just looking at BG, even the folks who weren't banned or aren't involved come out as idiots...

That's why I refuse to post there. Only posts I dropped were the ones concerning certain idiots on Cerberus. I've never felt the need to post beyond that. I like my IQ, thanks.

So, I found out this morning that someone who I really looked up to in the FFXI community was hit with the banhammer. I'm kinda shocked, because I never thought this person would be the type to do something so stupid as to dupe items. On one hand I want to just feel bad for them, and comfort them, but at the same time, I'm furious at them. This person had fantastic gear, and a great linkshell. They had (from my perspective) no reason to do something so stupid, and now their character is gone. I'm still firmly in the camp that the people who got banned got exactly what they deserved, but it does take a bit of the fun out of it to realize that even people you thought were trustworthy and good players you can't trust.

Ya, that does suck. Someone I started doing things with recently and respected very much really let me down and I'm so disappointed. It totally sucks when you loose respect in someone and its even worse when its something like this where you are fighting with your inner morals.

This is the only thing from all this that annoys me. Endgame has it's share of assholes and elitists but they're a lot rarer than everyone makes it seem.

Well your server must be a lot better than mine. The majority of people in endgame on mine are elitest. Oh they can be very nice people on other subjects but when it comes to the game they stick their nose high in the air and look down on you.

At this point I'm just waiting to see what the final tallies look like on Monday. Supposedly, CSRs are confirming today that a good chunk of the 'permanent bans' are just temporary afterall. If I had been working the call center yesterday I would have just told everyone it was permanent to get them off the phone and get to the next call.

A lot of people call up and say "I was just banned, can you tell me if it's permanent or not?" and when the operator hears the word "Banned" that, to them, always means permanent. Even people who don't even give their info while asking that question will always be told "permanent" because that's what banned means. We'll probably see a lot of these "perma-banned" people coming back in a few days. And for many of them, those who understand why they'd be suspended for doing it once or twice, it will be a good thing.

It's ok to make fun of the asshats who not only exploited excessively, but bragged about doing so. But there's a few "not-so-bad" ones who would have easily learned their lesson from a simple suspension. And I'm sure SE knows that as well.

You must have missed the memo. According to these forums there is no grey area. It's all black and white, everyone that used it even once, knowingly or unknowingly deserves to be banned forever and ever. Yet the holier than thou elitism is all contained to BG's forums. That never happens here.

Do I feel the slightest hint of sadness for people like Map, Merona or Blackhatchey? Absolutely not. We knew how what those guys were really about, everyone on Titan did - they got what was coming to them. Do I feel for Xerlic? A little, I have a feeling he was a bit more in the case of guilt by association. In fact, Xerlic owned up so much better and honestly than the others from Titan did that it gets him some respect.

Someone like Map telling the rest of us "you would of done the same" or "I feel vindicated/liberated" - shit, that just shows us how obsessed and hypocritical these people are. That is the fuckwittery BG is getting known for, moreso than it being a knowledge base.

But that's what happens when you have slack moderation, inmates end up running the asylum and everyone ends up getting painted with the same brush.
