Re: Square Enix Security Token Release Date Details (03/31/2009)

Folks, this isn't horse armor, its a tool with an added bonus.

Could they have just added it to the game by some means? Sure, they could have done it with a lot of things. I'd love to have Mog Wands, Shields and Nomad Moogle caps, but I have to pay for a trip and pay to get a ticket to an event on the west coast to get it and be told everything I already learned from the Vana'fest in Japan.

Bottom line, I didn't want it that bad, so I didn't go for that. Not like I haven't been to California before anyway and I have lots of contacts who could tell me about the experience. They'll just have the mog stuff and I won't.

Either way you look at it, you're getting a bonus. Aeria games just gives you game stuff for your money, not real items, so that comparison is invalid.

Seriously, why can't you guys just look at the bonus as part of a bail to attract you people who keep calling them "hey my account is stolen".

I mean, they can now successfully cut the customer representative on call centre now because no one should lose their account to "hackers"

The limitations are real. Sort of. They're also an excuse, because frankly something like this is always going to fall into the "it's too much work to change it" rather than the "it's impossible" realm. But also because it's a way to say no by first limiting the frame of the query, so that the questioner is lead towards thinking about why a problem can't be solved in a particular way, rather than questioning why it isn't solved in another way.

The Mog Satchel as proposed in no way violates the limitations of the PS2 as we know them, because, as with Mog Safe, Storage, and Mog Locker, there are never more than 160 item slots open to manipulation at any given moment. You have inventory plus one of the other storage methods available. So when SE spoke of PS2 limitations, they were choosing to answer the small picture questions of "Why can't our Mog Safes be bigger?" and "Why is furniture storage capped at 80?" and not the big picture question of "Why don't we have more storage available to us?"

I think this shows that SE doesn't like to take responsibility for saying "no" to their customers. It's a lot easier to blame the specific lack of more safe expansion quests on the PS2 architecture than to tell them "We feel that you shouldn't have more space than this." Or even worse, "We have yet to seriously consider whether you should be allowed to have more space than this."

Also, has anyone here mentioned the fact that it's April 1st in Japan?

More info people found out by asking SE reps:
-For those who share accounts: Tokens can be linked so you and those who share your account recieve the same password on your token.
-If a token is broke or lost it will be unlinked from your account and a replacement is sent. (Wasn't clarified whether they charge you for replacement)

I'm surprised, with all the hardcore cynics on this site, that I'm the first one to say that RMT will hack the token in a week or two, making it *exactly* as useful as putting your sunscreen/contact lens formula/etc. in a plastic bag before getting on a plane. They might as well have called it the Security Theater Token.

(Even aside from the fact of how unlikely it is that someone who doesn't use windower, Outlook or IE or give their password to their best friend's cousin's former roommate is going to have their regular password compromised to begin with.)

And that's why you really are paying $10 for more inventory space. Not a mini-expansion with a mission storyline that has a gear reward at the end, but instant gratification in freaking huge doses.

Releasing it so close to *another* $10 for more content thing looks really bad, too. Did somebody have a bad profitability statement for the quarter?

(On the other hand, maybe the mog satchel *will* be earnable in-game - in the moogle mini-expansion, for example - and they're just not telling us that because (a) they want people to buy the token, and (b) they don't talk much about upcoming content.)

                        Fourth paragraph.

Additionally, players who purchase a security token will also receive the brand new in-game bonus, the “Mog Satchel.” The “Mog Satchel” provides additional inventory space and benefits all characters on the PlayOnline account(s).

It's not being "blind" to not read something that was never posted here. Nor was it made clear that there were in fact a lot more details, when usually SE announcements get posted here in full, including images.

It isn't that simple, these things work very well when you consider the cost/security ratio.

Mhurron probably has much better info on this for you.

Now, the token itself is easily broken once they have it physically in their hands, but unless they go to your home and steal it (which would mean you'd have much more important things to worry about rather than your XI account), the amount of samples they would require to get the algorithms right to find out what your passwords would be is large enough to give you plenty of time to find out you are being watched.

Of course it isn't fail-proof but it's one heck of a shield against account stealing if used properly, specially considering it's only 10 bucks.

PS > I still think SE screwed up adding that extra space along with this and that it should've been added when the Mog Locker was made available instead. But that's an entirely different issue.

I agree with most of the responses here about paying for the space. SE should do as they have done in the past and just give us a quest for the Mog Satchel and be done with it. I don't mind getting the security item for protection because I've had about 8 buds' accounts hacked. SE should just leave it as a per order basis for selling and manufacturing the security item.
