    The only difference would probably be 1-2 points so that may not be the best alternative. I'll be glad when we get some more info on this. SE always gives us these tidbits and we go crazy. (I'm looking at you Chocobo Racing.)

      I hope you're right, but unless things have changed greatly since I quit, there were plenty of+1 items that sold for MUCH more though they only offered a couple points more than their NQ counterpart.

          We'll have to wait and see about whether or not you can upgrade something like a hauby. I could certainly see HQs and R/E gear being blocked out, but if I could augment my Hauby or Dusk Gloves I most certainly would.

          Preventing any trades of Augmented gear prevents a damage to the crafting markets, which in turn preserves the value of an item and decreases competition with crafted gear that could be resold.

            Best part is I still have my Gambison set (which I used to equip 24/7 unless I was fighting T+, oh such a long time ago) on one of my mules.

            I wonder how the bonuses will scale down depending on the item's lvl.

              My Guess:

              Only usable on non-HQ gear that have no inate bonuses. ie-Gambison, Scale Mail, etc
              Will require rare/ex drops or synthed items
              Will require gil
              Will involve trading the rare/ex item along with the gear and the gil to a NPC that specializes in altering gear

              Stat bonus will be based on Rare/Ex item used - Harder to obtain rare/ex item = higher stat bonuses.
              Gear will have a limit set on bonus, based on gear level.

              Thats how I see it all working, I like the idea! It would be nice to finaly wear an entire set, ie scale mail, and have bonuses on each piece!

                I'd be very happy if it involved BC fights against soloable mobs (at least for RDM ) and quests like that. But I seriously doubt that would be the case, 'cause SE doesn't want me to go back to the game.

                  Hopefully this will help crafters out and create some demand for historically/otherwise useless items.

                    I don't gain any attachments to gear I buy on the AH for heading to the dunes for a few hours. Maybe if it was signed ... though knowing SE you won't be able to have these items signed.

                    Could be cool for newer players, don't really see it changing anything for higher level people. Oh well, I can get my mules some personal shinies.

                      Assuming you can augment higher level items with stat bonuses like SH and Hauberk, I don't see them making it possible to effect the NQ but not the HQ. Every high level crafter in the game would be screaming bloody murder. NQ's are already made at a loss, with all profit coming from the rare HQ. If they made the HQ irrelevant there would be no point in crafting them at all.

                        Oh god what if some of the new FoV drops are augmentable?

                        And it'd be cool if H.Q. gear gets a 3rd augment. Well, at least now all those previously "cheap" pieces of "useless" armor may in fact become usable now. I'm more curious as to what the conditions will be for augmenting such as the cost, what buffs are available and what types of buffs (as well as the requirements for said buffs; i.e. can you buff a higher level gear better than a lower one? are some buffs level based?)

                          actually, it'd be nice if the +1 was concrete, and the NQ was adjustable. Would help to even out the prices some and make them more reasonable, keep the HQ as something which is always nice, and the NQ as something which can be improved, but would be troublesome.

                            You know, if there were any doubts before about the FoV Equipment-trade NMs helping crafters to put their gears back on to circulation . . .

                            They were brutally mootinated by the awesomeness that is Augmenting.

My entire adventuring career I kept every single piece of equipment I ever owned until I could craft them myself (any doubles I may have acquired were put on the AH). Thus, I have been keeping myself well prepared for this day when it came, and even more thusly, I, Yellow Mage, have the upper hand!

                              A bit late to the thread here, but on first blush this looks cool as hell. I hope it's moderately accessible; they seem to be wooing casual players a bit more lately, which is nice, since I seem to be one.

                              My only concern is hoping that the new gobbie bag quests are a bit more expansive than just 10 more slots. 'Cause if you take this far enough, one set of beetle armor just became at least two.

                                How about no. The less of a forced time sink this is, the better.

                                I doubt high-end things like Haub will be augmentable; and even if they were, I sure as hell wouldn't want to make my Haub unsellable for a stat boost that is going to be, quite frankly, completely underwhelming compared to what the Haubergeon already provides.

                                Hopefully they'll give some real potential to NQ no-stat gear though. There's plenty of damned cool pieces of gear that just don't get to see the light of day because they do nothing, or almost nothing. Mythril and Darksteel Cuirass sets come to mind.

                                Hopefully this'll make all those purple PLDs less gimp as well. That was a joke - ha ha, fat chance. They'd just blow their augments on even more +VIT.
