    Why not both? >_>; If i'm gonna loose ni as a puller and thf soloer in your logic, either 1) make thf's godly evasion even more godly, or 2) break vit x2 = 1def to 1 vit = 5 def <_<;

I 100% agree. That and any of the mail family armor, thats limited to pld/war/drk/bst/nin/sam should shifted for drg and nip out nin

Hmm. I would like to mix Karinya and Armando's ideas, and add more.
      • Make Copy Image effectiveness based on Ninjutsu skill of the caster--no reason why a single swipe from a giant can't take two or three images in one stroke if the image caster isn't skilled, right?
      • At the same time, do make defense slightly more useful--not to the point where a one ton critter 5 level above a PLD hits for 10 dmg a strike, but a little more differentiation would be nice.
      • What I would also like to see is a form of martial arts defense skill beyond Guard. One aspect of the "Drunken Punch" style's defense is about damage absorption by skillfully spreading the impacts from blows out through space and time (no, it's not relativity). Think of it as variable percentage Jelly Ring; procs on every hit, just a matter of % damage down. Of course, it probably shouldn't go to PLD. MNK or some new martial arts job may be a good candidate. Call it... "Impact Absorb". Or something.
      • More forms of counter. Right now, it seems like Counter is sort of out of the blue, and not connected with anything. How about a little riposte? Sacrifice punch? Strike intercept? I propose "Counter on Evade", "Counter on Parry", "Counter on Guard", etc. Oh, and make counter a skill(s) instead of a trait; it's kinda silly that a WAR/MNK with two-handed axe counter just as well as a MNK/WAR in the jungles, only for more damage.
      • Nerf March and Haste gears. As Karinya said, the combination of available Haste plus Utsusemi together has been game breaking.
      Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
      yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
leaving no trace in the water.

Disagree with nerfing gear, its not easy (or easily affordable) to get a good haste build and you'd be screwing every person that made an effort to earn it in the process. It has a broader application than Utsusemi.

All the same, I don't think its a good idea or fair to single out BRD's March, either. If you're gonna nerf Haste spells, it needs to be across the board, but then, BLU's haste is generally a self haste, how is nerfing that one even close to being fair? And what of Hasso? Dual Wield gear? Garuda Hastega? And what if Time Mage is coming, that would pretty much mean COR was getting a haste buff, nerf that out the gate, too?

I think Haste is definately going to see nerfaga if Time Mage becomes a reality because Time Magic would be what they should excel at. But I don't think BRD should be an exclusive target.

I'm sorry to take this wonderful thread about DEF and tanking off topic, but I just wanted to gaggle at the Expansion's website.

First off, the monsters look amazing from the screenshots they have up. Pixies (in the Highlands?) have just the right mix of adorableness and creepy, and they just look amazing. It is going to be a pity if they turn out to be a popular exp mob, I don't know if I could bear to kill something so cute.

The Gnats (definately in the Highlands this time) are rather titchy looking, and I am guessing they'll be hideable like chigoe currently are.

The Sandworm is just amazingly rendered as well, and looks pretty gigantic. I'm excited about getting it in pankration =D.

The Battle Beastmen are looking pretty neat, esp. the Yagudo with the big pointy horns. Again, just some seriously awesome graphics, IMHO.

The Ochu has been renamed Rafflesia, since we already have some Malboro Ochus, and the Basilisk is the Pieste.

Next bit I'm gonna look at is the Pictures, or Truth Shrouded in History. Many of the screenshots are from the movie, so forgive me if I mention things repeatedly.
Our way of getting from the past to the future is shown, in Cavernous Maws, which have popped up all over Vana'diel. Interestingly, they look like Baby Atomos! Maybe Atomos is taking us back in time to battle in the crystal war, cause he's all mysterious and benevolent and such. Or maybe he's just a manwhore.

Featured prominantly in a photo, and also in the movie is a Mithra with a really big bow. Important NPC in WotG?

There is also a cute picture of a party (WAR, BLM, WHM, RDM, MNK and THF, all in full AF, which makes my fanboy heart do a little whee) looking at the Meteor, near what appears to be one of the Jeuno gates.

Sandy's Choco Knights are all pimping the Black Chocos, cept for their leader, which has a nifty red one. The TGS movie made me fall in love with this little group, even if their country is made of lose.

Kid Trion is adorable, and his sword is pretty damn nifty looking. Could it be Lightbringer, perhaps?

Moving on to Dancer, it looks very pretty. In one picture it shows a Female flanked by two male Dancers, and they appear to be wearing different costumes, although that could just be cause they're backup dancers. I really don't want male DNC to get a different AF, cause the female one looks stunning. Interestingly, they have yet to show us a Male Dancer in AF. I do hope this does not mean that it will be a female only job, I think I might cry if that were to happen. The concept art of Dancer is just adorable as well, I wanna get a bigger copy so I can set it as my background.

The movie had too much to even think about, so I'm gonna just list a few things that went through my head when I saw it.

Nifty seeing an unruined Castle Zvhals Baileys. The Shadow Lord looks as nifty as ever, and I hope we don't have to

The shots of the new landscapes look beautiful. In Particular, Rolanberry Fields totally destroyed affected me for some reason. it just looked so decrepit and dead.
The Champions of Dawn make me squee, because, as always, I love the image of the Oldschool FF team together.

Windurst looks totally trashed, but IIRC it was nearly completely destroyed during the war. Fenrir was totally awesome, and I'm wondering if we'll have small scale besieged like events in each of the major cities in the past, cause that would be awesome.

The first Dancer shot was definitely in Lufaise Meadows, and I'm wondering if we'll be able to walk to Tavnazia now, and see its greatness.

I REALLY hope that that blue.... thing is not the male Dancer AF, cause.... EWWWW. The Dancer moves look pretty damn awesome, as do the (new?) Weapon Skill animations shown.

Kam'lanaut uniting the nations is shown, and I forgot how pretty the Star Sybil is.
Wow, a lot of these scenes are kinda sad, knowing how they turn out for the people involved (See: The Galka Manly Handshake that is in no way anything other than two Heterosexual Galkas showing friendship. Seriously.) I'm glad that we get to see the Tonberry Assassians as well, that was always an interesting storyline to me. I wonder if we'll see other Beastmens perspectives, such as the Sahagin, who mostly stayed neutral in the war.

The scene with Atomos is awesome, but something I noticed that others may not have. Next to the Elvaan looking up at Atomos, is that a revamped Cait Sith/Stray? Cause he would be a fucking amazing avatar!

All in all, I'm hella pumped up for this expansion now, and it will be very interesting to see how things unfold.

wow that viseo is like smex+1 on the goodness scale!

All the new monsters look great, the areas look so nice and trashed, these defences i pray are for the city seiges (Though the history so far doesn't tell much of the seige's themselves only the major battles and of windy allmost getting wiped out)

This is because current standards are COMPLETELY BATSHIT INSANE. I can't put it any clearer than that. The game was never designed for infinite chains or 4-DD parties. It has quite literally been badly broken for years. PLD and even WAR tank as well or better now than they did at release, and lots of people leveled to quite high levels before NIN even existed. Blood tanking *is* good - it's just not ridiculously godlike, and that *is* the current standard. But SE has it in their power to *change* the standard.
But the way things work now (and the way SE handled Aht Urgan) it seems PLD is in a position where either they get better at dealing with damage taken or they will be relegated even more into the wannabeDD/wannabeBackup healer role they are now. Which is why I stoppped playing PLD a long time ago.
Yes, it's up to SE to fix the game so that players are no longer used to walking all over everything with complete invincibility, and/or are no longer used to getting godly exp for killing things that can't fight back. That's what I've been saying for years now. Despite all the awesomeness in the trailer, this is the one thing making me seriously think twice about coming back. Easy fights that make tanks and healers optional are Not Cool, and when they give double the exp/hr of hard fights, that's even worse.
Also, if a taru BST gets one shotted or not has nothing to do with PLD and their way of tanking.
Yes it does - unless you're saying that you've seen PLD get one shotted by the same attacks, then *defense matters*. It just doesn't allow you to totally ignore attacks the way Utsusemi does.

There's no amount of armor that's going to be permanent Sentinel - and there shouldn't be. There shouldn't be a spell that negates hundreds of damage per cast for 0 MP with a 45 second recast either - but there is.

As far as Haste and Utsusemi, I wonder if simply stopping Haste from doubling as Fast Cast would solve a lot of that problem. (Time Mage, if it exists, could get a buff that *does* give Fast Cast... but only after level 40 so you'd have to have a TIM main in party, and there's little FC gear and less that's available to most jobs that want to abuse Utsusemi.) Haste would remain useful for a lot of jobs (even NIN, since their damage contributes to their hate) but wouldn't make it easier to reach the point where you can replenish shadows faster than the monster can deplete them and you stop getting hit completely (a point which I firmly believe shouldn't exist - making shadows not have a 100% chance of stopping an attack is just the simplest way to ensure this.)
Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses

Kinda nitpicky, but heterosexual doesn't seem like the right word to apply to a Galka. Heterogender maybe? Not sure. The game's rigid avoidance of homosexuality/same-gender relationships does make for some conceptual awkwardness: Galka have no sex and no sex drive. But they are emotional and capable of falling in love. But they can only fall in love with females... Does seem like something that wasn't fully thought out.

FTFY. The game has no problem with homosexuals, anyone who's ever been to San d'Oria or seen someone in a subligar could tell you that.

                        1) That Mithra with the bow was Chieftainess Perih Vashai

                        2) No, that's not Lightbringer.

                        3) We've all seen the disastrous results of nerfing by SE, please do not encourage it. No I'm not denying Utsusemi is broken, but it shouldn't get nerfed. A tweak to it that makes it more based on Ninjutsu skill (possibly making it much stronger for NIN Main) along with the sorely needed performance boost to VIT DEF and Healing Magic would be much preferred.

You DO realize what will happen if SE nerfs Utsu or Haste right? There goes half your player base...

And I choose to take offense to the above statements being a proud straight San d'Orian who's worn his fair share of subligaria. I didn't necessarily like it, but one cannot deny their effectiveness in battle! @ . @

I agree with most of this, but like I've said before, the problem isn't really about burn parties themselves, but about the inability of regular setups to keep up with the amount of xp/hr that's become the standard now.

I love old school gameplay, but I hate grinding with a passion. So, if SE can make old school parties obtain the same results as newer setups then everything will be fine for me, as I'm not willing to go back to the 10k xp/hr days (and I'm sure most people feel that way about it xp-wise).

It doesn't in context of what was being said, he just wanted to compare him getting killed and "not complainning" about it with PLDs getting hit, one thing has nothing to do with the other as one is a tank job and the other is a solo job which can only wear light harnesses.

But still, considering that if a PLD was wearing the same gear (and had around the same defense) he would've taken a similar amount of dmg as a BST, then that points to another of PLD's problems. PLD itself should take less dmg naturally compared to another job if they are both using the same kind of armor and have similar defense rating.

Also, the main problem here isn't that defense doesn't matter (although it should have a more dramatic impact) but that you hit the so called deminishing returns cap way too early. Which leads to many other jobs taking similar amounts of dmg as the "supposed to be" tank job in the party, all this while having hundreds of points less defense than the tank him/herself.

I would have to say that the Mithra with the bow is Perih Vashai as well. The text in the video says "Lend me the light of a thousand stars". To me, that is a hint that at least in our current game, that she is blind, or it is heavily hinted that she is.

It is being heavily debated in other places that the child is probably not Trion, though who knows. The description of the young griffons is that they are Elvaan nobility who fight without the knowledge of their parents.

And as for the male Dancers outfits. They are wearing Blue Cotehardies and Noct Brais.
