Re: Heightened Security on the Windows PlayOnline Viewer

I don't know, maybe tell their users "be secure, idiots. Here's an guide: <link to some computer security site>". Or you know, something else obvious.

100 years of the automobile and a whole lot of people still don't know there is regular maintenance (like oil changes) that have to be performed on them. The www has been available to everyone and their dog for over 15 years, and it hasn't been a nice place for that whole time. People who are going to do things to protect themselves find out how to on their own. SE linking to some site, which most likely has been available for some time, will do nothing for the majority who can not be bothered to learn anything.

          Awareness always helps.

You are mostly correct; but you don't see a whole lot of people out there getting pissed to manufacturers about cars being stolen when they're left unlocked. Car companies add new security features all the time, which is definitely a good thing; but it does absolutely no good if they don't say "Oh, and hey, maybe you should actually try locking your doors before you bother getting the alarm installed."

              You done?

Seriously, SE seems to be trying real damn hard to make everyone happy. They're not responsible for your com and yet they still try to help.

So please, explain to me, in your vast experiance playing this game in the past two years or so at least, how SE is abusing players when they're literally giving them everything they've asked for and more.

Oh, Ziero, I was wondering where you were going with that post. That is the best punchline I've heard so far this week.

I'm not saying this solves everything but it does help ^^

The only thing that might be better is if we could somehow use our fingerprints as the password to log into pol XD

you probably can if you have one of those fingerprint scanners; it would just convert your fingerprint into an alphanumeric password. Safer than using your dog's name, but somewhat dangerous to not know your own password.

First off, I just started coming here after 4-5 years of game play and I already don't like you.
I was recently hacked and I'm damn glad they are doing SOMETHING about the issue, it makes me feel like they acknowledge there is a known issue and will do something about it besides post reminders to update virus protection and spyware and to not use 3rd party tools.
Now to the quote. What, pray tell, do you think SE should do to make their users secure? Why not send them some free anti-virus software via mail? Or why don't you do it?
The fact is, they cannot make their users be more secure. There is no way to make sure a FFXI windows player has the most up-to-date protection. But what they are able to realistically do is acknowledge the issue and try to prevent what is currently happening on their end.
                                Thanks for the fallacies.
