I would prefer not to be inconvenienced with entering a key every time I log in, neither my ffxi or wow accounts have been hacked yet, don't plan on receiving a key logger anytime soon >.>
You don't need to get it. You've lived without it until now so obviously you don't need it. But you should have it, and for all those that don't understand why, they provide an almost irresistible extra.

Also, you probably need to lookup what a micro-transaction is.

Re: Square Enix Security Token Release Date Details (03/31/2009)

I really hope there will be an alternate way to get the satchel, because otherwise, it is a lot like pearlsea says, they're just hitting everyone over the head with a giant club that says "Pay $10 for a cheap piece of plastic most people probably don't need!"

Maybe they're doing it to save money by cutting down the number of GM calls they get about hacked accounts. XD

Seriously, though, this is WAY beyond the in-game usefulness of any of the other pieces of merchandise like tidal talisman or the fan fest goodies. To the point where it does feel like you're paying for the satchel and getting the token for free, rather than the other way around.

Are they planning to merge with Aeria next?

Depending on how good it is, the Security Token might turn out to be the better half of the deal

            QQ more Mhurron.

You know damn well that they can make promotions for security tools that don't require horribly unbalanced and unfair changes. It's not a matter of SE caring about us that much.

I mean, holy fuck, in a lot of ways it would be more balanced to just say "buy one of these and we'll change a job of your choosing to 75 for one character". Horribly broken, but at least it doesn't give anyone a huge and uncompensatable advantage over someone else who chooses not to buy the token..

Any future upgrades for your Mog House will automatically update the satchel... at least this is what I read.
Ah. I didn't have time to read anything but the post here, so I didn't see that. Thanks! You have put my wallet at ease.

If all we are talking about is bag space in this thread its fairy obvious which is the product and which is the bonus, at least to me.

Also more interesting that people might be overlooking is the SE account. Looks like their new online platform replacing the disliked and outdated playonline.

Nice, I missed that part. I was wondering what the "Up to 80 slots" was based on. I most definently gotta finish my last gobbie bags now. I wouldn't be surprised if they immediately sold out lol.

They should make it mandatory and refuse to assist anyone who looses an account after this goes live. They can't do that or stupid people like yourself begin whining about them being money-gurbbers.

So for all the idiots that think they're immune to malware and think they don't need this they have to bundle it with an irresistible bonus. Then they can begin to refuse to assist those who bought it and don't use it. Again, you show you're too stupid to understand that.

Securing an account is a side effect of them trying to save money by not spending time restoring characters.

And pearlsea, you should read that wikipedia article again. Right near the top where it actually defines micropayments as opposed to what you quoted as to how they are used:

"Micropayments are means for transferring very small amounts of money, in situations where collecting such small amounts of money with the usual payment systems is impractical, or very expensive, in terms of the amount of money being collected. "Micropayment" originally meant 1/1000th of a US dollar[1][2], meaning a payment system that could efficiently handle payments at least as small as a mill, but now is often defined to mean payments too small to be affordably processed by credit card or other electronic transaction processing mechanism."

Now maybe you've never worked with credit card processing, but $10 is neither:
                      • a very small amounts of money
                      • a situation where collecting such small amounts of money with the usual payment systems is impractical
                      • or very expensive
                      • too small to be affordably processed by credit card

$10 is not a micropayment. It's buying a security token, and is inline with the cost of other devices for similar services.

As an PS2 user only, the chance of keyloggers or spyware is kind of low. So for me, having to use this every time I log in would be more of an annoyance (and something to lose) than anything else.

So you get more item space, but nobody has asked yet: For how many characters? Do you just get one code that works for one character, or does it apply to your mules too? After all, this thing would be specifically linked to one account, and an account can have multiple characters.

It is stated explicitly that all characters tied to the POL account automatically get the Satchel.

I probably missed it but I don't see that anywhere in the OP unless it was listed in that "More Details." link that I can't access at work.

Actually, you know what? I'd approve of that completely. "Buy the token, or you get no assistance with account theft (after a grace period)". Gets people to buy the token, as insurance if nothing else; drastically cuts down their operating costs; and doesn't put a huge in game advantage to buying something.

There's a REALLY FUCKING LARGE difference between making something mandatory for anyone who might ever have their account stolen and making something mandatory for LITERALLY DOUBLING IN GAME CAPACITY IN A SYSTEM WHICH HAS ALWAYS PROVIDED HARSH LIMITS AND WHICH INTERACTS WITH GAMEPLAY IN A VERY SIGNIFICANT WAY. You might be too stupid to understand that difference, but this isn't a question of requiring users to be secure-- it's a question of limiting huge in game upgrades to people who give them more money. It's just as asinine as giving you gil when you subscribe to AV software, or only letting you access COP areas if you have an SE approved firewall. It's horribly unbalanced and destabilizing at best, and a slippery slope to paying for updates (not expansions. updates. WHMs, do you want to pay to be able to use your new spells?) at worst.

I'm all for promoting the security token. I think it's a great service, and will save a lot of people a lot of time and money. Marketing it by linking it to doubled inventory space? That's horrible.

I was going to buy it anyway so this is like good news +1. Really, the key generator alone was worth the 10 bucks without any incentive.

Although I have to say the incentive was handled very poorly. There are more subtle ways to give these kinds of incentives without cheapening the value of the "main" product.

Anyway, I just hope I can get it fast enough, damn SE and their policy of not selling to MX directly.
