Re: Let There Be More Fields of Valor and Treasure Caskets! (03/06/2009)

Accessing these elite training regimes requires key items which can be obtained in exchange for tabs, and your choice of gil, beastmen's seals, or a piece of equipment. Rewards granted upon completion of an objective will vary depending on the combination of the above. For example, adventurers who trade gil will be handsomely rewarded in kind, while beastmen's seals will garner you an amount of experience points corresponding to the quantity traded. Those who dare to relinquish equipment, on the other hand, can expect delightful rewards the likes of which have never been seen before on Vana'diel!
As an added bonus, no experience penalties will be imposed even if your best effort at fulfilling an objective results in a humiliating defeat at the hands of your quarry. So go on, get out there and prove your worth and valor!
My god, does this mean spawnable NMs?

Does this mean Tom Tit Tat and Buburimboo just became a multiple camper targets? Or are these popped NMs separate from the normal spawned NMs in the area?

My guess is that the NMs will be new, popped fights and have nothing to do with normal world spawn NMs. Take a predetermined, appropriate level crafted piece of gear, trade to book, pop NM, and hope it drops your item. Or at least that's how I see this working. It would be a good way to help crafters if they could skill up on a "consumable" piece of gear instead of most crafts having to rely on non-selling armors.

Think ZNM: new NMs, but poppable with key items you gotta work for.

What I'm interested in is the new equipment from both FoV and the new Treasure Caskets. SE introduced some nice gear for their respective levels in the first sets, and the Gothic set looks pretty sweet. I'm hoping they put in more, and that the other pieces are a bit higher level (to correspond to the new caskets locations). A full set of Gothic would give +20 Attack and Ranged Attack, perhaps +3 to VIT, AGI, and probably CHA, +10 Enmity (at least), and lots more Ice Spikes. Would make a great mid-level tanking set, and looks pretty sweet. Of course, that's just speculation based on two pieces of the set that we have so far (the set bonus part is rather easy to predict, the rest would be close and logical).

I'm also interested in what they think is an equal trade in terms of gear for these NMs. Hopefully giving up expensive or R/EX items aren't a part of the deal, and if they are, the drops better be hella worth it.

Maybe they'll do something along the lines of what they did with PCC/Pin/Leaping Boots; Make an item that's basically the same, have the traditional version of the mob drop one, and a spawnable version of the mob drop the other.

I would hope that SE would know that NM's are a pain in the arse for players already, and wouldn't implement something that would create more enmity among camping parties.

                    ... I would hope

I imagine that this will either make getting things like Bounding boots a whole hell of a lot easier, OR create some new items to rival the ol' standards.

Probably something completely new... I don't see them messing around with the old NMs...

                        Then again who knows.

Seems pretty sweet. If I had time to play FFXI still I would probably come back with all the improvements they've been making.

Okay, anyone else find it odd they made Beastmen Seals used for EXP bonus? I wonder what the gear requirements will be like, or if you can just trade any junky old armor... and no option for Kindred despite adding Zilart areas, interesting.

It's doubtful these will have anything to do with the "ol' standards" in terms of NMs. These will probably be "better-then-nothing" or side-grades to some sorta-okay items at best, like most of the Caskette items.

                                WIN.

Fields of Valor is fun, treasure caskets are, too! This is pretty awesome.
