Seeing as I never used either, I'm not missing much

I will say however that everything looks slightly...off...with the official windower. At night everything is too dark and during the day it's too bright. It's certainly going to take some getting used to, as long as it doesn't lag my com I'm fine with it.

Thank God I'm not the only one who's noticed this. Last night, I was blinded by the ground in Ru'aun Gardens. Today, I noticed the same issue in Al Zahbi.

I don't plan on wearing sunglasses in the house just so I can play a video game. There's gotta be some other way to fix this. Perhaps that "some other way" is to continue using the unofficial windower.

I had to turn the gamma down to 0.5 to stop myself being blinded, i think it worked... but when i logged back on it was overcast, I'm going to stay away from valk though.

I only played around with the windowed mode for a few minutes before I left the house this morning, but it looked like it was actually attempting some color correction for some bizarre reason. Speaking in terms of HSB, the brightness seemed to be less generally, but the saturation seemed like it was a bit more. Dunno for sure though, I'll have to play with it more.

you need to adjust your color contrast and brightness to fix that problem...

Is there a way to change that just for the game?

If you're talking about changing that on my monitor, that aint gonna happen. There's no reason I should have to make everything else on my system look like a dark alley just to adjust to a change in FFXI that isn't even present when running in normal full-screen mode.

LL, if you're using an ATI card, you should be able to use ATI Tray Tools to create a custom color profile for when that launches. I can't remember if it has the ability to reset the profile when it closes though.

There's an nVidia equivalent out there, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called.

I am a little bit offended that Allakhazam made a post saying that "You heard it here first." on the new Windower, when obviously I provided information for Dreams in Vana'diel first. That was clearly a 50 minute difference in that. :p
Though I did have to upload pictures later that night, the point was that I did indeed make the post 1st.
Ok, enough bumping my ego, back to whatever everyone else was doing!

P.S. Yes I do realize that I should have made this post several days ago, but I didn't want to derail what everyone was talking about before. Gamma corrections are needed for using the Windower immensely for everyone around.

Well, damn it. With the official windower, full screen mode, or the unofficial windower (older copy), I'm laggy. This is frustrating.

I know this sounds retarded, but did you restart your comp? My whole pc had been sluggish as hell since I started updating last night, didn't matter if I had ffxi running or not. I shut everything down and restarted and so far everything is back up to speed. I'll have to check it again with ffxi running in AU tonight, but it certainly helped the rest of the pc.

That should automatically be Step #1 for any troubleshooting guide that involves Windows.

I know, but everyone brain farts now again, more often than not for me. Its still good all around advice. Hell, it fixes 90% of the problems with machines at work.
