Re: Square Enix Security Token Release Date Details (03/31/2009)
I'm more of the mindset that they're giving a HUGE advantage to people who buy this thing. The Tidal Talisman was cute and all, but it didn't give those players a huge advantage, it gave them a minor one every three days. And that turned out not to be worth $50.
To not have access if you don't spend the money is really not fair. I know it's not that much money, but I live in a universe where money is very VERY tight, sometimes I have to come up with interesting solutions to be sure that my card has the money it takes to play this game. (Mostly because my check is RETARDEDLY slow in arriving here.) I'm just saying that really there very well may be people who can't afford it. Teenagers who use their parents' credit card to play the game, but don't feel right asking for an extra $10. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that asking my parents for money was a big no-no. And getting a job right now kinda sucks. So it could very well be about the money, as ridiculous as that sounds, which then makes it an unfair advantage.
The fact that it's only $10 alleviates that somewhat, but still, it's there. Some people will not be able to afford it. I'm not one of them.
However, I don't want to use this thing. It will be a HUGE pain in the ass. I d/c constantly due to the graphics issues on my laptop, some days I will d/c 7-8 times in 20 minutes. Do you know how annoying it is go through POL that many times a day, let alone have to find a new password every time? I hope that we are able to get our 80 slots and deactivate it if we so choose. Yes, I know. That's my risk. I'm okay with that.
It really does suck that I won't be able to use CK's account, either. I typically don't ask him first, because the only times I use it are when he's asleep or not home, and for him, the only time he uses mine is when I'm asleep or at class. Both of those times are not convenient to wake someone up and ask their new password. No, we don't live together. Perhaps some day we could, if the economy would stop sucking long enough for either of us to get a job, but for now we deal with not living together, which will make this more of a hassle. And to whoever said I should stop sharing my information with him ... why? I trust him more than I trust my parents.
I really do get what SE is trying to do here. They want us to use this thing. So they made something OMFG awesome that everyone in their right mind is going to want, but what they don't see is what a disadvantage that places anyone who chooses not to get it. PS2 and 360 users probably don't even need this thing, but they're gonna want the 80 spots ... how is that fair?
I mean seriously, I want the 80 inventory spots but I wasn't exactly planning to buy the token because of the reasons above. Now, I pretty much have to, and that kinda pisses me off a little.
