I'm starting to think that SE doesn't care about the community. Maybe they are trying to get everyone to quit with this fail update in preperation for FFXIV
I'm going to go ahead and jump on the pessimistic band wagon and agree that SE has alterior motives behind rolling out a shitty update like this. A small part of me hopes they redeem themselves somehow by ninja'ing something awesome in, but honestly if they were going to do that I imagine they would have told us already.

If the previews/job update sneak peaks we have gotten are pretty much it then this will be the absolute worst update since I started playing 3 1/2 years ago.

This is a full update teaser? I opened this thread looking for something of value. Maybe something great to get my interest again. But this?

Holy lol. That is all I can really say. None of this really affects gameplay at all. You know those "little treats" we always get on the day of the update? These would have fit perfectly fine right there! How stupid of them, no one cares about this kind of stuff, honestly.

Fixed. It was fail from the start four months ago, when they made the default such that you had to type in an obscure command just to hear the damn things, because they knew how annoying it could be.

It was added because of a freaking popularity contest, of course it's going to be crap.

And even if they did release one, it would probably 1) require you to be most of the way through the ToAU or WotG storyline to reach the BC, and 2) would require at least a full party of 75, if not a full alliance to defeat it. If you're lucky, there's a special trick that someone will figure out in a year or so where it can be soloed by PUP/DNC or some other obscure job combination.

Oh, and BLMQQ++. But if the WotG northlands areas have more BLM pet camps, then that'll at least be something.

I do hope they do have a huge surprise for FFXI. Other wise... Well.. they might lose another paying customer till FFXIV comes out.

It's funny how many people were depending on this one update to decide whether they'll quit or stay. Will this be the Summer That FFXIOnline died?!

no because I call BS on well over half the people QQ/rage quitting over this one update, like it was some magic "keep me playing" update, like all the others are ;p

Not really. At best though, I'm disappointed about how little there is actually discuss with this version update though. Normally I love to talk about what updates entail, but right my attention is diverted to:

...I haven't been caught up on South Park for a long time. Watched a few episodes on Wednesday when I was over at my cousin's place. One episode lampooned High School Musical which is always nice. But there was also this episode featuring this woman called "Wing". When I first saw tihs, I thought they were lampooning Susan Boyle. But not only, as it turns out, this episode predates Susan Boyle, but this "Wing Han Tsang" is for real! And the singing on the episode was genuine! Read her web site and saw her on YouTube. And I just couldn't stop marvelling at the strange mix of horror at how bizarre it all is, and admiration for how un-self conscious it all is.

My interests should be on the update!

Sadly I am in fact seeing this a lot, since it doesn't look like any BLM update is incoming at this point I think our shell is going to be losing our strongest BLM(and one of the 3 sackholders) to retirement.

I feel in the minority now just because since changing servers I've been enjoying my new LS and come into some really nice shinies, my desire to play more has actually increased, ironically at the time where my schedule is forcing me to cut back slightly.

Re: Version Update Sneak Peek (07/17/2009)

I really think it was inevitable. A lot of people were banned in January. That cut out a lot of great people (cheaters, but good players nonetheless, and deeply into endgame). Then you have the friends of those people, some who probably were fine without, others who lost interest in the game because their friends weren't there anymore.

You have the regular quitters, the ones whose time with the game has just run its course. You have the friends of those as well, some of which will hang on, some of which will also eventually lose interest in the game because it's just "not the same."

You then have the announcement of FFXIV. New shiny > old shiny, no matter what anyone says. I got so deeply immersed into WoW simply because it was new. People already expect that XI is going to decline, because let's face it, many are going to play XIV. It's kind of a mind game, isn't it? People assume everyone is going to leave for XIV, which in turn makes them also quit XI for XIV, and just perpetuates the cycle.

Coupled with the announcement of FFXIV, you then have a set of lackluster updates coming from SE. The huge WHM and RDM update happened before the announcement of XIV, after that announcement? Some NIN stuff, and some other WoTG stuff? Mostly "meh," especially compared with the previous update and the anticipation of XIV. Suddenly, XI starts to feel really really old and uninteresting.

Then you have the recent gardening bannings and the credit card bannings, which weren't nearly as broad as the salvage bannings, but still hit a wide range of people and caused a stir. And with these recent bannings, their poor customer service again comes to light, as it's nearly impossible to get a straight answer out of anyone in that company, and their chain of information is really lacking, coupled with the fact that there is also no appeals process for the wrongfully banned.

I think it was inevitable. I don't think SE is 100% killing their own game, but they are a huge part of it, the playerbase is getting disenchanted with it just because over time, it's to be expected. Many of us played for four, five, six, seven years. We had our fun, but there isn't any new sense of accomplishment anymore. We've done all there is to do at this point. And as more and more people begin to feel that way, we lose the friends that were close to us and with whom we enjoyed playing the game, and the face of the game changes. What was fun a few months ago becomes difficult to endure, because it's truly not the same without a friend you once shared it with, or a group of people, etc. And the shine starts to dull.

I think it's just reaching the end of its prime. Its glory days are over. It's an old car with 150,000 miles on it now, it needs a new battery, a brake adjustment, and a transmission overhaul, and at this point it costs more to fix it than it is just to get a new one. I think that's how people are starting to feel. MMOs are cyclical, and the cycle of FFXI seems to be coming to a close.

Except that other updates didn't come after the announcement of XIV, so it was indeed a "Let's see if you can keep me playing, SE" type of update for me.

The rage part is silly of course, but I was already done with the game for the most part, so XIV simply sealed the deal. And the only update that could change my mind and convince me to stay a for a little while longer would be a Campaign one which probably wont happen anyway.

So I'll probably take another break and just wait for them to finish WotG, then return to finish all the quests/missions and cancel for good.

I am glad SE finally grew some balls and banned all the people that needed to be banned, your not a good player if you cheated, at all, end of story. this update is ok, not amazing, but its a few things that will make NIN Tank and DD better, along with more customization with augments. Every update (and not just with this game, many others) alot of people rage quit and QQ over the stupidest things.

at first I was not going to come back to FFXI, because of XIV< but I decided that with all the things I could do solo, and with small groups, that passing by the time with XI was better then reading the same XIV info over and over and drooling.

there is FoV, salvage, assault, campaign, Nyzle island, and a few other things. All you can do with a single party or alone, choose something shut it and wait for FFXIV ;p

mm yeah I can understand that at least, for me finishing all the story is what made me come back, I still have to finish all the expansions stories, the only one I really "finished" was my rank missions for Windurst.
