    [Affected Services]
    FINAL FANTASY XI

    [Important Update Details]

    - The restriction on a specific special ability of the NM "Skogs Fru" in East Ronfaure [S] has been removed.

The following issues have been addressed:

    - If the expansion disc "Wings of the Goddess" was not installed, the game would freeze after completing the battle fields in Throne Room.

    - Harvesting in Wajaom Woodlands and Bhaflau Thickets may have been unavailable.

    - Inability to target Brittle Rock in the assault "Excavation Duty" in certain conditions.

    - Dark Kindred "Shadowhand" may have cast certain spells on players which it normally does not cast.

    - The affect of "Regen" was not listed on the item description of the item "Sol Cap."

    - The help message of following magic scrolls did not include the level for Scholar:
    Raise II/Reraise/Reraise II/Sleep II

    - If the expansion disc "Treasures of Aht Urhgan" was not installed, the effect of the magic "Retrace," "Recall-Jugner," "Recall-Pashh," and "Recall-Meriph" would not initiate.

    - Players may have been unable to target "Fortification" during campaign battles.
    * Due to the change, "Fortification" and monsters from campaign battles will no longer link.

    - Certain monsters may not have retreated immediately after the campaign battle ends.

    - Even though the Campaign Ops "Bridge Too Far" was not offered, an event reporting the result of "Bridge Too Far" may have started to scroll after talking to Campaign Arbiters.

    - Recipes other than Alchemy appropriate ones may have been assigned even though Alchemy was selected in Campaign Ops "Iron Anvil III."

    - The Dancer job ability "Samba" was effective on player's pets.

    - Magic "Sleep II" did not extend its effect to targets within range when the Scholar job ability "Manifestation" is used.

    - Unknown characters appeared on the help message of "I.R. Chainmail" and "I.R. Sollerets."

    - The help message for the Scholar job abilities "Accession" and "Manifestation" stated that the amount of required MP will become triple if used.

    - The help message of Scholar's job ability "Sublimation" was incorrect.

    - In case Scholar is selected as a support job, the number of Charge and recast intervals of the Scholar job ability "Stratgems" differed depending on the level of the main job.

    - The character motions for "/dance1," "/dance2," "/dance3" and "/dance4" emotes did not play the correct motions for Tarutaru characters.

Example: When player fishes while the battle BGM is playing.

    - Sometimes was unable to access the "Mog House" menu while in the Mog House.

    - Position of the cursor may shift in certain menus (Magic, Mission, Quest, Key Items, Bazaar) when the list were scrolled using the left or right keys.

Unless you're pulling, a Dancer that knows what they're doing wouldn't be /nin anyways.

Many guides I've read and effective dancers I've met sub nin. Honestly, nothing else comes to mind as a particularly effective sub anyhow. What would you recommend instead?

Just because they write a guide or sub /NIN doesn't make it the best subjob for TP gain.

/SAM and /WAR are also excellent subjobs that supplement TP gain and damage. /NIN is for helping back up provoke and setting up SATA for a THF to me, nothing more than that.

Dancer needs TP, above all else. So, support job used should be something which helps with TP gain. If I were to level Dancer, I'd go with:

Lv.10-19: Too easy to hit for 0 vs. crab and fish, but support job can really help with that. Instead, I'd go /BRD, for the measly 1HP/tick Paeon--it's better than nothing.

Lv.20-29: /RNG for Accuracy Bonus, or /DRG for Attack Bonus and Jump.

Lv.30-49: /DRG for Attack Bonus, Jump, and latent gear. If /DRG not available, then /WAR for Berserk for a little more oomph per swing, or /NIN for faster swings from Dual Wield.

Lv.50-59: /WAR for Berserk and Double Attack.

Lv.60-69: /SAM for Meditate and Store TP. /WAR for Berserk, Double Attack, and Attack Bonus.

Lv.70+: /SAM for Meditate and Store TP. /WAR for Berserk, Double Attack, and Attack Bonus, or /NIN for faster swings, Utsusemi, and an extra hit on Evisceration.

Or, just go /NIN from DNC24+ for Utsusemi. Nice to have the flexibility to pull (yeah, I'm a lousy puller, so Utusemi would save my behind), and one can never tell what kind of a "tank" one will get in a pickup group anyway.
                        Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
                        yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
leaving no trace in the water.

Re: FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Mar. 17)

There's a number of subs that are actually a lot more effective than /nin that I've found. Especially in the lower levels where a lot of whatever /nin has going for it is negligible, or even not in the picture to begin with.

The problem I see on most Dancers is the fact that the community has brainwashed Thieves into thinking that DW daggers is the only effective method to do damage. This is wrong. DW Daggers is good, but not the only method; there are other, equally viable methods and subs to do what you need to do. Because Dancer and Thief are extremely similar in gear options, many people have just adopted /nin as some sort of standard. Nothing wrong with it in and of itself, but there are indeed options that are equal to or better than /nin.

No, having shadows isn't an excuse to let healers be lazy. No, using the "MP efficiency" excuse isn't valid either. It's Dancer, they can heal themselves in a number of ways that won't jack up hate.

As for subs that work, here's a few: Warrior, Thief, Monk, Dragoon, Dark Knight, Samurai, Blue Mage, Corsair, Bard, Puppetmaster, Beastmaster, Ranger. All of those offer something in terms of either Job Traits, Abilities, related gear, or all three, that put them on par with or exceeding Ninja.

Here's an example. Let's take Dragoon. Yeah, we don't get the Wyvern, boo hoo. Not an issue. The point of this sub is to enhance our Attack, Accuracy, and Base Attribute values, while giving us additional TP sources to work with for our dances. There's even gear that works with this sub specifically to enhance some of those abilities through allowing faster attacks* and even further Attack boosts. Since you'll only be swinging one dagger, the fact that that dagger will be hitting harder and more often offsets the fact that you're only swinging that one dagger.

The additional 5 Attack and Accuracy from a second dagger that gives those boosts kinda isn't that good compared to having a full +10 of each just by changing subs, while opening that slot up for other equipment. Also, while you're at it, why not take advantage of /drg and toss on the cape? Another 6 Attack right there. More Attack is always good; gives you a better chance to hit for more than 0.

Jump is also another bonus for extra TP as well as a bit of damage.

That's just the example for Dragoon. There's quite a few more jobs up there that all have something of worth to give Dancer as a sub. Get out of the "/NIN ONRY!!!11!" mindset, and you'll find some very good combos that actually work out there.

Re: FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Mar. 17)

The main reason I said the /nin thing... sometime, when you have a free minute, do "/sea all dnc 20-75". I did that the other day, and every single person was /nin with one exception -- someone was a 57DNC/BLM, I'm assuming for traveling purposes (Warp + Chocobo Jig I'm sure). I didn't constrain my search, I just did a /sea dnc all -- all the dnc's less than 20 had various subs, including MNK, PUP and WHM.

However, people seem to be all about /NIN (I CAN HAZ 2 WEAPNOS), really for any job. However, I would agree that /SAM is best, but that's another discussion -- I'm just saying that everyone's going to want me to be duel-wield-and-utsusemi-happy to fit into a party situation.

Now I need to blow off some steam.

                            Edit:

To clarify, I'm all for stopping people for /NIN. As I suggested in my original reply, I haven't even unlocked the job yet, and look how far I am without it. But, if I have any hope of reaching any decent level in a decent amount of time, party situations are more often than not the best way to go. That, or a decent duo/trio to take advantage of a little bit of an xp bonus for smaller groups (and since Dancer can solo EM/T anyway with Waltzes, having 2 more can take that up a good bit), but I could never get a good duo/trio static.

                            Edit2:
Mistyped -- it's not the BEST way to go, but it's the most expected and wanted.

I still think /WAR is a lot better than /SAM. Meditate is about the only thing you have going for you given that daggers don't earn enough TP on their own to make Store TP worth it, and can't use Hasso or Seigan so... yah.

I'd rathter /WAR for berserk and double attack, or shit even /DRG for Jump, Hi Jump and Wyvern Earring.
