    What if it's Mystic Knight?
Scholars also have the use of "charges" to store actions up.

I think FFXI could benefit from a little more ease of use. I, too, have gotten along fine, but it hasn't been without its bumps. Just because we've both been okay with the way it plays doesn't mean it's perfect, without flaws, or undeserving of some more polish and convenience.

All that aside, none of the plugin additions, if made official are going to hurt this game. I'm just tired of people playing the "Square Enix doesn't want to make the game too easy" card. Polishing the interface and making a few things easier to read or pay attention to isn't going to make the monsters easier. It's not going to speed up our travel time. It isn't going to net us more money per auction house sale. It's not like we're getting a free ride just because we can see how long a buff has before it runs out or whatever.

Venting aside, I'm excited for the expansion and all its potential. Hopefully the official windower is a sign of many more great things

(Didn't mean to come down on anyone, just throwing my dice out there)
I kinda see your point, but I really don't see how having a readout of everyone's TP is necessary, given how easy it is to write a TP macro. Why else would the <callxx>'s exist, but to draw attention to those types of things? Chat filters are readily available to turn off less important things to easily focus on the "important" information, as well as color coding. It's also easy to see how much MP someone has by looking at their bar...maybe not an exact figure but easy enough to determine whether to pull or not, or explain why they are not being cured when the main heal is tapped.

Buff timers, etc are a cool thing to have, but also not necessary. Maybe SE will introduce one at some point, who knows? The point I'm trying to make is that a lot of people have justified these 3rd party tools by saying "I need to Window", but I'm willing to bet that the majority have just become too used to all these "cheats". Windowing to check the internet is one thing...using windower so that you can see all this information that you wouldn't normally see is something else entirely.

Honestly, I never had a problem with the PC version. There was a learning curve, obviously, but nothing any more complicated then any other game I've played, unless you count Tetris and simplistic things like that. I had a harder time figuring out WoW then FFXI, and everyone tells me WoW is "so easy"...guess it just depends on the person.

I respect your opinions 100%, so don't think I'm trying to flame or anything. My whole point was that people need to be honest with themselves, if they are using windower for all the extras as well as windowing they need to resign themselves to the fact that if SE does decide to go after people for using it (now that an endorsed version is on the near horizon) and they get banned, then well, that sucks, but it's their own fault. Is it worth the risk? To me no, but to each their own...

Yea I know. I have to admit though, I cringe everytime I click on the windower executable... go figure it's just me being paranoid I guess. You're probably right... I will stop using third party software once the patch is here though.

You gotta admit though, had the windower makers wanted to, they could steal so many accounts... and nothing's really stopping them.

Forgive me for my impudence, Mr. Admin, but you are not looking at the big picture.

Previously, a Job's Skill levels were something that were, more or less, set in stone: the only real way to manipulate them would be to use some skill boosting gear, or maybe Merits. If Scholar is given this new Ability to shake what is known about Skill levels, albeit only for White and Black Magic, what's to stop more Abilities from following it in the future? I mean, whole skill levels! That's, like, +20 Skill, without equipment!

          NOW imagine the possibilities!

Re: Official Windower announced at Fan Festival 2007

I have little "add-ons" but I rarely use them. For one thing, I keep forgetting to boot them up before starting my FFXI!! Old age sucks! lol But I'm so used to playing the game for all these years that it doesn't even bother me. About the only thing I can NOT live without, and is something SE should take care of, is the .dat mod that makes the call sounds quieter or shuts them off entirely! I play in a room with 2 other people so we all wear headsets or it would be a noisefest. So calls in macros drive me absolutely insane! I'm also prone to migraines and have gotten a couple from pullers with <call> in their pulling macros! So this is a must have but SE should have an option for this in the darn game.

Another .dat change I absolutely LOVE is the icons one. I know this is probably silly but the HP regen and MP regen icons look so much the same that it wouldn't take SE much to spice them up a bit. But since they won't, I go elsewhere for that and I'm glad I do. I also enjoy some of the other icons that are in the pack also but those 2 are the ones I was glad to have changed the most!

All in all, I could care less about any add on's. I am skilled enough that I don't need to know the % of health of pt members, I can make a simple TP macro and wait for others to post theirs, and believe it or not I actually prefer to use most of the maps in game and put markers on them. So windowed mode will be just fine for me..........until those darn guys who make the windower come out with some doohickey that I can't live without! LOL

Re: Official Windower announced at Fan Festival 2007

I too only use Windower to just window...

              And TParty.
              And Distance Plugin
              And DrawDistance

But I still only use to window.

Seriously though, people are still going to use the unofficial windower because the SE one won't have the plugins people want. Does that make them cheaters? Not unless they are using windower to actually cheat.

As for myself, I'll have to try the official windower to see what it's like and decide from there if it's going to be worth it to stop using the unofficial version.

              P.S. Get fraps.

So will this let us cheat like the unofficial windower ppl do? Stuff like auto-sort, distance number thing, time stamp for camping nms, etc.

Re: Official Windower announced at Fan Festival 2007

It honestly cracks me up that people refer to some of these things as cheats. My opinionative defintion of a cheat is something that gives you a severe advantage to the game and hinders the play of other characters by doing so. I'm not one to endorse all those add-ons, but if someone is using a non-game-breaking addon that shows them when they need to rebuff me or how much TP I have, and we end up being a sliver more efficient than we would because of it, I'm not going to frown on them. The plugins do what the game already does, just better and smarter. FFXI purists, I don't have any problems with you, and I'm glad you've adjusted to the game the way you have. But if someone is using a non-harmful add-on (that's doing something that's already in the game) that's making their experience a hair less stressful and not adversely hindering everyone else's play, go for it. It's really a non-issue to me.

I used to use Distance as a RNG.

Then I read Learn2Play and now I use the radar rings.

But yeah, when I get back on my account for winter break, I'll be very excited. Yay!

I only read Playboy for the articles.

Heh, seriously though, I actually quit using windower a while ago. Having windowed mode was nice, but when I heard that SE was making their own I just decided to call it quits and wait until the official windowed mode was released. I could never actually figure out how to use the plugins and all that, and no one ever explained it to me.

Re: Official Windower announced at Fan Festival 2007

I so very much love alt-tabbing out the game at times (as I write this post, I'm in the game ), and yes, I do use (and srsly LOVE TO DEATH) plug-ins like Distance, Recast (omg ), TParty, and EXPWatch (also, the IRC-like chat time stamp thingy is cool), and none of them are anything that I couldn't do already through some method that already exists in the game, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna waste my time being inefficient spamming recast macros, clogging my chat box (and having to open it up to check back to catch the wall of text that just flew by), guessing when people are gonna WS or whatnot (it's been YEARS since anyone on Kujata used a TP macro that I've seen), or open my menu every time I get the urge to find out what my TNL is (and I hate doing t3h maths ).

I've played since NA PC release, and for the longest time, until I heard about (and eventually used) Windower, the one thing that bugged me was the fact that I had to turn off practically everything in the background to play this game. When I booted up Windower for the first time, it was like I got my PC back again. I eventually got into actually using the plug-ins too; some I liked, some I didn't, and some I just didn't have any use for. But to be honest, I'd much rather have these on my HUD than having to take time to dig thru menus or spamming macros that might not work cuz of lag when I could be killing the monster instead. If someone else doesn't want that, that's kewl, more power to them. However, *my* interface will work for me, not against me.
