    Re: All Worlds Maintenance (Sep. 8)

    RDM doesn't get several Sword or Dagger WS so I doubt that would really be a problem.
    I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

    HTTP Error 418 - I'm A Teapot - The resulting entity body MAY be short and stout.

      RDM doesn't get EX or SP WS, and Spirit Taker is neither. Making Spirit Taker an SP skill for 9 jobs just so RDM can have Staff skill seems kind of silly, doubly so when you consider it's not even the kind of melee update they want.

        If rdms get at least a B- in staff, its a melee update I'll be happy with. rdm/sam go go go!

          No sillier then giving a WS that returns MP to jobs that don't natively have MP.

          RDM is a mage that becomes a drooling idiot when the idea comes into their head to swing the staff they have plastered to their back from 51 on. Also, I don't really care what others want, it just seems odd to be a mage with no ability to swing a staff.

            Every character has the capability to have MP if they sub the right thing. DRG/Mage is common and MNK, well, who the hell cares. If they want to sub /BLU or /RDM or /WHM, well, why not.

            A lot of jobs can equip Archery and H2H and have absolutely no skill in them. Oh yeah, let's not forget DRKs getting Size 3 (the best kind of shield in the game) shields but having absolutely no shield skill.

              Rdm already gets archery to 210. Possibly not useless if you rapid fire elemental arrows off a lamian kaman or something else low delay.

                Yeah, it's not entirely useless. Apple Pie was quite fond of RDM/RNG in Ballista, using Sidewinder.

                I was quite fond of RDM/RNG soloing worms in the lower levels.

                  Compared to what? We can already Energy Steal things with manapools (which, I've recently learned, includes *all* Campaign beastmen, not just ones from MP-using jobs); I don't see that it makes us noticeably more unstoppable than we are already, even when we can pick our targets. Heck, we can sub SCH, energy steal it *and* DA Aspir it with B skill. So what? It's already pretty easy to keep on all the enfeebles you need and keep up your personal buffs with just Refresh, a refresh buff (sanction/sigil) and maybe one piece of refresh gear. Or even less than that if you need to.

                  You don't need Spirit Taker to solo Genbu (in fact, it wouldn't help: not only would you have to get close, he also has crazy DEF and you'd get squat). Or Ose. Or any of the other things RDM are famous/notorious for being able to solo. You don't melee at all in most of those fights, so whatever skill you had or didn't have with a weapon wouldn't matter.

                  All you can really do with more MP in most reasonably meleeable RDM situations is nuke more[1], which only partly makes up for the subpar weapon you had to wield to be able to use an MP-gaining WS. When it comes to subpar weapons, I think staves even have daggers beat. *And* they take away your shield (probably Genbu's, which stacks nicely with Phalanx even when you don't block), which leads to more time recasting stoneskin and/or taking actual damage and then curing it.

                  Skill or no skill, nobody's going to get anywhere trying to Spirit Taker with an elemental staff. They have a DMG of 30 (35 for HQ). You need a real DMG staff to ST effectively, and RDM can't use most of them (and the ones they *can* use don't provide the bonuses that are the reason RDM use staves in the first place).

                  P.S. *BLU* would be an unstoppable force if they could Spirit Taker decently (perhaps even with the necessity of wielding a staff - certainly there's a darn good reason SE doesn't let them anywhere near Energy Steal/Drain). They're professionals at turning their MP into dead mobs but are limited in how much MP they can generate on their own (even on targets susceptible to their several aspir-like spells). RDM are the reverse: lots of MP, but poor at speeding up a fight with it.

                  [1] Furthermore, this is pretty much true by definition. If there were a really good use for more MP in the situation you were in, you'd be exhorted to get out of melee, put on your dark staff and sit any time you weren't casting. Correctly, too, if the noncasting could reasonably be expected to continue for long enough. It's the fact that more MP don't help that much in some situations that leaves you free to melee rather than sitting for more MP that... don't help that much.

                    Re: All Worlds Maintenance (Sep. 8)

                    I'd happily trade bow and staff skill for:

                    Shield Skill C+ (while using Bucklers, D with any other shield or something.)
                    Parrying Skill B-
                    Sword/Dagger Skill B+

                    We even freaking get Aramis' Rapier damnit, there's no reason for RDM to have such crappy parrying skill.

                    PS > lolPOLErrors, I'll just skip the update till tomorrow.

                      You fail. Bucklers are the worst kind of Shield in the game, I'd gladly keep my F in those.

                      You also fail for trading Bow skill. I likes me my bow. -.-; Trade Throwing or something. (Apologies in advance to RDMs who like their Darts for some reason, or actually have and occasionally use an Aureole.)

                        So you'd rather have F skill in all shields than C+ in bucklers and D with other types? ...ok. <_<;

                        And I wonder what exactly do you use a bow for.

                          I've seen MNK/WHM used for Chi Blast. Hop into the alliance, fire it off, and drop again. For that matter, I had one in the tank PT on Kirin once, and asked them to keep an eye on the kiters in case erase was needed, so I could rest up MP...

                            Wrong. I'd keep my F in Bucklers only, and take the D or C+ for the better kinds.

                              Oh I see, so you'd rather have F skill on bucklers just because, and have better skill with the heavier shields which don't fit the duelist motif at all. ...ok. <_<;
