You do realize that you paid to increase your bag size already? People paid for their expansions and the content of the expansion is what led people to pay for it. Content like more Gobbie Bag quests to increase their bag size.

They probably can't do that if they want to keep prices low. And people would not pay the price that per-order would cost.

Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they ordered around 100,000 tokens (at least) for the first batch alone.

It is optional after all, and they will probably be able to resolve stolen account claims faster if the stealing rate goes down because of the token.

But they can't babysit us on this one, this token alone (along with the on-screen keyboard) rises the security to bank-site level.

It is the extra inventory space part that's making the whole token feature look like a stupid gimmick (when it really isn't), but that was just really poor judgement on SE's part.

Indirectly, though. We paid for a TON of content and along with that, some mog expansions. This is practically a direct purchase of inventory space, which I don't really condone. However, because I desperately need the space, I have to get the token.

Smart business move, yes, they will make a fucking fortune. But kinda sleazy imo.

Look at the good side...its not that expensive.

Should have it come with the "A crystalline Prophecy" expansion? Yes, but there's nothing we can do about it.

That's because those of us who understand how it works know how secure something like this is. I am speaking from experience as I use one for remoting into my work's network.

RSA SecureID. Look it up. Learn. Don't sound like an idiot.

Something you know, Something you have. Something you are. Essentially the three tenants of security. FFXI doesn't do biometrics so we're down to something you know (password) and something you have, now the SecureID token. On their own, neither will get you access to your account, you need both and you only have 30s before the SecureID token changes. There is no more secure and economical way to do it.

There is a reason this thing looks exactly like the one for WoW and RSA's reference token.

And you are indirectly buying mog space again since the main item in the offer is the security item and not the satchel.

I'm hoping they do this and add it on with the reward of completing the mini-expansion just so everyone who bought either thing can get their money's worth. =\

                        Blizzard Store

Blizzard manages to keep their version sold out without having bonus game play enhancements added.

I know I'm making a big deal over $10 but I am really disappointed that SE would force the majority of their player base to buy one even if they did not care in the slightest about extra account security. A silly little furniture or enchanted item would have been enough. They could of used this extra 80 slots and used it as a selling feature in one of their add on scenarios and still have a good amount of security keys sold. This is coming from someone who is very lax in their computer security, I don't run anti virus programs but don't get viruses because I am responsible about what I do with my computer on the internet. Can I still get keylogged? ...of course but I'm still at a lower risk and I'm not going to get paranoid over it.

This is a micro-transaction and does not have any place in subscription based MMORPGs. Mhurron if you don't like me calling it that do a quick google for micro-transaction; MMOs are all over the first page. when talking about MMOs or other games it has to deal with buying game play or equipment advantages with real money. If I'm miss using the term then a lot of other people are too.

That would defeat the purpose of doing something as dumb as including the satchel with the Token.

Because I think SE does indeed want to encourage players to use the token (as it really is the most effective tool they can use to prevent account stealing), but just did it in a very clumsy way. That, probably coupled with a lack of interest (see Neesan's post) from players made the inventory thing kinda like a last desperate move from SE to get these things to sell (since it's also likely the initial investment on these tokens/system runs in the millions)*

It's like having a vaccine for some really nasty disease (which cost quite some money to research), but finding out people simply don't want to bother with it.

So they have to bribe people to protect themselves (and get the investment back in the process.)

Fuck that, I would have tossed them a Hamilton for 80 inventory space ages ago were it offered, I'm chomping at the bit for it, and I can't comlplain about some added account security, my account is likely relatively valuable at this point and I'd certainly be pissed if it got stolen.

I say: offer this neat security token to those who want it, and give the 80 storage to all of us anyway. I understand the notion of offering extras and all, but I'm not likely to have ever spent the money to buy this token anyway. The only thing I'd want would be the 80 extra storage, and that, to me, is not worth another fee on top of the subscription I already pay.

Buy it if you want it, and enjoy the new space. Or don't buy it if you don't want it. Whatever.

But to the people who do buy it, you really have no right to act all high-and-mighty to those who choose not to buy it. And to those people who don't buy it (like myself), you really have no right to pretend you're any better than someone who does buy it. It's just a game after all.

I think what happened here is more of this:

S-E first debuts the security token deal and has them manufactured.

Interest seems medium-to-low, most feedback from various forums(yes they do check that shit) shows people aren't really interested in it.

S-E brainstorms on what they could do to make sure these hundreds of thousands of plastic keychains sell so they don't take a giant hit on the manufacture of them.

Tadaaaaa, 80 inventory space as a bonus.

Really I don't see the big deal anyways, a FFXI player who would actually need/really want the 80 inventory space complaining about $10 for it is just retarded, if paying $10 for video game content meant anything to those who keep whining about it they would be playing console games and not dumping $13+/month into FFXI.
