Celestial Nights 2009: Love Lights the World (06/19/2009)

Celestial Nights—the event honoring an age-old tale of a love eternal and true—will soon be here! In a reprise of last year's festivities, the royal couple of legend, Princess Amdina and Prince Yahiko, will return to the streets of all three nations. Come one, come all, to bear witness as a love thought forever lost is reclaimed!

*The Celestial Nights event is scheduled to commence on Friday, June 26 at 1:00 a.m. (PDT) and conclude on Wednesday, July 8 at 1:00 a.m. (PDT).

Once upon a time, the prince and princess of two rival nations on opposing sides of a great river fell in forbidden love. Neither the enmity between their countries nor the vast body of water that separated them could extinguish their feelings for one other. But their story would end prematurely, and in tragedy.

Thus was born the tradition of Celestial Nights—a time when the people of Vana'diel come together in the shared hope of rejoining the royal couple in their celestial realm.

Under the auspices of the Mog House Management Union (MHMU), the event has matured to become a perennial favorite among the citizens. But much to the moogles' dismay, the standing ovations scheduled for last year's event did not come to pass as anticipated. What was intended to be rivulets of tears streaming down the faces of toughened critics turned into a deluge of derision-laden disdain. Consequently, moogle reputation for competence in the field of entertainment production plummeted to a historic low.

The fault lies neither with the script nor stage direction, but the flawed casting process...or so the organizers claim. Determined to make up for last year's humiliating outcome, the MHMU has sanctioned the running of another open-air theater event in the same vein as the last.

How will this bold second attempt be received by critics and the public?
Will it avenge the failures of the past and restore critical acclaim to mooglekind?
Or will it prove to be a commercial flop, as most sequels are wont to do?
As has become tradition, the MHMU is yet again relying on the kindness of adventurers to see it through this latest of darkest hours!

Hi, here just to confirm I don't give a carp about those Orihime/Hikoboshi wannabes.

I wish SE did a proper tanabata matsuri instead.

But at least well get some fireworks and other more interesting stuff. I guess... /shrug

We don't have "proper" Easter or Christmas celebrations (at the very least, I don't wake up on X-mas day eager to log on and find something neat in my Delivery Box from Santa Claus), so why would SE do a proper tanabata?

            Why not?

I personally don't care about Easter (don't even know what that thing is about except that there's eggs involved in some way) and for Christmas the Jeuno music and miniskirt hume girl are more than enough for me.

You can wish they did more for those celebrations though. Except for a few crazy people I don't think anyone would blame you for wanting your favorite celebrations to be bigger and better just because other events aren't.

Edit > That reminds me, "Feast of Swords" needs an upgrade too.

Once upon a time there was a man named Jesus who died on a Thursday. Three days later he came back to life (sort of). That was Easter Sunday. All the stuff about the eggs and the rabbits are just the symbols for the new life that comes every Springtime, and those are the popular symbols usually used to commercialize the season (to egg-stremely absurd levels in FFXI . . . I know ).

Anyways, as far as better celebrations, you can even see acknowledgment in the lack of popularity for this event in the words S-E used. They claimed that it would be somehow different with the "casting" or whatnot, but honestly it seems it may just be as ho-hum as the Doll Festival and Feast of Swords were this year. =/ I guess we can't expect a presentation like Sunbreeze Festival or Starlight Celebration every month.

Actually, when Jesus died it probably wasn't called Easter - that was a syncretistic name applied when the early church plagiarized a pagan fertility ritual and combined it with the resurrection myth. (Which was pretty much standard issue already - compare Osiris, for example.)

Christmas coincides with Saturnalia/Sol Invictus/Yule for the same kind of reason. If you can't get the pagans to stop celebrating, convince them it's really a Christian holiday instead.

                Ditto Samhain/All Hallows' Eve.

Anyway, Japan is in the northern hemisphere too, so I'm going to guess that the coincidence with the summer solstice isn't a coincidence.

                  Ohh so that's easter.

I still rather have a Tanabata matsuri.

Well for festival of swords they could make a vana version of Miyamoto Musashi's travels where you have to travel by foot accross each contient and go to certain place to fight a one vs one event npc. And the rewards are melee gear for all classes that are samurai-ish. I think that would be a cool up date.

But I would like a Sanja Matsuri. There are three nations so it fits (even though I don't think Windy has a church/shrine in it does it?). It would be great it would be epic to have a march of npcs and player that carry floats and a mikoshi from nation to nation. And players fend of beastmen attacks to it.

But I never participated in this event so I guess I will give it a whirl.

Ah yes, how I miss Rabao during Sunbreeze. For whatever reason, it just feels better there. Guess I like fireworks at the beach.
