    Security Measure Changes

In an effort to improve the security of services under PlayOnline, the minimum number of characters that can be used as a PlayOnline password will change.

During the maintenance held between Oct. 3, 2007 and Oct. 5, 2007, the following requirements will be added for passwords on both the Friend List Plus and Linkshell Community sites:
    - Passwords must be 8 characters or more.
    - Passwords that are the same as your PlayOnline ID will not be accepted.
Please note that if your password does not meet these requirements, you will be unable to log in to either the Friend List Plus or Linkshell Community beta version sites.

For those unable to log in after these requirements are added, please log in to the PlayOnline Viewer in order to update your password. Please be aware that your new password must meet the above requirements. Changing your PlayOnline password can be performed through the "Service & Support" screen which can be accessed from the PlayOnline Menu. Choose "Membership," select "PlayOnline ID," and then select "Change Password."

In the near future, these password requirements will be added to the PlayOnline Viewer as well. Please be sure to update your PlayOnline password as soon as possible if it does not meet the above stated requirements.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

Just let use set a separate username and password for Friend list plus and Linkshell community via POL-viewer and get it over with.

It's a good precaution but I don't see how it's going to change much.

Majority of people who got their accounts "hacked" downloaded keylogger or trusted the wrong guy with their account info.

It's in response to a certain person who exploited those who didn't change their passwords after they were reset by SE. And please, do not start a war on here, I'm just saying.

          Re: PlayOnline Security Measure Changes

Sooooooooooo, it would have been nice to have been sent a email about this. Seeing as, I can't log into ANYTHING to do with ffxi or POL now.

A friend of mine said the same thing happened to him, yet, he was sent a email from Square Enix with his new password. I was not. I have no phone to contact POL at all, and I want my new password now. This is rediculoud. Why not send out a mass email to let people know that you are going to change our passwords on us without our concent? Would this not be against our user-agreement with Square Enix/PlayOnline/FFXI?

Anyway's, I want some help with this situation, because I need to be reassured that the error messages are not true, and that my Content ID"s were not deleted along with my password being changed without my Knowlege.

          Thank you,
          Tokie.

SE have the right to do anything to your account, at any time. That is what you signed up for. It is in the EULA. There were plenty of warnings that this change WAS going to happen - there has been at least 2 messages from POL, accesible through the viewer and on POL website. We cannot help you here - we are not SE. You will have to contact them somehow, and unfortunately the easiest way is to ring them.

If SE changed your password as part of this, they would not delete your content IDs.

Yea I know all this. Didn't say you were either. I am just stating it's pretty stupid for this to happen to someone. And oooooo Web Sites.... Not everyone has the time to check these web sites, and it would make A LOT more sense to be sent an email about this kind of issue. That's what I am trying to say.

                Re: PlayOnline Security Measure Changes

Well, unless you are logged in 24/7 (which is pretty daft tbh), these messages also appear in the POL viewer, the latest one is always very obvious on the screen. So, really, there is no excuse for not seeing them. It is just a case of a couple of mouse clicks.

And the way you demanded help with your situation seemed to imply we could do something to help you - which of course, we can't. I'm afraid you are just going to have to find a way to ring them.
