Yes, but not everyone may find that piece of work educational, uplifting, enlightening, etc. You're not going to get a consensus on that any more than you are on entertainment value.

I'm not talking about whether something was personally uplifting (which I didn't mention, and would not even joke about putting next to the traits I listed) or enlightening, but whether it possessed those traits. And education value isn't really something that can be argued about; I mean, something either teaches people about something or it doesn't.

Yes, but who determines whether it has those qualities? People. And educational value can absolutely be subjective. Thats' why there are different learning methods, and different teaching methods. Because people learn differently. Present material in one way to a large audience, and some people are going to get it, and others aren't. Not because of a problem on the part of the audience, but because the information presented wasn't able to convey the point for every person.

            That seems incredibly unlikely.

That was a big-size 'maybe'. 16-point font intended.

                Definitely more realistic.

Again, I mean in general, not to a specific person. Like, NOVA, it would be hard to argue that it isn't educational; although you could argue that watching videos doesn't work well for you, it will be educational for many, if not most.

Yeah, I understand that. Different learning types for different people. But I mean, if you turn on the History Channel you're probably going to learn a bit more than if you turn on Lifetime.

That is entirely dependant on what you attempt to learn. Lifetime has taught me infinitely valuable lessons, like that despite the fact that a woman goes crazy, kills 6 people and assumes another woman's identity to sleep with her boyfriend that she wants to kill as well, it's still somehow a man's fault.

And also that Golden Girls was a seriously perverted show. I feel uncomfortable just talking about it.

By the same argument, if something is on HBO it's probably entertaining. But not for everyone. And you might see something on SciFi that is more entertaining than, say, CSPAN (or vice versa, I suppose). Subjective!

Lifetime teaches me that the women from sitcoms I watched in the 80s are still alive and working, apparently.

no, education isn't subjective like entertainment is.

I mean, if you watch history channel, most shows are going to be presented with facts about history, in a narrative that tells a historical story. If you look at sci-fi, there might be a few facts, but they're going to be mixed in with fictional 'facts' as well. Hell, the same thign applies to C-SPAN (haha, I made a politics joke!)

Facts are educational, regardless of how well you remember them. Fiction, or things which are so unreliable that they might as well be fiction, not so much.

But if I know all of the facts being presented, it's not very educational for me. So educational value may not be subjective. But it is relative. I just might find a Lifetime original movie to be more educational to me than a film about basic algebra.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm trying to explain what I'm talking about. Like, School House Rock, even if you already know everything in it it's still educational; if not on a personal level.
