  • Mission Additions and Various Adjustments (08/02/2007)

    More info from POL.com ^^

The forthcoming version update brings us to the climax of the Aht Urhgan missions, while introducing several groundbreaking adjustments to Einherjar, the Chocobo Hot and Cold game, Besieged, and more!

    For details, click here.

The following is a sample of what awaits adventurers in the next version update:

    Treasures of Aht Urghan Missions
The final battle is about to begin, and the fate of the Empire is in your hands! Join forces with companions new and old to unlock the mysteries hidden in this final chapter of the epic Aht Urhgan missions!

For a recap of previous missions, click here.
It is recommended that players who have not yet completed "Playing the Part" avoid viewing the aforementioned link.

    Besieged
To oppose the overwhelming power of the level 8 beastmen forces, Al Zahbi's five Serpent Generals have spent the previous months honing their skills. In addition, the Empire will be putting into effect a decree which allows additional distribution of temporary items after a certain number of invaders have been defeated. Finally, if the beastmen forces are not defeated by the Empire, or capture the Astral Candesence, they will automatically retreat one Earth hour after their arrival in Al Zahbi.

    Einherjar
In an effort to lower the difficulty level of Einherjar, the HP of all monsters in the Hazhalm Testing Grounds will be reduced in the upcoming version update.
We will make further adjustments should this challenging area continue to prove excessively difficult.

    Assault Mission "Nyzul Isle Investigation"
Currently, the data for the highest floor you have investigated in Nyzul Isle will be deleted after defeating the monsters on Floor 100. Unlike with other floors, this removes the possibility of retrying the floor in an attempt to obtain the treasure you seek.
As of the next version update, the data will still be deleted after clearing Floor 100, but in exchange for the loss of data, the chance for obtaining the armor pieces will be increased to 100%.
While clearing to Floor 100 is no easy task, we are sure there are heroes out there that are up to the challenge!

The Chocobo Hot and Cold Game
    Chocobo Abilities
Resting your chocobo for thirty six hours (Earth time) after playing the Chocobo Hot and Cold game will allow you to dig twice more, as well as increase your chances to "hit the jackpot" the next time you play the game.
Furthermore, chocobos of players who succeed at finding treasure in any area three times in a row will temporarily gain the "Treasure Finder" ability. Chocobos that already have "Treasure Finder" will have the effect of the ability temporarily doubled.

    Chocobucks
A new reward will soon be available in the form of vouchers that can be exchanged for chocobucks, with the chocobuck reward varying with the difficulty of the area.
The vouchers will always be found inside the treasure chests in addition to the standard rewards.

    Limit Break Quests
With the current level of advancement of the majority of the player base, it has become increasingly difficult to find fellow adventurers who have yet to complete the limit break quests. In an effort to alleviate the woes of newer players, the limit break quests from level 50 to level 60 will have their difficulty reduced in the following manner:

    Level 50 "In Defiant Challenge"
Drop rates for the quest items will be improved.

Level 55 "Atop the Highest Mountains"
The relative strength of the quest monsters will be reduced so that a party of six level 51 characters will be able to defeat them.

I was expecting Besieged level OMGHOLYSHITWEREALLGONNADIE! I wasn't sure how they were going to fit that all in the little status window.

And the drop rates for LB1, why did it really take so long for that to happen? There was no need the papyrus had such a horrible drop rate.

There's going to be a one-hour max limit in Besieged? Interesting, now I won't have to worry about my 360 locking up in three-hour Besieges.

lol at making the Genkai 2 mobs easier... they already take a huge amount of damage, do they really need to be dumbed down that much?

At this rate, FFXI will turn into WoW in terms of difficulty. -_-.

Their point was to make Genkai easier to organize for new players. Seriously, how many people do you know that haven't already done it? Genkai 1 & 2 are huge choke points, and it's not like making them easier is going to mean lv60 will be full of noobs, it will just take the stress of making an alliance and going that long off new players.

and to be quite honest, Genkai 2 with a party Lv50~ sounds like tons o' fun.

I think the idea is that they can be handled by less then 18 people. It's easier getting 6-9 people then waiting to get over 12

I think the better question is, how many people who need to do Genkai 1 and 2 do you know who don't know at least 2 lvl 75 people?

As someone who's just now reaching LB1, it feels real shitty to have to ask the 75s you know to help with this, that, or the other. The 75s are great people, it's not them, but the feeling that even as a level 50 that I can't help myself sucks. Changing the drop rate on the LB1 items means it's less time that the 75 has to take out of what they could be doing, and the LB2 adjustment means doing it with my peers is much more feasible.

In case you couldn't guess, I applaud this change.

There are players out there who don't like a bunch of lvl 75s doing the missions for them though. In my time it took a while to get an alliance going and they didn't want to do it unless we had a tank lvl 75.

In the end I didn't feel too excited about having to pretty much wait outside while a group of 75 killed the NM I was supposed to the be fighting (specially after all the waiting involved in the process).

I'd would'be rather go with a party or two of lvl 50ish players who needed the Genkai as well, but at least I got it done.

Change the game its too hard!

Change it back it's too easy!

                      SE can't catch a break.

Personally, I think every adjustment on the list is a good thing. Other then the Maat fight, the level caps never made much sense anyway.

I think they did make sense when they were first introduced, with Genkai being an end-game activity at the time and stuff. But yeah, nowadays those NM just don't fit in anymore.

(Heck those NM didn't fit in 3+ year ago when I had to get my genkai done by a bunch of 75s )

On another note, making Einharwhatsit easier is hot. I'm glad they addressed it so fast. Now, I may be able to build groups for it.

The quests were originally introduced because SE had been increasing teh level cap by 5 every so often. By making it a quest it was something new for the people to do before they can continue on.

As far as people I know that need to do Genkai, I can think of 3 that are on another server. 2 friends of mine and some guy they met on their server. They also said they were the highest levels in their LS so those others need to do it as well.

I did it at level 52 with a full ally of people. This was back in uh... maybe Jan or Feb 2004. Was a lot of fun doing it with a whole ally of people 51-55.

....I liked those uber long besieges, it made it feel like it was an actual attack. I think if anything the length of a Besiege should be based on the amount of generals left, the funnest ones imo are those where people are hold up in the AC room fighting tooth and nail to win. The rest of those changes seem to be minor at worst in terms of changing game play but the Besiege one just takes the fun out of it. =(
