The OFFICIAL "Wings of the Goddess" @ E3 2007 Thread!
Completely screwing up the story thats been woven for 5 years now.
You can respect an opinion while at the same time saying it's complete garbage. You're asking for no one to voice a dissenting opinion, not respect them.
While I agree that it would contridict the story to add new races, thus isn't too good of an idea. I feel that explaining that in a polite fashion would have more then sufficed in this situation. Not everyone is used to some posters natural sarcasm and may be put off or antagonized by comments that seem aggressive. There is no reason to reply to an honest, well written suggestion, no matter how many times it's been said, with sarcasm, especially if you're not going to even answer the question.
As for the topic at hand, every reason to not add a new job has been stated before...and all of those reasons were completely ignored when SE added three new jobs. So while yes, new jobs may just be 'adding something for the sake of being new', but if done correctly, how is that bad?

Tivul, what Murphie tries to tell you is that new jobs would invent a new way to cut bread but just are knives with a different-coloured handle.
New playable races would bring serious problems:
#1 - Background: Altana created 5 races of light millenia ago. Why should suddenly a sixth appear. And yes, certain parts of RoZ and CoP prove that it were exactly 5 races and not more. That means a new race would either be a beastmen race - so inherently hostile towards the other five player races - or something completely different like Zilart (i.e. fallen angels, pardo for spoiler) or Moogles (incarnations of the order of the universe or whatever strange background SE will some write for them).
#2-#veryhighnumberofproblem - Game mechanics and missions: obviously SE will not suddenly rewrite the history of the Three Nations, which leads to following: Nowhere in the history would the new race have done anything worth to notice, so they would need their own starting city, their own starting area, their own missions which in the end have to lead in some very strange way to them defeating the Shadowlord - even if they are beastmen! - so that they can start the RoZ mission (and in the same problem: get an airship pass from Jeuno).
You see, if this game were WoW with two defined sides, we could just play normal beastmen, that is correct. But at the moment, the storylines of the game are just made for the Children of Altana and not for the Children of Promathia. SE had to work for one and two years just to add game content for these races to bring them to the same place where the other five are. And even if they make just one beastmen race playable they would work on this alone for a year.
Or in short: FFXI was made exactly for 5 playable races and that is fixed in the background. If not Altanas but Promathia children were the playable races it would not be such a problem to add new ones, apparently there are multiple different beastmen species all over the world.
The only possible addition I could think of, would be playable male mithra because they ... well ... they exist already in Vana'diel. The problem here (to rebalance the Galka in gender-specific events like the Valentiones Dey etc. to 'non-gender' or 'androgynous') would be noticable less work than to make a complete second half of the game for a new race.

I hope they introduce geomancer, mabye another tanking class also lol. So will their be an official event like a confrence announcing this that we can watch or will info just be released in a bit?

New races wont work in a game like XI, at all.
Adding new races is for games like WoW and the such where you can't switch jobs so you have make new characters often.
In XI they add new jobs instead. And besides most players agree that except for the extreme cases (like a galka mage compared to a taru) the differences between races are merely cosmetic, so it isn't worth throwing all the history of Vana out the window for that.
New faces and hairstyles/colors would help a bit for a cosmetic improvement but the PS2 wont let it happen.
So.... maybe Manthras? Let's say Cid found a way to clone them so they aren't as rare.
Girlkas would be way too much for my sanity though.

This would be something I'm sure FFXI could really benefit from and that all players would agree with so it's a shame that the PS2 is preventing this. The only issue would be players with existing characters wanting to change their own, however, if SE implemented a limited time only chance to change your character so you could use the new features that could be that problem solved. Damn you PS2 >_>!
I have faith in SE, 17/18 jobs are great, and the only one with any real problems is due to the fact it was created off a weak concept anyway. I certainly don't believe SE is out of job ideas when so many players here can and have created some very interesting concepts.
And I think we're all in agreement that new races would be too difficult to add without altering way too much of the story and history. Even the one who suggested it understood why it was a frowned upon concept once it was explained to him.

Re: The OFFICIAL "Wings of the Goddess" @ E3 2007 Thread!
In the new expansion besides the main content whatever that may be...from time travel like some have guessed that maybe SE could go the route of airships like in FF12 I'd love to have my own airship like baltheir...but that'll prolly never happen.
it'd be another huge gil sink if they ever implement it by upkeeping your ship with repairs...
But so many other things would go unused...chocos perhaps...airships from city to city.
and maybe another mode of transportation isn't needed...just a thought.
edit: just remembered SWG did that after the NGE and it went down the drain.... NEVERMIND SE!!!

Thanks for that, Sev. Now we at least have some random images to speculate about (and some semi-nifty concept art).
I cropped that large image at the top and made it my new desktop. Wish my monitor was widescreen.

It was a dark and dreadful age.

They remember the hope that burned in the darkness.
The companions that banded together.
The heroes that strove onwards.
The rivals that joined forces.
And now history is reborn, as we return to that age of strife...
