Gender-only jobs are extremely alien to main-series FF.

What's more is two men were dancing behind the hume woman dancing in Sand'oria. So I highly doubt there won't be a male version, as it goes directly against the design of the game to make race/gender restriction. They may as well start making race-only jobs if they do that.

Its also entirely possible the male version of the AF just hasn't been finished yet and its more attractive to showcase a female dancer anyway.

Zazarg is in the trailer. Now messing with the past not only will mess with the allied nations, but Aht Urghan as well
He's not going back in time with us.

And who called Atomos! Looks like its more of a monster/Gate to something else rather than a summon. Oh well.
Atomos was originally a boss in FFV and later added to the GBA/Wonderswan remakes of Final Fantasy. He was only ever a summon in FFIX. I'd say our chances of getting Odin are higher than being able to summon a giant black hole with teeth

I'm more interested in that Cait Sith looking thing. He's been a mob in other games prior to FFVII, sometimes a Coreul-type, but in myths he's also a spirit of mischief. I can't really think of what else that could be but Cait Sith. A spirit of michief seems appropriate for this expansion.

I I know SE wrote up Imps as part of the Dark Lord's forces during the Great War, but shame on SE for putting them in Xacabard anyway. They need to toughen those things up or ToA tardburn PTs will continue.

Well they're cowards by nature.... so cowards are like tarutaru smn/nins, nothing but squishy people with the tainted Cowardice of the Ark Angel ;3

The Dancer woman is obviously part of the story (either missions or AF, or both), and you might as well keep the same model throughout the trailer for consistency's sake. The male AF does probably look different (though Elvaans aren't afraid of showing some mid-section), but you might as well keep it simple and stay with one model. And yeah, women models are prettier.

This trailer is a nice example of what I love about FFXI: the cinematic quality. SE knows how to make their cutscenes and trailers kick ass. Or maybe it's just because the music made me think of Battlestar Galactica. And damn, it looks like every character of the original game will play a part in this expansion.

I didn't even notice the new weaponskills, for some reason. I'm assuming they're just new WSNMs. Here's hoping Archery and Marksmanship get something to compete with Slugwinder. The rose one looks awesome... sword gets all the cool effects.

I'm also glad I'm not the only one who thought "Cait Sith" at the end. I assume I'm not the only one who threw up a little.

I took it to be a different incarnation of Cait Sith. Before he was Reeve's alter ego in FFVII, he was mob in the other games. He's also a spirit of mischief in Celtic Mythology, sometimes also considered a transformed witch, hence Cait Sith's sudden Scottish accent in Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus

No duh, lighten up, it was a joke. Its obvious this is during one of his missions while he was in the Bastok Army. (The cronies are the exact same Hume Male models as they the ones in his Serpent General Quest)

And you know, I really could go on about how mages are predominately female in FF games, but from reading these forums over the last 4 years, getting into an argument with you is like sticking your hand in an activated blender, stupid and pointless.

I'm not looking for an arguement here, but that's a nice way to try to start an argument, yet walking away knowing you're going to lose

I'll keep it brief. Three games do not account for a "predominant" portion of the series. FFIV, FFIX and FFX are all you have there. FFT games were handled by the Tactics Ogre team, along with FFXII. FFXII dropped gender specific elements to be more in-line with the main series and the trends that started in FFV.

Since FFV, the series has maintained very customizable character building. But roles like WHM, BLM, SMN and such have become homoginized abilities any character could have, with the exception of FFIX and XI. FFX had "jobs" but I could make Yuna a DD beast and Tidus a WHM, it was just thier Overdrives that were character-specific more than they were characters with specific jobs.

As far as speculation about the cat being Cait Sith goes, it should be noted that the Stray Esper from FFVI was called Cait Sith in the original Japanese.

Oh, and the surroundings in that scene looked very much like the inside of a protocrystal, too.

My own speculation: Atomos is a non-summonable terrestrial avatar much like Bahamut, and his domain is time. Like any terrestrial avatar, he wants to keep Vana'diel alive, so sucked adventurers into the past to tilt the scales. Since the Crystal War was won by our perspective, that makes this a stable time loop.

What I want to see addressed is the plot hole that is having BLUs and SMNs that aren't Karaha-Baruha in the Crystal War. CORs at least are seafarers, and PUP could really have been introduced with CoP -- it's just that CoP PUPs call their automatons mannequins. ;p -- Pteryx

Am I the only one that broke out laughing when it said "The federation will fall on the morrow!"?

Still, BEAUTIFUL trailer. MUCH better than the COP and TAU trailers I remember.

It was pretty kickass, as game trailers go. Certainly as FFXI trailers go.

Oh, also, in the rare event that anyone cares...

The website simply says you need "the latest version" of Windows Media Player to view the trailer. The video is encoded using WMV9, so you can view it with version 9, no need to upgrade to 10 if you haven't/can't (a few of us are still on Win2K after all). Moreover, I'm pleased to notice that libavcodec, a free software decoder library used by MPlayer and ffmpeg, now has native support for WMV9, so you can even watch it in GNU/Linux without messing with Win32 codec support and WMP codecs.

The real URL to the large version is http://dl.square-enix.co.jp/ffxi/DL_US/US_LARGE.wmv and the other movies are in the same place with fairly guessable names.

Can get the Japanese versions of the trailers easily enough by replacing both occurrences of US with JP.

HD version seems to be a bit too much for my computer to handle...

Maybe I need to reboot again...

Edit: Nevermind, looks like it can handle playing it locally once downloaded, it just can't keep up with streaming it.
