Way to wave the broad brush of generalization. Cuz Americans are never inconvenienced by these maintenances. Every American works during the day, and none of them play during this maintenance period.

Re: All Worlds Maintenance (Nov. 28)

I think the poitn kristeena and all us EU's are putting accross is that having maintenance periods which fall 95% of the time accross the weekday times that we play means that are levelling slows down. If were in a static, have missions to do we either don't go to bed and have to pull a sickie (which to be honest is pretty lame for someone to do) or we fall behind. Once in a month is ok, twice is just about copable but 4-5 times, while the NA's and JP's carry on levlling getting exp and shooting past us, we are handicapped by the fact we can't get on due to this maintenance to prepare, craft etc. for the events we want to do. I'm levelling dancer and trying to get it up quickly, a party in valkrum was organised for this evening. Now I have been told that they want to do 3 hours straight minimum starting after maintenance. Maintenance doesn't finish till 9pm earliest, so the party time ahs been set at 10pm my time, I work for a living so can't play till 1am. So this maintenance has screwed up me being able to level quickly and I have lost a party. You wont understand until it keeps fucking up your schedule everytime you want to do something. THAT IS THE ISSUE!!

Re: All Worlds Maintenance (Nov. 28)

When S-E can and must, it only take down a few zone servers instead of an entire World or all Worlds; the Devs are clearly trying to minimize overall impact.

However, I do agree that it's not nice to always hit the same customers over and over with maintenance, however. As an NA player, I am willing to share the pain with EU players and JP players. (Well, the JP players part is just theoretical, but yeah...)

S-E, if you're actually reading this, there's at least one NA player who would like you to rotate time slots for maintenance so it won't keep hitting our EU friends, even if it costs us some prime time occasionally--especially when you have multiple update/maintenance after another within a few weeks.

Thank you Itazura. Believe me, I understand why it is always EU time. I'm just fed up of losing events all the time (there is no point in going into Dynamis at 8pm/9pm CEuT - unfair on members for a 3 hour event) because of pathetic little 2 hour maintenances. If I was brash yesterday - well I had an amazingly shite day at work (watching colleagues being told they are being made redundant isn't fun fyi), and I wouldn't normally make generalisations like I did. Jarre pretty much hit the nail on the head about the frustrations though.

          One thing though - Omni

At the following time, we will be performing FINAL FANTASY XI maintenance on all worlds. During this period, FINAL FANTASY XI will be unavailable.

          Thank you for your patience.

          * The client software will also be updated at this time. Once this maintenance is completed, the client update will start automatically after logging back into FINAL FANTASY XI. Please follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

          * The World Transfer Service will be unavailable starting 30 minutes before the maintenance. Return Home to Vana'diel Campaign will also become unavailable once the maintenance begins. Please wait until after the maintenance is completed before attempting to use these services.

          Nov. 28, 2007 from 17:00 to 19:00 (GMT)
          * Maintenance completion time may be subject to change.

It was posted right under it on the SE sites. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if they fixed the SCH charge thing too.

Since the implementation of the latest version update on Nov. 26, 2007, we have confirmed the following issue. Investigation and recovery work is currently underway.

            - The NPC is not present under some circumstances for the following quests:
            Escort for Hire (San d'Oria)
            Escort for Hire (Bastok)
            Escort for Hire (Windurst)
            * This issue has been addressed during the Nov. 27, 2007 3:00(PST) update.

            We apologize for the inconvenience.

it just doesn't make sense to take servers offline at any time but offpeak.

yes, it sucks for people that play during that time. Your options are to get more people to play then, or play some other time.

There is no rational solution SE could take.

Nope, sorry. This is already sorted.

And I know Feba, I'm just shrugging my shoulders today. Logistically it does make sense, still is bloody annoying as hell. Though off peak always makes me lol (in the nicest possible way). 2.5k on Bahamut off peak, compared to 1.2k on Kujata at peak time.

I remember when they scheduled a major all day maintenance on a national holiday where most people in the US had the day off. Thing ran from like 12 to 12 or something...now THAT sucked.

2 hour maintenaces are easy. Sucks yea, but it's not like these things happen every day/every week. For like 1-3 days after a big update every 3 months or so.
