was going on.

And I don't want to be in your meripo party, and I'm so happy that nobody blind-tell invites WHM75. I'm no meripo hound, I even maxed out before I spent my first one. I don't want to do die-namis. I don't even really care about assault, but I would like to see a few more PSC shouts so I can make PFC someday to get a particular gear. If I ever care enough I'll start my own assault party.

How about for a ranged attack you hold the book open in front of you and your mouth moves.

Of course, the ranged attack would only hit if the mob was exactly 10' away.

We keep talking about Campaign battles, but if we were really invested in winning, we would be doing appropriate Campaign Ops. Not just the same old ones that you can do by just running around town. Bitching about how the fort has no items? Why don't you (or anybody else) do an Ops to replenish them then? But people, they just do the ones that are most accessible to them to get freebie EXP. That's understandable considering some Ops in some areas are really an unnecessary hassle.

But until I start seeing shouts to group up for the party Campaign Ops which involve strenghtening your NPCs or healers, or regular supply runs being done in large, inconvenient places like Sauromugue Champaign [s], I'm going to remain convinced that people, regardless of their espouses for teamwork and the good of the Allied Forces, are not really interested in winning.
Kamiel and I do Cut and Cauterize regularly, it's quite good xp if you alternate credits between party members. It's hard to get a third though since people don't know about the op and don't tend to believe us when we say they can idle afk in our party and get free xp.

Also, Sauromugue Champaign is one of the easier places to do supply transport at low levels; there's only one aggro mob on the path and it's not that hard to get around. Just remember that it's faster to teleport to Meriphataud and zone into Sauromugue. If you want an example of a zone that's a real pain to supply, try Pashhow Marshlands. Unless you have Recall-Jugner, you basically have to teleport to Grauberg and walk through nearly half the zone to get to the Pashhow Gate Sentry's location. Then have quite the hike through Pashhow to deliver them. Definitely worse than Rolanberry or Sauromugue. I imagine Jugner's not a breeze to manage either, though I don't have much experience trying to do any of the Sandy ones; the fact that all of Sandy's zones contain severe aggro risk steered me away from that nation, since I use ops for xp on low level jobs mostly.

The biggest problem campaign-wise at the moment at least on Midgardsormr is a mass exodus from the Republican Army of Bastok and Federal Forces of Windurst to the Royal Army of San d'Oria. The addition of ANNMs seems to have been the main catalyst, but Splitting Heirs is also a clear and significant incentive toward this. As a result, Bastok and especially Windurst have had their cities under attack frequently since the update before this... Windurst also has gone broke frequently (a critical lack in funding will cause all ops except Resource Procurement to become unavailable).

They might be ok if I could make the curries to make them. >_>

Everytime they announce new recipes, why does alchemy get nothing....WE LOSE! GOOD DAY SIR! I kinda figured all of the augmentible weps would be made by Smithing, most have sold for 500k on my server. I'm going to wait to see what the possible augments are before I jump on the bandwagon to either buy one or find the parts and aggro a Goblin Blacksmith for his smithing skills.

And yet, I already said I'm elitist. I'm tired of shitty players with shitty gear walking around like they can do "whatever they want" until they join my party and gimp it up. Sorry, I don't want a 10k/hr merit party, that shit is frustrating as hell. And unless you can take the time to gear yourself properly that's what we're going to be stuck with. So it may very well be their money, but when their gimp-ness is affecting my gameplay then it becomes a problem.
But you're not stuck with them, and they don't have to affect your gameplay. You can always boot them. If they're the only people that are seeking, that begs the question: Where are all the well-geared players? (hint: They stick to within-LS parties)

We get to make illusion: skeleton/ghost/bat potions and a bread jar furnishing. Not amazing I know, and as to the latter, Kaolin isn't exactly flooding the AHs on my server.

Good players - hell, good people - don't laugh at someone who doesn't know any better, and *especially* don't laugh at people who don't have great gear yet but are trying to get it. That's the behavior of stuck-up jerks with an inflated idea of their own importance.
Those stuck-up jerks with an inflated idea of their own importance can't turn down a gimp when the chips are down though. Look for a party long enough, and apparently you'll invite just about anybody. There may be people who grossly neglect their gear, but if that was the case, it's because other players tolerate it and laugh it off after the party. It's so easy to say "Oh yeah, I have high standards" when you're on an online forum. Apparently harder to actually own up to those ideals when you are faced with the prospect of getting no EXP at all.

I'm not speaking from a high horse. I do it too. I can check a BLM and be like, "What is this BLM doing wearing a Philomath (spelling?) Stole at level 75?" (I see this so much in Whitegate in fact that I'm beginning to wonder if I'm always checking the same BLM, or are more BLMs beginning to do this) If I ended up in a manaburn party with them, odds are I wouldn't say anything about it. The benefit to playing in an event that lets you play on your own terms is that occasion never arises, and you are not permanantly stuck with them. Say what we will about gimps in Campaign. For every gimp, there is still at least one other person who is there who is actually geared quite well (especially the PLDs and DNCs it seems, from my observation) and is actually trying to perform with some level of efficiency at what they're doing, not just auto-attacking, else we wouldn't observe that there are people who seem to actually be Campaigning...competitively!

As for FFXI being an MMO, where you're supposed to play with others sometimes, not always by yourself, I go to Campaign precisely because I would rather not play alone sometimes, because soloing even on BST gets stale. I have the same complaints about the event as anybody else: Some healers won't heal/raise you (but most do!), some idiots pull the NM too early and we become the old broken Fords to Some-Yagudo the Rodulent's monster car scorpions, some people enfeeble the Gnats, some people are ingrateful to any help you provide to them (but most thank you for cures and buffs!).

Is there a loss in player skill and learning group dynamics? I don't know, but like Karinya said, people have been saying that as long as there have been colibri. Pick between that or going back to times when other dictated my gameplay, however, I think I can overlook a few more gimps running around.

Oh god, have I got campaign stories for you guys!

NMs and regular mobs inflicting zonal death upon all in Xarcabard (S).
People actually trying to tank mobs in campaign.
Paladins being snobs trying to tank and finding out that this little Blu over there actually CAN out tank their sorry asses. Please note I love Plds tanking, just don't be snobs about it otherwise I WILL show you who will have the mob's attention, and it isn't going to be you. It'll be Muffin! =^.^=
Obvious campaign newbs causing widespread death.
People STILL trying to hide with mobs!
                                ZOMG! People actually fight forts!

Xarcabard is my new favorite campaign spot. I love watching people get killed 3-4 times without campaign tags on just trying to exit the zone. Have an exp buffer before you go in, and I am only half joking when I say that. Those flying NMs are fricking cool and very deadly.

Not the best pics, but of the tail decoration that I mentioned:

Just got a little more to go before I can cook yellow curry, so I am quite looking forward to these curry buns.

I've gone ahead and bought the materials and had an Erlking Blade crafted, just need to find time to grab some peeps and go kill some NMs. It cost me a bit to do it now, but my reasoning is that the slayer weapons cost far more gil than I've spent so far, Beast Slayer isn't exactly likely, and I like the Erlking Blade and I feel like it! What more reason do I need? Can't wait to see what I get!

Also, I too have gone through 40-75 mostly on Campaign, but also mixed in with some FoV, Besieged, and 4-6 parties. My issue wasn't so much gimped gear or skills, it was knowing how much to contribute to a party. I've had enough parties, LS parties I will point out to tie in with Ketaru's post, to know now that the slow kill speeds and my running out of mp weren't because of me, it was because of the parties. Either I had to go far heavier with the spells then I would otherwise like to, and blow through my mp within the first few mobs, or I pace myself and fights took forever. Having had some good parties, and good LS parties, where I actually had Refresh, and even the ones where I didn't have Refresh, having other DD who pulled their weight really made a huge difference in how much mp I needed to use. So while I wasn't quite sure how to handle myself in a party 100% of the time, I am quite satisfied with how I performed with Blu so far.

I may be taking a bit of a break from Campaign. I don't quite like the new Union system nor do I like how people are behaving in Campaign at the moment. It feels like it's turned a nice fun way to do some stuff relatively solo into a massive MEMEMEMMMEEEE!!! fest. I've also seen a few LS all join a union and then try to muscle as many mobs as they can, which just results in a mini gangster turf war, which I dislike. Ironically most of the snobbish Plds that I mentioned above seemed to be part of the group trying to kill as many mobs as possible and deny other people a chance at the items. It's silly, they can't stop it, but I don't like being around when they are doing it. I don't want to have to even think about competing in something like Campaign.

So since I have my Erlking Blade, just need to get it augmented now, I'll take a break from Campaign and get my Pld, Sch, and Dnc up to 37, and maybe build up some more FoV tags or something with Blu.

But I do like the gear. The Ariesian Grip with the rest of my +hmp set nets me a total of +44ish hmp, which let's me get back to full mp REALLY fast. Sturm's Report means my MP Drainkisses are consistently in the 120+ range, with a few in the 70-80 range, no +blue magic gear on when casting it either, so I'm getting back alot more MP than I normally do. And the Patronus Ring's -12% physical damage in Campaign means that mobs I could readily handle before are much, much easier, and mobs I couldn't really handle before I can now handle without too much difficulty. I can't wait until I get the rest of my Campaign gearset and merits put together for Blu and see what happens

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.
