Interesting. I guess they figure that HNM's will handle holders themselves.

I first thought this was going to affect EXP mobs and Bards holding 4+ mobs in line.

It could also be that they're changing how HNMs appear via the expansion. I do seem to remember Behmoths rampaging all over Tavnazia in the intro and maybe Faffy, Nidogg and Aspid had other places to romp about during the war.

SE did say that depending on past events, things would change in the future zones.

So what if you killed Faffy before he ever started chilling in Dragon's Aery? He clearly would not show up 20 years later, I'd think.

They weren't rampaging, they were used by the Beastmen Forces.

He gets killed every day, and has been killed every day for how many years now? Ok, it's an exaggeration but you get the point.

Really, I think you're taking that change the past too far. If it changed that much what Wings is is not an expansion but a whole new game.

Is the timed rage thing actually effective against holding in practice?

I get the feeling reading this that it's not really a change in GM behavior; they're just going public with the fact that they haven't been paying attention to holding on those specific HNMs (hopefully, because they've been seeing that the rage thing works and they don't really need to, but I obviously have no idea).

It is essentially a worthless update. The previous policy was if that a group was intentionally holding a HNM to delay it's pop time for the next night, then GMs would get involved. If they were holding it just trying to rally their troops to the zone, GMs let it go. Either way the Rage mode effectively eliminates them from holding the mob too long for either reason, anyone who's ever seen KB rage can attest to this, it's really not the kind of thing you recover from if the mob is higher than 5%.

Basically it went from the GMs sitting back and watching you wipe with a rule in place that if the Rage mode failed somehow, they would get involved, to being the GMs sitting back and watching you wipe with no rule in place that they need to get involved.

                        Re: GM Policy Update

Personally this issue irritates me more than any other. Last night at 2 AM I watch a group of 5 hold Khimiari for over 30 minutes dealing only 5% damage (mostly through Bio). At the rate they were going it would of been a 5 hour kill.

I understand the GM's stance on the issue, they got claim, they are killing it (slowly). But from a player stance, someone has to stick around and get the ToD. Fine we lost claim, but I don't want to stick around for 5 hours through the early morning hours to get the ToD.

I think this issue could be resolved if mobs had a rage timer based on damage done over time. If you deal less than 10% damage in 30 minutes, it goes into a mini-rage and starts becoming resistant to enfeebles and such. That, or come up with a better way of claiming the mobs so that the party that gets it will be the party prepared to deal with it in a timely fashion.

I wonder what GMs do in their spare time, they probably have their own private sky island in Vana'diel where they play volleyball and write up adlibs out of sequence.
