New Level Sync Feature to Change the Way You Party! (08/25/2008)
Re: New Level Sync Feature to Change the Way You Party! (08/25/2008)
oh that..... big freaking whoop your capped at the level your fighting at, if your not capped at the next bam skill-ups I don't understand your overall concern. I leveled my sword and dagger to 250 in a week fom 135/100 Hi 2 U skill up parties.
Re: New Level Sync Feature to Change the Way You Party! (08/25/2008)
Why does no one get the fact that it's like my new teddy bear! lol guess I'm too cutesy for forums.
Oh, I get it's your new teddy bear.
However a new teddy bear that leaves you looking rather worn out and satisfied I might add
I don't think I'd worry too much about skillups, skillup parties have been around since the start of the game. If anything I think this would help bridge the gap between the 100-180ish skill levels. Or at least I think 150 has been the minimum skill level that people request before heading off to the Tree or wherever.
Too, I believe there are a few Assaults that could be used as skillup opportunities, towards the higher end of your skillcapping needs obviously, but those aren't as ideal. Still though, it's a bit better than waiting a few hours for a Besieged to start up.
I am curious to see how my Assault Jerkin turns out in the lower levels, as well as my Thalassocrat scales. I don't keep much in the way of level capped gear beyond a few accessories, but I have a polearm for every occasion stored, and it would be nice to sell off a few of 'em. I might sell off a few now actually while the price is good, I'm not planning on any level capped events for awhile. Ah wait, fudge, scratch that, I'll need 'em still for BCNMs and other mission level capped fights.
You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.
I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.
Well some people don't like being /anon. Myself, I'll put my search comment up for a mission I'm trying to finish (Hai2u Windy 8-1) but fucking get invites to xp instead. It's annoying.
Also, just being WHM75 with a name that starts with A is apparently asking to be bothered, even when I'm doing shit like, I don't know, DYNAMIS! And if my ls didn't have a rule against being /anon in Dynamis, I would be /anon. If I'm on WHM for any length of time without /anon, I get bothered damn near constantly. Sometimes I don't want my name to be blue. Sometimes you just don't feel like going /anon. I shouldn't have to just because people won't leave me the fuck alone.

No you won't, item scaling applies to those areas too. That's why they have a screenshot of a guy using Aegis in Promyvion.
There's actually two new systems being introduced at once: level sync, which allows you to voluntarily cap your level at a party member's (if you're not in a level cap zone/bcnm already - if you *are* in a level capped area, you can't choose a cap different from the area's cap), and item scaling, which allows you to wear items above your cap level but some stats don't work and others are reduced proportional to the cap level / item's level. They work together, obviously - it would be much harder to use level sync if you had to obey the old restrictions on gear under caps - but item scaling would have been useful even if it had been introduced on its own, for things like BCNMs, CoP missions etc.
As for BLU - sync first, then set (or check) your spells. Same as you do in level capped areas currently.
P.S. I wonder if this will revive capped Assaults too. If you have five 75s and a 60 wants to join them you currently have to choose between finding level capped gear for all the 75s and telling the 60 "No thanks, we'll find someone else", which almost always resulted in the latter. Now you can just do the assault 60-capped with all the 75s using scaled-down gear.

All this complaining....... has SE really done anything wrong to what they say they are going to do? or are most of you jumping on the "OMG SE WILL SCREW THIS UP" bandwagon. Thats what it seems like to me.
1. If you are worried about skill ups, say NO! thats all you have to do is say no..... how hard can that be?
2. You are not the most important person in the game, I am sure that over the 200-300 people lfp or not lfp as whm, brd, cor, blu etc. that your name is going to be targeted first all the time.
3. If you do end up getting bothered, then just go /anon thats what it is there for after all, or start filling up your blist. But I dont think any of these reasons are good enough to say SE's idea is bad in the least. Nore is it good enough to belittle it in anyway.
Just stop being so picky, and start looking at it in a positive way believe me it does you a lot of good. Also saves a lot on the bitching department. SE cannot control what other's do. The actions of the players are not what makes an idea or implement of SE's into the game bad.
IMO: I think this is a wonderful edition and should have been added sooner. It has great potential and will help any new player lvl faster by far, allowing newer people to not turn their nose to the game so quickly. Before FFXI was just a game for those who started on it as a first MMO. Most people who transferred over would instantly be turned off compared to how hard it is to other MMO's out there. To get a party, to lvl at a decent rate, etc. This was something other MMO's had that made them instantly better in other ppl's eyes. Now SE is introducing it, just prepare for the world of difference it is going to make.

One thing that others haven't mentioned (I don't think they have, at least) that I'd really like to see with the advent of this is being able to LFP under multiple levels. For example, when going LFP, if you could put in the level range you're looking for a party in (like you do when you're searching for a party member) as 50-75 and then, if someone does a /sea for WHM 50-55 , you still come up in that search even though you're not currently level synced, because you're lfp in that level range.

That actually sounds like a really good idea, or they can implement it as, when you go to put up your lfp flag, you choose what lvl's you are looking for before it actually go's up. Then people who look in that lvl range will see you on the list.
Re: New Level Sync Feature to Change the Way You Party! (08/25/2008)
It is going to be fun when higher level people start looking for specifik leveled characters that they can sync down to, because at that specifik level you get good exp. Like say level 14-18 in korroloka tunnel.
Either way I think this is a great change because there is a reason my brothers kept making fun of me saying all you do in that game is sit on the stairs talking in your LS. Hopefully that sort of behavoiur, which was not volountary but rather a necessity to get to lvl75, will be remedied.

Don't know how long you've been playing but some of the people who've been around since Japanese or NA launch long since ceased to get excited by S-E changes until they see how they're implemented. That said, if it goes live along the same lines as the notes indicate I can't see how this can't be anything other than a much needed shot in the arm for the game. Has me seriously considering returning if the impact on partying during my normal hours is noticeable.

All I can remember is stuff being underwhelming really, like chocobo raising and races, but truthfully I can't say there's many situations where that happened.
signatures are for pussies mew mew mew, here's mine
Re: New Level Sync Feature to Change the Way You Party! (08/25/2008)
Yeah, that's the funny thing. I've been around since one year after NA launch and most of the changes really were underwhelming. The really big ones were scarce. It's more logical for the older members to be all "WHOAH OMG" than the newer ones who started playing in the midst of the myriad of changes ToAU/WotG has brought to game mechanics.
They seriously just need to get a better English translator for these things.
QFT. Anyone remember when BLU was implemented, and the English translation misled everyone to believe that you couldn't learn spells from Too Weak mobs?
