It was a letdown the first time, I don't expect anything less this time around. Random augments fail. At least when I get stuff enchanted in WoW, I get to decide what to put on it.

And I still don't understand how anything that is a MINUS stat is considered an augment. DOES NOT COMPUTE. Augment means to increase. HOW IS A DECREASE SUPPOSED TO BE TAKEN AS AN INCREASE?! Seriously.

here we go with the "in WoW I can" crap again -.-

yes it is augment, but you also have to have balance, if you cant just have +s in everything, it makes stuff unbalanced.

        Re: Augmented Items Abound! (07/13/2009)

They need to change the wording then. Saying "augment" but meaning "subtraction" (for lack of a better word) is misleading. And the reason I brought up WoW is that I really think the random shit is stupid. There are plenty of "augments" to choose from in WoW, so you can get what you want on your hands, but you can't go overboard on one stat. Certain armor pieces will only have certain stats added, and will never have certain others. That creates balance on its own. You can't just overload your entire gearset with crazy amounts of STR, for example. You might have to get some attack power, some AGI, some hit rating, etc.

At least it makes sense. I'm not interested in spending time every day hoping to get an actual worthwhile augment. They want people to just accept and take any crap they throw at them, which is BS. They lied to us from the beginning, making it seem like we could choose augments. I'm not saying let us throw whatever the fuck we want on there, but give us some options - maybe not all of the best ones all at once, but out of a list of 40, give us 5 to choose from - maybe make people happy. I got some -resistance and like, +1 VIT crap once, who the hell finds that useful at all? I've seen people (with admittedly more patience than me) on BG go months before getting anything decent out of the FoV augments. This game has enough fucking timesinks, they need to throw us a goddamn bone.

There is plenty of balance already on pieces of gear I own. I don't need any more negative crap, that's not helping me at all. Get more mileage out of it (as SE so eloquently put it when they first introduced it)? All the way to the god damn NPC where I'll get 2k for it.

The system fails. Randomness like that fails. It's frustrating as hell, and yes, I know, "If you don't like it, don't do it," but that doesn't stop me from being able to bitch about it.

Actually, no. "Augment" means to alter or modify. Though, yes, it is really more used in situations wherein such modifications would normally be for the better.

All I want from this update is for SE to level DRG and WAR for me. I can only learn so much about autoattack.

SE does have WAY to many time Sinks. 1 week pop NM, 24 hour pop NMs, Low drop rate on NEEDEDitems (O-kotes, Fuma, Emporerhair Pin, Utsusemi: Ni, Ect.)

SE really does need to cut it out with the god damned time sinks, and random drop rates of stuff that people really need. There should be only so much of a time sink any game should have. Yea, it makes sense to have to raise your fame in order to get a good item from a NPC, insead of paying a few hundred K for an item, but atleast make it more fun instead of Trade 3 of X item to Y NPC.

I will still continue to play the game to talk to my friends, but I am starting to get tired of all the time sinks as well. I won't do FoV Auguments, nor will I do this one either because its random. Atleast give us a choice of a few auguments so we don't get a totally crappy item! I have seen some good ones (Str+2 on a Bone Earring +1, but -5 Fire. Str+2 on an Silver Earring, but -1 dex, and so on.), but I have also seen some VERY crappy items. (Bird whistle with +1 Str, but -2 Chr? WTF do they think they are trying to do there). I will not waste my time I could be using to have fun leveling and talking to friends trying to get 1 specific agument, NOR will I spend over 100k that took a few hours to obtain trying to get 1 agument. Give us choices, dont make it random, and stop putting in so many god damned time sinks!

You guys are bitching a lot about this.

I see WoTg-sized augments (hi2u weapon delay -7%. you know how great that is on DPS?) on an item of your choice.

It may suck. It may not. No reason to get derailed from talking about how much we need a BLM update.

Were bitching because we don't like the up date. Yes, Black Mage does NEED an update, but there are probably still more "update previews" coming. Just gotta wait until you either see the Black Mage update, or wait until later on.

Also, this thread isn't the one about the job updates, or the magic updates, if you want to talk about how badly Black Mage needs an update, go into the Job Aditions, updates thread, not the one that is dedicated to the Aguments update.

As for the -7% delay. The lower delay WILL help increase DPS damage, but it will also lower the amount of Tp you gain per hit which is what Dancers literally live off of. Same with Samurais. If they don't gain Tp at the rate they are supposed to, their Store Tp Traits will work even less than how they do now. Which will lower their amount of weapons skill. I tried it with the -3% delay grip. It was nice to help dish out damage faster, but it actually cut down the amount of total damage I was doing as my Samurai, as my weapon skills are the major damage that Samurai is about.

I think it's about time people stop expecting each and every update to contain what they wanted it to contain. Hasn't happened since the dawn of time, won't start now.

All the whining is getting pretty old. I just haven't been a douche about it because nobody tells me to go in and read the thread. But I honestly wish I could go one update thread without this sort of thing.

                    Also
The lower delay WILL help increase DPS damage, but it will also lower the amount of Tp you gain per hit which is what Dancers literally live off of.
The attack frequency goes up as the TP goes down. It evens out. Actually, no. It's better for a DNC to lose Delay. Low Delay weapons actually get TP FASTER that way, thanks to the formulas not being even at all Delays.

But with store Tp gear though, the exra Tp gain, wont be as high with a lower delay, so you will need more store Tp gain, to help increase the tp gained per hit though. Wont you?

Store TP is a %, it doesn't matter if you get 5 TP a swing, 8, 10, or 13, you get the same benefit from it. 10% more is 10% morer no matter what it's applied to.

Technically speaking it would concern people who have a specific amount of Store TP to shave off exactly one hit to 100 TP. But DNCs use TP gradually instead of in 100+ chunks, so it's of no consequence to them. They may be getting, say, 4% less TP per hit, but it's still taking them 4% less time to hit each time.

It's not like I expect them to delivery box me 1m/day and give me roses and chocolate ice cream. No. But I don't really enjoy this random shit, it's just not fun.

I realize people are tired of hearing bitching, but if they would stop doing stupid shit that seriously makes playing a chore, a lot less people would be quitting. I haven't spoken to anyone who has said that they enjoyed spending all their gil on items to attempt to get good augments, and failing miserably at getting one for months. That's not fun. This is a game, it's supposed to be fun. They are making it like work. They expect us to bend over, take it in the ass, and then suck their dicks when they're done. It's the same story with them every time.

I don't really care about the BLM update coming or not anymore, I doubt it will make me want to continue playing at this point. I'm tired of them just hanging things in front of us, making us think they'll be AWESOME, and everything falling so far from the tree that they dangled it from. Seriously, NO ONE expected augments to be 100% random. It's disappointing to open that box after an FoV elite and see something totally useless that just wasted your gil.

I used to love playing this game, but timesink after timesink after timesink sucked the fun away from it. Can't they just give us something fun and simple to do?

I think its just about them trying to keep people playing (and paying) for as long as possible, make them work for an item that takes for ever to obtain, so that they pay for a month of doing nothing but trying to get that one item.

Don't get me wrong Aks. I think the randomness is pretty stupid too. And my post wasn't directed at you either, though you probably knew that.

It's just that this is just one part of the update. I know it sucks, but, you know, new missions, job adjustments, new zones. I'm more indifferent to the parts of the update that suck than offended.

                                Re: Augmented Items Abound! (07/13/2009)

I really wanted to try to stick it out till the end of WoTG. But CK quit the game, and we were enjoying that storyline together. I don't even want to continue that mission line without him, it sounds silly but I just don't. They really haven't added anything that's really piqued my interest in the last few updates, it's been all about spending time with my friends. Now that most of them have moved on, it's just not the same, and SE hasn't made anything really super OMFGWOW that has made me want to stay.

There was so much I still wanted to do in the game. I wanted to finish my WAR for one (still 73, at least I have an Ebody I only put on one time ; ; ) I wanted to get Captain, I wanted to finish my Nyzul climb. Up until recently, I was working on Yagrush. (Slowly but surely, at least.) And then gradually I just stopped having any interest in logging in. The people left were okay, but not the people I enjoyed the most. Every little thing people started to say would get to me, and I'd snap. I didn't have my best friend to talk to anymore, which became really hard to deal with. Sometimes, Dynamis was bearable because of who I could /t and randomly bullshit with. Once he quit, I lost that, and there was just a void that never got filled. Another good friend of mine changed so much I couldn't even really talk to him anymore. And others I used to chat with just didn't play. In a game full of people, I began to feel incredibly lonely and isolated, and as someone who spends a lot of time by herself and really enjoys it, that's saying a lot.

Really what was keeping me in the game was my friends, and when I lost that, my motivation started to wane. I tried to hang on for the sake of the linkshell, but it just wasn't the same without the few people I really connected with. And now this update rolls around - the first update after all this quitting took place, I might add - and nothing excites me. I used to be really excited about everything. Even stuff I didn't think I'd care about, I was excited to at least try it out. There isn't anything like that for me anymore. Nothing SE has done lately has really made me go, "Oh, fuck yes, that is awesome." And they need to do stuff like that to keep people, otherwise, as their friends begin to quit/change servers/change/etc., people are going to lose their motivation to log in, same as I have. They need to do big amazing things that will make people think, "HOLY FUCKING CRAP." Level sync was like that, and if they were just now introducing it, I guarantee they would have gotten at least another month out of me.

The updates now are just less and less exciting. The add-ons were disappointing. There is always some small bit of win added in each update, but it's just not enough anymore. At this point, I don't think SE is actively trying to kill their game, but I don't think they are really capable of resurrecting it, and it is slowly dying, especially with the announcement of XIV. It sucks, but I really guess that it's to be expected.

This is probably an incredibly off-topic and rather personal post that doesn't belong here, but I really just don't think SE has it in them to hold my interest and the interest of many others anymore. I hope that the spark rekindles for XIV. I think it will, but if they keep making the same mistakes and keep their customer service as bad as it is, I don't expect XIV to survive very long. FFXI players have grown increasingly cynical, and for good reason. It sucks. But it stopped being fun.
