Pandemonium Warden, one of the deadliest creatures to ever threaten Vana'diel, has been defeated for the first time ever! The Warden had remained undefeated since his introduction along with the new Aht Urhgan Notorious Monsters in June 2008. Just over five months ago, Final Fantasy XI finally got the attention that its playerbase has been clamoring for since as long as they can remember. Unfortunately, that attention came in the form of laughter from the gaming community that the above mentioned playerbase would subject itself to a game containing a mob that couldn't be killed after 18 hours of effort. The Warden had yet to be successfully killed, so while this was no doubt a valiant effort, it was also a pioneering one and therefore surely not the original intended battle that it eventually turned into.

Nevertheless, the article surged across the Internet and resulted in an impromptu patch that changed the Pandemonium Warden, causing it to despawn if not defeated within two hours.

Located in the depths of the Aydeewa Subterrane, this frightening beast takes on 10 different forms. Upon using his special move Hellsnap, the Pandemonium Warden will then change into one of the following forms: Battleclad Chariot, Long-Bowed Chariot, Long-Armed Chariot, Armored Chariot, Cerberus, Hydra, Khimaira, Gulool Ja Ja, Medusa, and Gurfurlur the Menacing. The lamps that accompany the Warden will change into different mobs, depending what form he changes into.

The Warden will return to his original Dvergr form and players must fight him until he uses Hellsnap again, at which point he will take on another form. All 10 forms, as well as his original Dvergr form (who uses Astral Flow and calls all avatars), must be slain in order for him to be defeated.

More recently, the infamous Dvergr was finally slain by the linkshell Apathy on Remora , reportedly with only five minutes left on the clock. Congratulations to the Pandemonium Quellers of Apathy from the entire Allakhazam team!

Don't automatically assume that SE approves of the way it was killed, does Alla mention the logout thing? SE got the "info" from Alla after all.

After FanFest I had the chance to have one of my occasional talks with the head of FFXI Vault over on IGN. She pops her head in the LBR LS and site every now and again.

She had an interesting insight about being at the event. She commented how people from IGN, Alla, PFA and LBR were palling around the whole event while the people from BG kept to their own circle. Then we talked about how BG - the community, not the LS of forum staff - seems to insist they should get to approve everything in the community. Put their stamp of approval on it, so to speak.

Alla is admittedly the same, but you have to face the reality that Alla, unlike most other FFXI community sites, is also one of the biggest MMO forums out there. Its natural for SE to pay attention to it like any other. SE does pay attention to the other community sites as well - they just recognized JP Button and He Said/She Said the other week on POL and added them to the list of community links.

So just because SE got the information from Alla doesn't make Alla a less credible source. The discussion I had with the IGN rep pretty much changed how I looked at BG. I don't fault the LS or staff there for how things go down, but its pretty clear to me why they don't get the acknowledgment from SE that other sites do - their community tears down rather than builds up, which is the antithesis of what they intended to be.

Yes, the news broke from BG, really. But why post news from the most cynical place in our community when you could do it on a more popular site?

I thought SE doesn't give BG the "acknowledgment that other sites do" because the BG forums refuse to remove the content that SE disapproves of. I.E. The pron threads, the gimp thread, the open discussion of 3rd pt tools and windower (with stickied links to some apps) and so forth. I mean, it's not like SE doesn't like BG, wasn't Sundi himself wearing a BG hat at the fanfest? It's just because the site isn't "family friendly" in regards to what is and isn't allowed to be posted that keeps it from being a premiere site.

I doubt SE cares about the scruples of the site owners and posters, especially seeing as the FF Wiki and Alla owners both "sold out" the community to make quick bucks.

Yes SE is very particular about the content of the website. There are guidelines to follow to be an official website and they include not having in depth threads about 3rd party tools (particularly with links) and keeping things PG. But I'm sure they also take into consideration the 'attitude' of the website at some point also. Alla fits the bill when you top it off with web traffic, so congrats to them. I'm not a big fan of their forums but I'd rather post there than over at BG.

As for the topic of the thread, finally a positive reaction to the defeat. They obviously don't give a flying fart about how it was killed, just that it was. And of course they know how it was done, you think that they only read the forums over at Alla? They also had GMs watching the kill I'm sure.

Interestingly enough, this news does not appear on the Japanese POL site. Understandably they can't like to Alla since it's in English, but if this is such a big occasion, shouldn't it be elsewhere too? Maybe people on 2ch haven't picked up on it or don't care about it.
