  • Final Fantasy XI Update (Dec. 5)

    http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/pol...ews12181.shtml

At the following time, we performed a version update of FINAL FANTASY XI.

    [Affected Period]
    Dec. 5, 2007 11:00 (PST)

    [Affected Services]
    FINAL FANTASY XI

    [Important Update Details]

Following changes have been made to the Campaign:

-Headhunting has been implemented and freelancers can now be found in the appropriate areas.

-The length of time NPCs standby before engaging in battle has been reduced.

-The interval of time between Region Information updates has been shortened.

-Campaign battles consisting solely of Allied Forces' NPCs, the results of which were previously not reflected in the Region Information, will now be reflected.

-Campaign battles will now continue until the attacking forces have been annihilated. Should this not occur after one hour (Earth time), the forces will withdraw.

-The NPCs of the Allied Forces have been strengthened.

-The disparity in levels between each army's NPCs has been lessened.

-Player assessments will now be conducted automatically following completion of a Campaign battle.
Should a player be KO'd, assessment will take place immediately upon reviving unless the player leaves the area in which the Campaign battle took place.

-Upon successful completion of the Campaign Ops entitled "Offensive Operations, Smokescreen I - III" or "Defensive Operations, Aegis Scream I - III," the player may receive confirmation by talking to the NPC from whom they undertook the quest, rather than having to speak to a Campaign Arbiter.
*As before, players are still required to speak to a Campaign Arbiter in order to undergo an assessment of their Campaign battle performance.

-Fortifications in areas held by the Beastman Confederate are now capable of being attacked.

-Morale and prosperity ratings totaling zero following a Campaign tally will now be supplemented.

-An issue wherein only the Yagudo Theomilitary's prosperity rating would suffer penalties during Campaign tallies has been addressed.

-An issue wherein the monsters Kyo and Pya summoned by the NPC Lhu Mhakaracca would not disappear under certain circumstances has been addressed.

-When participating in Campaign battles, the following NPCs will no longer attack Campaign-specific monsters:
Gold Badger Esquire / 4th Legionnaire / Piscean Caster / Clan Bear Fighter / Bo'Dho's Shieldwarrior / Divine Pilgrim

    Following issues have been addressed:

-An issue wherein multiple-attacks would not cease despite the requirements for the multiple-attack no longer being fulfilled has been addressed for the following monsters:
Tres Duendes / Unstable Cluster / Aries / Mystic Avatar / Luaith / Bloody Daggers / Demonic Rod / Living Staves / Cursed Axe / Magic Shields / Hamadryad / Temenos Ghrah / Goblin Preceptor / Jailer of Prudence / Wabjahl

-An issue wherein the strength of the notorious monsters Roc and Simurgh found in Nyzul Isle was not in keeping with original settings has been addressed.

-Assorted other issues have also been addressed.

    -----

Guess there's an update after all. And it looks like they're attempting to fix Campaign. No idea how good those changes are, though, myself.

I'm glad they finally extended it to an hour max. Now it may feel like more like a war than a 10-minute skirmish of hit and run tactics.

That single item alone is totally worth it.

Bah, the one issue I've had wasn't listed. It seems pets - or at least BST jug pets - are forced away when you grab Allied Tags. Simple solution would simply be not to call or summon them before you have tags, but its kind of a waste of a pet if you already had it out, particularly where jug pets are concerned.

Ehh, I kinda liked that with campaign I could log in for 20 minutes and log off feeling like I'd gotten something done. An hour is a bit long for that, but I guess that would only possibly happen if the defenders sucked.

Yeah, I kind of agree with Taskmage. Sometimes it seems like I've just barely gotten there and it ends, but as long as I buff myself and my party on the way to a mob or two, I get some xp out of it. I kind of like that fast paced deal, we'd jump from camp to camp getting all kinds of xp and notes. Though lately, we've been so busy in endgame that we haven't had much time for Campaign, though that should change soon enough.

I personally can't wait for more missions, my friends and I all plan to do them together as they come out.

They didn't say that the battles will always last one hour, but that it will go on until the forces are defeated or one hour, which ever comes first.

Though not having participated in a campaign battle yet it may be that every one is going to go on for an hour now. I'm just saying that the update notes don't say for definite that it will.

Campaign battles usually don't last an hour.

Yea, this is more how I see it. I'm sure there will still be those 5 minute skirmishes where the beastmen will come charging in only to be leveled by a wall of PCs just foaming at the bit for more EXP. This is especially true in the starter zones.

Actually the NPCs pack a MUCH greater punch on the Campaign NMs than PCs do, the Campaign mobs seem to have incredible defense and are quite hard hitters.

You know, in response to what Aksannyi said, I wonder if allied NPCs are S-E's way to see if there's an imbalance between monsters and players.

Well that could be, or maybe it's just that we're so used to squishy mobs nowadays (thanks, ToAU) that the Campaign mobs seem extra tough.

Has anyone else experienced a dramatic increase in campaign battles? I noticed it's become more frequent. I hope it stays the same and S-E doesn't go nerf it again. D:
