Re: Current Known Issues - AUG 30

Ya, this update is so that 1 DEX = 2 Acc and 1 STR = 2 Att. And the 2 handed pDif cap was supposed to be 4.0, not 3.0.

Oh, one more thing: Sneak Attack will give 100% acc for all hits on multi-hit WSs only performed with 2 handed weapons.

The best part of this update is endless drama its created in every FFXI forum. Its been so long since so many people all got excited/upset all at once. Its like a self feeding beast. Makes for good reading.

Sev, you dusted off your DRG the very instant this change came about. Let's not kid ourselves otherwise, a lot of people did. Even I'm starting to rebuild it for as much time as its going to require to prepare.

Its nice you're happy that DRG got a boost, you don't have to let it take a backseat to RNG, WAR or NIN so much like you did before. If you want to talk "no one is ever happy" go repost that BST guy from the BG forums last week. That guy is never happy.

I'm very happy for BST, PUP and COR in particular. I'm glad two-handers got a boost, but I don't want it at the expense of other jobs I happen to enjoy. Its really that simple.

Most of all, I'm just happy to get that BRD monkey of my original character's back, its always had its shadow looming over my original character's jobs. If the two hander update still retains its potential (instead of hideously broken damage), then people won't have to turn to jobs like BRD or WAR to get merits and be welcomed in endgame.

At the same time, it shouldn't be at the expense of jobs like RNG or WAR for this to happen.

BBQ, what is "the expense of other jobs" you speak of? To my knowledge, WAR/NIN, NIN and MNK are just as strong as they were pre patch.

            Which is pretty damn strong.

Why wouldn't I? Major adjustments and I want my 4k penta thrust. The average drg is hitting pentas for about 2k, I was averaging pentas of above 2k before I quit. 2.7k being my best. Still haven't gotten it fully geared lol, I'm not gonna blow all my gil on something we all knew would get nerfed fast.

I let it take a back seat to Ranger, Warrior, Ninja not because it couldn't keep up bbq, because I was sick of the drg community for the better part whining and crying because of every little thing we didn't get.

Ah karly lol he left to play wow.

We all know S-E fails at balance, there is always one top set of jobs. Maybe if they get it right in the update it will be more balanced, but even before this rng wasn't the top merit job.

Brds will always be huge in endgame sadly BBQ, you and I know this. Brd, Pld, Nin, Blm, and now very much Cor. If it keeps its potential people will just mainly want samurai's as dd's.

It shouldn't be at the expense of anyone, but some jobs will always be better then others there is no true balance in the game, it can be 1% difference and people will still chose the higher top. Good endgame shells look at players and jobs, not just jobs and gear.

There was a change in the pDif formula that made them cap earlier.

Just common banter after an update. That occurred in WoW a lot so I just tune it out. /yawn.

They're still just as good. They saw lower numbers and the first thing they did was scream their heads off that they got nerfed, but in actuality it isn't so. Pre-patch your capped PDIF could vary between 1.6 and 2.4 (average: 2) and now it's always 2. Same thing, except you can't waste crit damage anymore. That's an improvement.

(Not only is it an improvement, it makes testing stat mods and fTP multipliers and the likes easier.)

Isn't it just "2" on TW and 1.6 to 2 on anything just a bit higher than T?

Don't know about that. In fact, it doesn't even make any sense since the damage formula never took level into account (it modifies your Attack/Defense ratio from which PDIF is calculated, yeah, but you could obtain the same results by adding more Attack.)

We'd need to test with a low level character (say, Lv.20 or so WAR) getting as many Attack buffs as possible (Minuets, Chaos Roll, Meat, Berserk) to overkill Attack on a low T mob to confirm what you're saying. There's a possibility that the 1.6 to 2.0 thing is just their Attack being uncapped.

Changing the subject somewhat, but still speaking of current known "issues", I am unable to access Grips from the AH. I had been trying to find them for a couple of days, thinking I was just blind, when some friends told me click by click where they were, but I still couldn't find them.

In the end I contacted a GM who explained that I was not the only person to have reported this and that they would "look into it, sorry for the inconvenience caused".

If this has been reported by multiple people, I'm surprised this wasn't on the list of current known issues as noted by the OP - or it might just be related to my server, who knows.

In the meantime I'm currently runnng a file check to see if there are any problems, but has anyone else encountered this problem?

I don't know how pDif would always end up as 2 for 1 handed weapons at "capped attack". That would imply 0 variance (in other words, no +/- 0.4). It could be that these players were actually getting up to 2.4 pDif (very likely against TW mobs), the game then gave the +/- 0.4 variance (giving a range of 2.0 to 2.8), and then the 1 handed cap got applied, pushing them down to 2.0.

I took RNG out to Dangruf Wadi last night, and solo'ed from level 11 to level 13. I've got the parse from that time, and there's definitely damage variance for my Axe hits.
