    Re: Dancers, Maidens of the Battlefield (10/22/2007)

    and Mystic Knight is from San D'oria (the fabled mix of "magic and blade" that enabled Sandy to rise to near total domination).
    When put that way isn't that kinda what Geomancer is? Combat mages who use weapons and spells? Classic FF Geomancers are normally axe/sword using mages with medium to weak spell damage, just lots of added effects. So yeah, when stated like that Geomancer seems more in line for Sandy.

    If by "nice" you mean "taking a several steps backward to archaic MMORPG design" then yes, its a "nice" twist.
    Well, you have to admit there is something to archaic MMORPG designs that keeps people coming back for more.

    Myself personally, I wouldn't mind seeing some gender specific jobs, or heck national/race specific jobs. I also wouldn't mind seeing national/race specific spells and abilities. I want there to be more of a difference in what nation/race you are other than how the national storyline plays out, no matter how good.

    You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

    I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

      Re: Dancers, Maidens of the Battlefield (10/22/2007)

      I think it's worth pointing out that in all the emphasis on Dancer being the role of women on the battlefield in the Crystal War, there's a pretty solid presumption of every other job present at the time being the roles of men on the battlefield. Other jobs have other restrictive-seeming flavor (Dark Knight is essentially a Galkan job, Ranger is a Mithran tradition, traditional mage jobs may once have been the exclusive province of the Tarutaru) which has not translated into restrictions on who can occupy those jobs as Adventurers. In fact, Adventurers tend to be the grand exception to any social or circumstantial restrictions on jobs, with Blue Mages unaffiliated with the Empress' guard running around, and Corsairs wandering the streets of Al Zahbi in full AF.

      I don't think what's been released so far is sufficient reason to presume the job is intended to be gender-restricted when applied to adventurers.

        The theme of Bastok from the beginning has been German. As a matter of fact, you can see the theme of each general area of interest in the game.

        Bastok = Germany
        San d'Oria = Medeval France
        Windurst = Central Africa
        Aht Urghan = Middle East
        Far East = Japan
        Tsyaha (Mithran nation far to the south) = Southern America (or possibly Southern Africa, deep jungles)
        Nation to the Far West = Native American

        Jeuno seems to be an exception, but if I had to classify it, it seems to resemble Victorian Age England (at least to me) to an extent. The Orcish/Gigas Empire to the north is rather limited in info to make any kind of correlation, but I could imagine it being too uncivilized and barbaric to be classified properly (perhaps it's like Siberia?).

        Just how I've been noticing it over the past few years. SE-released official fiction tends to follow that pattern, at least.

          Excellent points: and let's not forget Dragoon and Summoner, which are extinct and forbidden respectively in the normal world, but open to any adventurer who completes the quests.

            Where did you dig up the name for the Mithran homeland?

            Also, Bastok seems a lot more like Colonial America to me personally, or around that time period. I agree with San d'Oria seeming like france, but a friend of mine insists it's more like Spain was (monarchy, powerful, and against change)

            Then again, he also sees Windurst as Europe since it's the cultural learning center of the world, where as I see it resembling feudal Japan (all the warring taru tribes and their lords came together under a holy leader after ages of bloody strife. Sound familiar?)

            Last point I want to make is that as was discussed in the job concept and my own thread a while back, Mystic Knight is nothing like Geomancer. When we say mixing magic and swords, me mean it literally. It's not casting and slashing, it's turning your very sword into the spell ^^b

              And your point is? If it was archaic or not is irrelevant as long as it fits the story, is well implemented and enjoyable to play.

              Even so, I seriously doubt SE would add gender-restricted jobs so far into the game's life, but still think it would be interesting to see.

                Its an island south of Aht Urghan. However one of the NPCs in the Second and First Lieutenant quests, Yasmeel, is a Hume F from that island so I dont think its the Mithra Homeland. General Mihli is also from this island.

                President Naja from the Island of Zwha, also south of Aht Urghan. Naja is also a Princess of the island as well. (You have to ask her man-slave about her to get that juicy bit of info.) Her real last name is Zhwan, the name of the royal family. Its more likely this is the Mithra Homeland.

                  According to this, the Island (lolcontinent) of Tsahya is the Mithran homeland.

                      Friend of mine that used to play showed it to me many months ago. Looks real. All I know is what you get from the link.
                      This, from what I'm told, was shown at a JP (go figure... they never tell us anything directly) gaming expo. This would be the completely world of Vana'diel. Of note to some people, the Island of Tsahya is the home land of the Mithra. Also, the other continents are often mentioned in passing in various places in the game.

                      Something notable is that there are dots on the map that one would assume represent cities (big ones with MHs). There 15 of these in the unreleased areas. Pretty incredibly considering we've only seen 5.

                          Sadly its a fake. Someone on KI made it (http://www.killingifrit.com/forums.p...332220#3332220 , if that doesn't link properly, sorry its KIs fault) posts in there mention who made it. Still an interesting thread none the less.

                            Mithra are ferocious. If this is female specific, and in turn they release a male specific job, I think mithra should be capable. ^_~

                              Will no one think of the galka with all this gender specific job talk?
