Scholar only White and Black magics, probably too high for use when subbing. limited power when not /whm and /blm. May aswell sub RDM and not bother with the hasso like Grimorie's (unless you are a rdm then just lv scholar coz you nkow their AF pwns you!)

I think you misread. The job is built completely around the Grimoires. Unlike RDM you can't be good at black and white magic at the same time as a Scholar; you have to switch if you seriously want to cast the other kind of spell. Furthermore, these abilities boost magic skills, which would apply regardless of what your main job is; thus, RDM/SCH using Black Grimoire wouldn't have A+ Enfeebling, it'd have OMG SSS+ GOLD Enfeebling. Likewise BLM and Elemental Magic.
Not to mention, I really doubt that Scholar will have Refresh. -- Pteryx
They would pretty much have to not have refresh and convert... having 80-90% (just a guess) the power of *both* whm and blm only a JA activation away means if they aren't limited by MP, they aren't limited by anything.
Although, conversely, I wonder how SE is planning to keep them from becoming the release RDMs, not good enough at anything to bother inviting one. They eventually solved that problem for RDM by introducing RDM unique spells (dispel, refresh) and convert, creating the Energizer Bunny Mage we all know and love. But repeating that trick would be lame, so they have to do something else.
It definitely sounds like a cool idea, but a lot will depend on precisely how it works: which spells they get, which ones are grimoire-specific (having your stona or silena behind a grimoire-change lock could be Very Bad, effectively stopping you from changing out of WG for that whole fight), what are the effects of grimoires on the "right" magic and whether or not they transfer to /SCH.
. . . This will probably be the job that steals me from Red Mage. Probably.
Probabilities are numbers between 1 and 0, inclusive, and they indicate the proportion (not percent) of the times a certain event may occur within a large number of tests. That's a rough memory of the definition of probability from my Statistics class, at least.
The fact that I even take a Statistics class shows that I'm a maths geek, plain and simple. Which is why Scholar may be up my alley. This is depending on the exact specs of the job, of course.

However much I am actually smart, I got that way by confronting how stupid I am.

Don't forget though that Scholar is coming out of the gate with a lot more than RDM did. Unique spells to change weather effects on PT members, super DoT, JA storage. There are a bunch of unused spell animations (Aqua, Ignis, Aera, Terra, Baraqua, Barignis, Bararea, Barterra, -ra versions of those bar-spells, Libra(Scan), Brave, Faith, etc etc) all of which could end up as the Scholar only spell.
How many already existing applications of the weather effect are there? Triggering obis and relic legs seem like a pretty strong and obvious options for blms. Relic horn for smns. Monsoon/Hailstorm Tekkos add a pretty decent amount of acc and the kyahan in the set might be a reasonable footpiece for nin. Desert Boots are a triggerable raptor mazurka but at 62 ..
Weather also boosts Skillchains and MBs, and improves the accuracy of key enfeebles (hi2u Acid Bolt?) and has the potential to gimp deadly magic attacks (Incinerate.)
But S-E will probably be stupid about this and only let them change weathers that aren't Aurora or Gloom. Still, it'd be really nice.
Edit: Also, doesn't weather affect crafting, like the days do?
I'm liking how SE is continuing the exotic job designs they started in ToA, the ToA and WotG jobs truly seem to function unlike the 15 jobs that preceded them. I love the subjob potential I see in Scholar and I'll probably pick this one up on my Taru since I already have full RDM, BLM and WHM subs at my disposal there. If the weather effects are pre-sub, it could make for another nice COR sub for boosting Quick Draw.
The weather effects bit reminds me of one of my job concepts from a couple months ago. Its good to see that they're adding more and rather unique forms of mage support to the game beyond what exists with COR's mage buffs. Prior to COR there wasn't any real support for mages beyond a couple Etudes, Refresh and Ballad, very nice to see more support magic for mages is coming.
Perhaps SE's plan for the burn situation is to expand the jobs that can participate in mage/support activities rather than just tack on more tanks and melees. As it stands, the bulk of endgame is still rather dependant on BLMs and that really shouldn't be, expanding the mage line up could resolve that a bit.
PUPs have already entered the manaburn world post-August update and COR has gradually become a fixture in manaburn and endgame BLM PTs. Scholar would be another sound addition and the ability to switch to healer support as needed means things could be made easier on WHM, RDM and particularly SMN.
I'm interested to see how scholar would pan out as a WHM sub, White Grimorie could reduce some of the strain put on WHM's MP.
First came the normal jobs, then the advanced jobs, these new jobs seem to be the odd-twist jobs, the jobs that might just turn FFXI into a whole new game from what it used to be.
There is potential atleast.
Stoneskin at 40%? ... I cant begin to fathom the benefits.
