Proceed here for more details. New Notorious Monsters (NMs) will be added to areas introduced in the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion pack in the forthcoming version update, with simplified access to their battlefields.

A Word from the Development Team
NM battles have been one of the most popular elements of FFXI since its launch. Nothing stirs the adventurer's soul quite the same way as cooperating with dependable comrades to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds, with rare equipment drops being the very tasty icing on the cake.

Thus far, however, getting the chance to battle NMs has been almost as difficult a task as fighting the creatures themselves. One often needed a lot of time and plenty more luck to successfully arrange an encounter with the creatures. In light of the ever-increasing number of fan requests for more opportunities to do battle against powerful monsters and reap the rewards, the development team has decided to implement some changes to make the excitement of NMs—even those of the same caliber as particularly infamous varieties inhabiting Tu'Lia and Al'Taieu—more accessible to all.

    Overview of the New System
Carrying out requests from a certain NPC will earn you points which, when accumulated, can be exchanged for NM trigger items. The cost of these triggers will fluctuate based on the corresponding NM's difficulty level and popularity among adventurers. A limit will also be imposed on the number of points that can be earned in one Vana'dielian day (one Earth hour). Even with the above conditions in place, obtaining triggers under this new system should be relatively pain-free, especially when compared to fulfilling the elaborate requirements of some existing NM battles.
*Please note that this point system is applicable only to select new NMs scheduled to appear from the June version update.

In order to maximize flexibility in participant numbers, in most cases the target to which you trade triggers in order to gain entry into battlefields will be located in field areas.

    Rewards
Over fifty new types of equipment will be made available as exclusive drops for defeating these new NMs. Here are just a few samples to whet your ravenous adventurer's appetite:

If people don't like killing NMs, then why do they do it? To get more equipment so they can not enjoy killing more monsters to get more equipment so they can not enjoy killing monsters?

It's pointless if you don't have fun doing it. I would say there are several frustrations regarding NM camping that make it less enjoyable:
                • Work-intensity: It often takes a lot of people a long time to acquire pop items or simply to get the Time of Death and to further complicate the issue, many NMs require pop items that only drop from other NMs which may, themselves, create all three of these problems.
                • Excessive, cheating competition: Trying to compete with a flock of claimbots is not fun.
                • Inconvenient Timing: NM pops for timed spawns that only occur every few days are the most exasperating--even when you can get the pop time, it has to be within your shell's activity window and can often occur at the same time as other events (like your Dynamis run) that is disruptive to scheduling and can make it difficult to arrange camping.
Notice actually killing the NM isn't on the list. The new NM system appears to be designed to eliminate at least the 2nd and 3rd of these two things. Eliminating claimbotting is probably the biggest one. As long as SE puts gear that is as desirable as King drops, this should provide an alternative sport to trying to compete with people who are not playing fairly. Since all of the new NMs are force-spawned, scheduling becomes trivial, #3 is completely eliminated under the new system.

The 1st problem will still occur but it will be based on the relative popularity of the NMs popped.

I don't wanna hunt em but sadly I enjoy them, just not enough to upgrade a second relic for someone who doesn't attend linkshell events as it is.

Unless you get equipment that allows you to join an activity or group that allows you to have fun.

I told you that'd be an epic SS, and yes, I'd have to say that, after the Dev Team, the GMs get first crack at the new updates on Atomos.

Getting more and more tempted to return. If only the new player experience wasn't so shit and making cash wasn't such a fucking chore.
