It's not as though a bit of a derail has stopped people from complaining about game mechanics before. Why start now?

I have no idea whether to be amused or offended. So I'll be ambivalent.

        Re: Ixion is come (06/06/2006)

About 5 hours ago, I equipped my Silmarilion pearl as Finathlon was getting ready to go to sleep. He was setting up plans for camping Ixion assuming it's an actual avatar. This was roughly the point where I informed the rest of the SMN shell that I would be camping the Dev team for items if it turned out Ixion is a HNM instead.

Given my track record on these things, I'd like to know if anyone knows which zone the Dev Team spawns in. I predict I will be spending a lot of time here. I'd go harass them IRL, but this requires gas priced somewhere between gold and diamonds, as well as some idea of where I'm going. I'll go for the pixellated travel for now.

Join the ranks of Summoners! See the virtual world! Meet new and interesting people, THEN CAMP THEM INCESSANTLY 'TIL THEY CAVE IN TO OUR ENTIRELY REASONABLE DEMANDS! Also, threaten their pets. Yours are glowing, and they probably eat dogs and cats...

          Ok. I'll bite.

If Ixion is an avatar, every single SMN who rejoices is being a fool. Even if his level 70 :Rage were half the MP cost of the others but did as much damage, it would just mean we'd never see the others ever again. You're not a Summoner if you're really just "Ixion's mp pool." Likewise, a :Ward that gives... I dunno. Refreshga. Sure. It just means it's now your sole purpose. Either it's so good you won't see the others ever again or it's crap and will never get used.

          All it accomplishes, is this:

Also so that after they start bitching again idiots can pipe in saying "You just got a new avatar a few months ago. What the hell more do you want?". Have to keep the idiots entertained, they're the largest part of the userbase.
So horrifyingly true. And worse! The SMN community doesn't seem to mind!

I guess main healing is cool. Meanwhile, labeling Hastega every 2-3 minutes as "Haste bitch" like it's a shameful task and demeaning of SMN.

Am I the only person who keeps running into SMNs who seem to feel both of the above sentences are true? "I'll main heal but if you let me whip out a Summon I INSIST on using it for damage."

          ...

I'm done. Let's see what happens 6 hours from this post.

One is the final boss for an entire expansion's storyline and the other is the final boss for a constantly repeated and frequently defeated endgame battleground. I think SE said otherwise. Diabolos was a speed bump in the CoP story and he was never really trying to kill you in the forst place, hell in his mind he was helping humanity.

I doubt AoC or Warhammer have anything to do with them releasing so much this update, especially seeing as many things are either naturally progressing changes (Campaign fixes and missions), long time projects that have seeming been worked out (changes to Eihnj, job additions), or simple left field additions that should have been in place long ago (merits, "new" NM system). People complained the last few updates were lacking yet praise this one for being stuffed full of awesome...think about that for a minute...

And if Ixion is an Avatar, cool, if not then it's still awesome. Personally I hope he's another random zone hoping HNM and one that's a bit stronger and more rewarding then the Worm.

I hope that means you refuse to main heal. Hard to upkeep MP while doing these every minute. Oh but wait, why get 1k damage/minute when a WAR will do more than that just in auto-attack damage? Summoner is currently incapable of performing as a support/DD job as intended.

In fact, I reckon the biggest problem with SMN is that the community is so dead set on being DD! This isn't FF4. Thieves can finally do more than Steal. And Summoners can do more than AoE DD.

We're dead set on it cause we have SUBBED, HALFED heals. Not only does healing eats up mp, so does the really nice BPs. Lets not forget, the Magic Burstable BPs, do generally better with TP, which needs mp just to keep the avatar out for that.

Smn may have the biggest mp pool, but it goes fast as, if not faster than blm nukes, or rdm cure spamming after "oh shit, mob used a move and is about to kill so and so! Oh noes, its hitting me, spam cure on myself!"

Biggest help for summoner would be more avatar buffing JSE. Give gear that would up avatar's acc to the effect of popping a sushi, atk like meat kabobs, evasion like evasion torque, defense like defender/sentinel, enmity like flash, MAB like every piece of blm gear, magic accuracy like Nashira pieces, haste like monk haste gear, and the ability to make it so avatar's don't auto-attack if you don't want it to.

There are more roles than healer and DD to play, you know. You don't see bards using gimp cures as an excuse to melee.

Having just completed 8-1 in Al'Tieau last night, and having half the mobs in the zone distract my avatar every time I tried to kite one, let's make this one a top priority, mmkay?

What the hell? I leave this thread for a couple days and it's degraded from avatar sex jokes to a game mechanics discussion... I can't leave you kids alone at all.

                            This shit again, /sigh.

Er... given how low the healing skill curve actually is in this game, you're going to have to explain how a SMN's Cure III is "gimped" when its practically every bit as good as a WHM's Cure III.

Sssh, the idiots who don't play healers don't know that. That's our only upper hand.

What 'kitten said. Healing skill means fuck-all. Piling a bunch of MND and Light staff yields a superior effect.
