New Assault Missions and Mercenary Rank (08/07/2007)

In the upcoming version update, we will be adding a new promotion quest to unlock the next mercenary rank, as well as a series of exciting assault missions.

    New Mercenary Rank

The mercenary rank of "First Lieutenant" will be awarded to players who survive the grueling trials put forth by the hard-nosed drill sergeant, Rongelouts. Do you have what it takes, maggot?

    New Assault Missions

Five new missions await players who have achieved the rank of First Lieutenant.
Here's a sneak preview of what lies in store:

    Bloody Rondo

Mission Orders: After years of quietly defying Imperial rule, the recluse Count Dracula has recently begun preparations for an assault on Al Zahbi. Infiltrate the Leujoam Sanctum, locate the count, and slay him before he can execute his plans.

    The Susanoo Shuffle

Mission Orders: In an attempt to strengthen their bonds with the Mamool Ja, an eastern nation has provided the beastmen with a new biologically engineered hydra hybrid known as Orochi. You are to infiltrate the training grounds and eliminate the new threat.

I wonder if the new rank comes with the hat?

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

Not surprised at the new rank; it'll be a fairly good guess that the next ranks will be Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, and then capping off with a good ol' four-star General itself. SE was following a form of the Army/Marine enlisted rank structure, but are following the Army/Marine/Air Force commissioned ranks.

And wow at them bringing two *MAJOR* (fictitional) characters/monsters from history/mythology in as just First Lieutenant missions. Kinda makes you wonder what the higher ranks are gonna have to deal with.

        Dracula AND Orochi =O

And I doubt they'll let you get as high as four star General, because in the end you're still a soldier working for Naja. Maybe Captain or Major at best, because after about two more big updates, the expansion will take over.

Well, considering that Naja is a *President*, and that holds more rank than any number of stars a General could ever have, I don't see why not. Of course, for the sake of wrapping up ToAU and starting work on WotG, I can see them stopping at full-bird Colonel. Getting past that rank in the actual (American) military is beyond tremendous in terms of effort, skill, time in service, and many, many other factors; not just anybody can earn that first star, much less the fourth. I could see SE reasoning that it'd be difficult to the extreme (in this case) to allow characters to go much farther than that.

Hmmm, the Lord of Wallachia, and the legendary Japanese eight-headed serpent... ...I'm seriously wondering what other legends we'll have to face off against in this, and future, ranks.

Of course, I can't get Castlevania out of my head now for some reason.

Just call me Mhurron Belmont. At least, you can call me that if I ever get some Assault missions done.

That might be because one of Konami's best games was called Rondo of Blood.

Way to not be creative SE. Still, I want to try these new assaults.

                Konami wrote Dracula in 1897.

They also created the word Rondo.

You might want to become more familiar with the concept of homage.

*sigh* .... FFXI fans always find a way to make every topic into somekind of "Flame SE" topic.

You ask for so much from SE .. but yet you diss them with every decision they make....

Well, I don't think there is anything quite as flaming in the world or in mythology as Kuja was. Except me, of course.

I'm not one who is big on assault missions, but I am interested in Orochi and Dracula, and I may have to train up in Assault just to take them on ^^.

I'm saying things that are more then very minor monsters or the main characters.

Look at our NMs, look at how many of the ones above lv20-30~ that aren't beastmen aren't based on something from mythology.

What do you mean by creative? You mean unique origin or simply a fresh object/character? Though I can provide at least one example of either, they both can be answered by "Everything has been done once, you look like a dork by pointing it out".
