I mistyped, it happens. One of the recent maintenances was an "emergency" one which they held at normal time, announcing it five or six hours before. How emergency can it be?

Sometimes you can actually wait a bit so you impact the less costumers even if you are in a "emergency" situation, I think they just overuse the word really.
On a completely unrelated topic I'm thinking about starting a thread complaining because SE doesn't sell XI and it's expansions for the 20 people in MX who play the game.
Seriously WTH, SE is targetting us!

Well, it's context. It's not ambulances and fire trucks and adrenaline-straight-to-the-heart emergency. It's just this needs fixed today emergency. Poor word choice on their part, but there aren't a lot of other words that would fit there very well, either. Unplanned maintenance? Surprise maintenance? Some Poor Sap is Still Stuck Running Scripts at 2 AM Maintenance? "Unscheduled" maybe.
Ellipses on Fenrir There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs. ,
. . .
They still need to plan. You know that each world probably has 50-100 servers running it. It's not like they patch 1 box, reboot it and bingo! its all done.
thats 50boxes x 20some odd worlds. They need to plan it out, stage it in phases. If you take down every single box at the same time then bring them all back again, you'll give chance to blowing your circuits.
5-6 hours to give for a maintenance window is pretty short. unless its critical, where like network goes down or service is failing completely they give themselves a bit of time to get going. It also allows players to plan ahead some what.
Frankly, there is no point talking to Americans about it, because you will always reply as you will. We understand the need for maintenances, but when you lose around half your events at the moment, you would understand why us minorities are pissed. That's all, very very pissed. We are not demanding money back etc, we are expressing our dissatisfaction.
One other thing, actually knowing what the maint are for would alleviate some of the issues. You know, communication?

So you are saying, make the game unavailable for 40% of the client base just so you guys can feel like you arent being picked on?
This is just how most network operations work you schedule down time for the least active part of the day. But way to take a weak point and turn it into something ridiculous.
Way to put words in my mouth. I understand it, but obviously I can't express my frustration (which is what it is) without everyone misinterpreting. What I would like is a little more communication from them perhaps, you know like WHY they are happening. Fixing problems is fine, what problems is another matter.

I'm not putting words in your mouth. I understand its frustrating but at the same time making this into a lolamericans dont get it or they hate EU players kind of thread does have the tendency to make people think a certain way.
Does it matter what they are fixing? Do you really think they want to spend after hours time at 2am JST to do more work than they really have to? If they feel it needs to be addressed then they address it.
As far as communicating, they do tell you what they are fixing. Take a look at the top page for ffxionline.com. It tells you the things they are addressing in each maintenance. So frankly, I dont know where you get the non-communication thing from.

Reason: re-wording.
Forget Europe, what about all those African players being affected by this dastardly maintenance!
Clearly, Square-Enix is being blatantly racist about the whole thing, purposely putting maintenances at times in which it will mostly affect African players.
On a side note... I think this should be the "Scholar" Strategem fix... -2... damn I should have abused it. Darn me and my curiosity for exploring Vana'diel's past!
They usually post what they are fixing on the day that they are fixing. This way people who wern't aware of that particular item being broken wouldn't go and ABUSE IT!
Patch!?!? Are you playing again? XD~

Hi Omniblast!!
Yeah, I'm reactivating myself when I get home from work tonight. No Best Buy in LA seems to have the darn expack so I might be a little ghetto until I can find it.
If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?

As hard as it may be, don't take this game or your characters too seriously. I promise you - the guys that really own your account don't.
