      It's about time they did something. NM Difficulty should not be measured in the amount of time it takes to kill it.

      It's easy to argue that making fights longer makes them more difficult, but it's just as easy to argue the opposite. SE could throw out an NM that has billions of HP but never fights back and it wouldn't be difficult to kill, but just take a fcking long time.

      Plenty of MMOs in the past have had difficult encounters that don't take 18+ hours. I can't imagine any MMO today can even compare to the difficulty of EverQuest endgame* content, but EQ sure as hell didn't have any 18+ hour fights.


      *Disclaimer: I have not played EverQuest for the last 7 or 8 expansions and have no idea what the endgame content of today is like. Let's all pretend EverQuest stopped having expansions after The Scars of Velious for the sake of this statement.

        pffft maybe they should do something about nm's spawn times. Such as fafnir, behemoth etc. Like seriously who really gives a shit about 2 NM's that are rarely challenged, compared to the over camping/botting of the NM's we fight everyday. SE seriously looks at things ass backwards, I swear they apply way to much blah updates to shit when a quick tweak like making faffy a pop nm with the HQ versions being the timed ones, fuck SE still doesn't get it after 3 years of people bitching about, but two weeks and some bad media spin gives them a green light on this.

          But then they could put a 24 hour time limit on that NM. And it would be difficult again.

          However, the idea that these higher than HNM mobs are just going to sit around and let you work away at their HP is silly. They will work hard to kill you; and the longer you go, the more strained your players are. The more likely people are to make mistakes, the more likely something is to slip through the cracks, the more likely they are to get complacent. The more likely something is going to happen and kill you.

              Cause supposedly something involving killing JoLs summons affects the regen rate of AV. If its not that, your guess is as good as mine.

                  I know it will be a WTF Mind Screw if someone went fighting JoL as they would any other time, and things seem to be going along as normal, but the JoL despawns with a "doing it wrong" message [like many people are saying might/should happen with AV and PW].

                    That would fucking piss me off, it takes like two week to farm a fucking JoL popset. Wiping is one thing, but losing pop items like that would be bullshit.

                      I agree with that JoL isnt hard just irritating. I have not done AV or PW nor do I want to. But seriously, SE are pussies. How many articles and news casts have been made in response to WoW "sucking" the life from people Ive seen at least 4. As someone who plays WoW from time to time, they changed nothing.

                      There is a pretty simple option, If you can't play for 18 hours as a team then don't do it. Its not hard to cycle players in and out to get food or nap for a couple hours, hell we have 5 time zones in North America, (7 if you include Atlantic Canada and Hawaii) Thats a 2 hour roll over into each. If anyone was serious about taking down one of these, smart planing of rolling over players or working a cycle system can help. Hell I did a 9 hour party one night where the second RDM and I would cycle ourselves every couple hours.

                      Like seriously, thanks to stupid retards who play till the pass out faint get sick, and don't care for themselves, we get to see how SE fucks up the way we fight bosses, hell I wouldnt be suprised if they started changing other things around at a later date.

                          I'll admit to being one of those voices. I complained and I got a response. I, also, would like to see the approach that if after X amount of hours, you haven't killed the thing, it DESTROYS you or flees or something. Continuing the search for ridiculously obscure tricks is pretty crappy, though. I agree with a lot of you... surprising. NPCs that have no worth to combat is really getting old. Why can't they at least give us pieces to the puzzle? Just having one who mentions the legend of Absolute Virtue, and another who corresponds and mentions something about its purpose. And something in the purpose would spark the minds of players to have a means of fighting him... you get the idea.

                          18 hours was just silly. Most endgame LSs will have a few people willing to do a fight like this, and more of their people unwilling or unable. This means the only way for most people to amass an AV/PW-killing army is by coercing players to show up throughout the day (hellooooo mandatory events) or by creating a server-wide "Dream Team". But the way Endgame LS politics always work out, it'd be nigh impossible to do that -- basically, everyone on your server who cares about killing the mob and sitting in for the long haul into the same dynamis-style LS and somehow magically expecting the problems of LS hatred and drop-rights to solve themselves.

                          Changing PW to have every form have a low chance of dropping an item, and finally finishing the fight guaranteed 100% full drops -- that would be an interesting way to mess with him. That would make it worthwhile for small, undermanned LSs to at least pop it and try fighting it for an hour or 3.

                          Oh, one final note: I agreed on JoL thing, talking to a friend. Mentioning how weakening JoL will make him into another Kirin and I'm not sure I wanna see that. But he makes the compelling and very obvious argument that if AV is to be taken seriously, wasting another hour on just popping him can kinda suck. But really, another Rage mode would do the trick, here. It's actually going into the 2 and 3 hour fights that make JoL lots of suck. If you plan on taking on AV, it should be a requirement that you can do JoL in 45 minutes or less.

                            It's probably an unfair comparison to make between SE's approach to an HNM that's been out for 4+ years (or however long Fafnir/Nidhogg has been in the game) and PW. If there were horrible issues with Fafhogg within the first few months after players first began fighting it, SE would have been far more likely to deal with the issues then rather than years down the road. PW is still "fresh" in the minds of the developers. So from SE's perspective, it would make sense to deal with it now.

                              PW was changed simply because it was causing them extreme bad press. Since when in the history of FFXI has anyone on these forums heard of the game being talked about on international news sites? In the space of a fortnight the game went from idling along quietly with little to no outside interest shown in it to the focal point for every MMO-hater and concerned parent on the planet.

                                First, if it takes an ls over 2 hours to kill JOL, then they'll never have what it takes to kill AV. JOL is NOT that hard and should take an hour and a half to two hours TOPS. In all my time in sea, I've never seen a fight go longer than that.

                                Second, an hour and a half to kill a mob of this caliber is not that long so shortening it to 45 minutes is stupid. It will be a downright shame if they would dummy it down this much. Love Torque and Novio Earring are 2 very sweet pieces of equips and should have a challenging mob drop them. Farming for the pop set is a challenge and fighting the mob should be also.
