    yup. campaign is broken.

I also wouldn't suggest doing Lamia 13 any time soon. The npcs aren't dispelling.

18 hours woulda been the minimum for these two. Other people went againt PW for 20+ hours and didn't get half way through his forms. And people have gone 30 on AV apparently. As said before, this just made two of the hardest mobs in game and turned them into pretty much nothings.

Wow, went with CK's ls to help out with JoL/AV and we got owned, but it sure was fun. Wasn't really planning to be able to win but hell, I had nothing better to do lol.

AV just has less hp so far... still seems to kill at will

Oh and it's 2 hours from JoL pop, not AV pop. JoL seems laughable now at least.

You can't lump together marathons and sprints for comparison though, they are both difficult in their own ways and require completely different approaches in both execution and preparation.

That being said, I think 4-6 hour fight would've been better (maybe).

Is a marathon harder than a sprint? Can you take the best marathon runner in the world, and expect them to be competitive in the 100 yard dash? After all, if a marathon was harder than a sprint, then doing a sprinting event should be trivial for a marathon runner, right?

And, regarding of XP loss in campaign, this:

                  Sep. 8, 2008 21:00 [PDT]
                  From: FINAL FANTASY XI

                  Current Known Issue (Sep. 8)
Since the implementation of the latest version update on Sep. 8, 2008, we have confirmed the following issue. Investigation and recovery work is currently underway.

                  - Participants of Campaign Battle with Allied Tags would lose experience points if they become KO'd after recovering from KO'd status.

*The experience loss can be prevented by receiving another Allied Tag after the initial KO.

                  We apologize for the inconvenience.
That would explain why some peeps losed xp and some didn't.

And to answer my own question it leans much more towards "You are better off naked".

Tested some gear and the main thing you notice is if your gear has any sensitive negative stats you might as well skip it instead.

                    Errant Hpl.

                    INT/MND/CHR +10 STR/DEX/VIT/AGI -7 Def40 something hMP +5

                    At lvl 30 turns into:

                    INT/MND/CHR +0 STR/DEX/VIT/AGI -7 Def +12 hMP +0

                    And another example of randomness:

                    Lvl 54(?) Jester's Cape +1

                    Def 6 CHR +10

                    Turns (@ lvl30) into:

                    Def 2 CHR +0

And it seems like a very random thing when it comes to what stats will be negated and which will be only downgraded. Equipament with +HP might not get affected at all by lvl sync, and then lower lvl gear with similar +HP amounts might get said +HP completely negated.

So it isn't a proportional downgrade but from what it looks like it changes on an item by item basis. Way more testing is required but it looks like I can forget about getting rid of any low lvl gear. In fact I'm going to need even more gear now that chances of partying at lower lvls have skyrovcketed.

Synching to 19 with a friend of my brothers, what little I bothered to test, my Electrum Rings dropped to MP+15, I'm not even sure if the hidden effect on the Carby Mitts was even working at all (makes sense seeing as they're lvl 20 but it left them on), and pretty much any stat boost off my gear seemed non-existent. Things like Avatar Acc+ and so on I don't have a real way to measure, but it didn't seem to be doing jack.

I thought the idea was to promote leveling with your friends and giving the low/mid levels a pick-me-up. Having to keep assloads of gear was one reason some people never bothered, and if the stats are so atrocious on the downgrades, I don't see Level Sync being that interesting of a toy for long.

It's not just AV though. It's AV + JoL, which makes it pretty rough. The JoL fight tonight was really pretty quick but we just didn't have enough time to even figure out the puzzle that is AV.

We got it down to like 82 I think before it Bene'd.

I say "we" like I was in the ally. But I was outside healing which is pretty important too.

                          • Re: ≪Sep. 9, 2008 (JST) Update Details≫

If people were expecting awesome stats on thier high level gear at sub-30 levels, I think they didn't really read the update information well. Seems like everything is scaled with respect to its actual level when you're level synced.

SE said from the start that gear with godly stats would not be better than HQ gears or NM gear of the similar level. They also said that bonus stats like Haste or Evasion wouldn't be scaled down, but nulled completely.

As a way of testing this, rather than level syncing, I just ran out to Riverne with my 75 SCH. Without going into too many gear details, I just maxed my MND build to +49 going in, most of this being gear from the 50s to the 70s.

                            50 cap Zone - 19 MND, Lost 30 MND.
40 cap Zone - 13 MND, so minus 36 MND from my gear set at 75.

Now, I'll just go in with Full AF, Tamas, Penitent's, etc. Nothing I have is greater than level 60 this time around, so I left Rainbow Cape, Errant and all that out.

MND going in is now +25

50 cap zone - 18 MND, so 7 MND lost
40 cap zone - 12 MND, so now about half of what I had going in.

Taking that I was using errant and SCH AF into account, the Errant lost out more than the AF did, the AF and gear set I had would almost be comprable to wearing Seer's gear in the same situation.

So that would mean using Seer's gear in before its actual level would be comprable to most low level mage gears you'd use in the dunes or earlier. So I could use Seer's if I level synced before the 30s and AF would be as practical as Seers and actually grow to be better than Seer's over time, reaching its full potential at the armor's actual level, obviously.

So the larger difference between levels you go in referance to the actual gear level, the bigger hit that piece of gear is going to take. Errant has pretty amazing stats, so it doesn't suprise me that its completely nullified by level 30.

You don't have to keep loads of gear for every ten levels to get this to work, just a good gear set at 30 to work the lower levels, AF would work fine for 40s, 50 and 60 depending on job and then high level gear would scale pretty well from 75 on down to 60, it seems.

                            I really need to test and see if jug pets can be synced as well, but I have to go to work now ; ;

I'm guessing the 2 hour time limit is pretty much going to make PW an unsolved riddle until SE comes right out and tells us how to beat him. Two hours just doesn't seem like a lot of time to do any experimenting. At least with AV, taking a shot at him is like a bonus after taking down JoL. Meanwhile, you have to go out of your way to pop PW and take a shot at him.
