    Merit Points Group 1 for Dancer and Scholar! (08/13/2008)

    Dancers and scholars, rejoice! The job-specific merit point category, Group 1, will finally be coming to you in the upcoming version update!

    With this addition, dancers and scholars alike will be able to reach new heights by spending acquired merits points on upgrades such as reducing ability delay and enhancing the overall effect of their job-exclusive abilities. The group maximum ability increase and the individual maximum ability increase will be 10 and 5 respectively, in line with the other jobs.

    Of course they don't say anything about what they will *be*...

    AFAIK, dancers don't really have recast issues, except maybe if you want to spam Steps faster than currently allowed. Step Effectiveness would be complicated to implement because of the way steps from different dancers interact, so I'm guessing we'll see Step Recast (1 sec per point), Flourish Accuracy (Desperate/Violent), maybe Waltz Effectiveness. Samba... umm... duration? There's a duration merit for Cover, so I guess it can be done.

    Stratagem Recast would be the obvious SCH merit, probably no more than 2 sec per point but that's still pretty nifty. Maybe improved skill levels from LA/DA? (IIRC your magic skill merits are also applied on top of your LA/DA skill level, but still, SCH could use some help catching up to other mage jobs in the skill department.) Effectiveness of specific stratagem pairs, maybe?

    Actually, what you'd really want is *different* improvements for LA and DA - e.g. more MP reduction for the former, skill or magic accuracy for the latter - given the spells linked to each and the ways they tend to be actually used.

      My thoughts on possible SCH merit categories:

      Magic Accuracy (obv.)
      Helix Effect (i.e. Modus Veritas' effect w/o the downside, on a smaller scale of course)
      Storm Effect (increases M.Att & M.Acc for storm element)
      Light Arts/Dark Arts Bonus (increases Conserve MP% and skill levels, decreases crossover penalties?)

              SCH only really needs help in the Elemental Magic department, but then they're not meant to replace BLM either (more like a stand-in) so I don't see it happening.
