    Re: Version Update Complete! (06/05/2007)

They just keep pushing that line closer and closer to Big G, don't they?

As long as it's actually *possible* to get it, I sure as shit won't mind this thing. Mezraq has served me well ever since its introduction, and I'll be more than happy to retire it for Valkyrie's Fork.

BTW, I'm just loving all these Valkyrie Profile refrences in this update. Hopefully, if not in later TAU updates, then maybe Wings will carry a few Vagrant Story refrences (since SE likes to toss in a few things from their other franchises; I'm waiting to see a gun named Einhander, for Corsair, of course ).

You DO realize that both Valkyrie Profile and the content you speak of in FFXI are based on mythology, right? God, I hope so...

        Mezraq just got owned!

Does anyone have a full list of the new items yet? Also, Legal Fish could you possibly try to not be a complete jerk and shut others down? Thank you...

Legal, you give me too little credit.

I could spew a good page or so on Norse mythology and the valkyrie's role in choosing the All-Father's warriors for Ragnarok (as well as their other roles in dealing with the souls of the departed), but I'm fairly sure most people here are at least aware of that much, so I won't.

I'm pointing to the fact that, due to SE's tendency to skew mythology, and the way they like to refrence their other franchises within their games, I'm banking that this is indeed a Valkyrie Profile refrence, and not just a simple translitiration of Norse mythology. VP *itself* was the translitiration; by existing, Lenneth and Silmeria gave SE the opportunity to make a few fans happy with some nods here and there.

According to my friend who's trying to replace his abyssal with a suppa, you have to throw away the earring you have before you can get the quest again.

One thing I just can't get my head around:

              Level 8 Besieged?

They KNOW the complaints with the playerbase about lag with current levels, and if they don't know about the problems of monsters drawing in and the headaches in trying to support the Serpent Generals, they will soon.

I mean, come on. Was another level of Besieged really necessary?

I've never heard of an Arabian society with Norse mythology. Square has done it again!

It makes me wonder if Asgard/Asgarth will be TOAU's sky/sea, if it has one. It doesn't look like Valgrind will qualify. I just hope it's another good looking zone, and Asgard would certainly fit the bill.

I like that under Valgrind is listed "???'s Chamber." It kinda makes me wonder if they know what that chamber is yet. But I'm looking forward to trying out Einherjar; I like short and intense battles.

The CoP changes don't look too bad. I think they went overboard with the Snoll Tzar, with the salt's use time going down to one freakin second, but I always assumed the snoll was just a random boss in the storyline and not a pivotal event. So it doesn't bother me all that much.

And I gotta say, I want to be this taru:

But not really? It's just an "Odin" based zone, so of course it would have mythology related to him.

These aren't really VP references any more than they are some other company's some other game which is also based on mythology references.

Re BP: Those are definately problems that need to be addressed, but entirely seperate and more complicated issues than the fact that besieged isn't challenging enough. Fixing that is pretty simple. You may have different opinions about exactly how difficult the event should be, but I feel that if nothing else Lakshmi and Siren should lose at some point. If the challenge isn't sufficient enough to make the outcome uncertain, then it's underbalanced in my opinion.

Like i said it was more then just this board i look at a couple everyone always says they get the shaft and before anyone touches the game starts to cry. Overall there is plenty for everyone so people needed to take a deep breath and atleast touch the game post update.

I am on your side on this one. Pretty positive Tri-Ace didn't inspire the Square side to say "Lets make some VP refrences!". All of Salvage gear is a mythology reference and many more.

I seriously doubt the testing grounds will be the "final zone" for ToAU, unless it somehow ties into the current string of new missions.

Like the ruins before it, hazhalm is just part of another minigame like Assault/Salvage. Interesting though how a lot of the gear from it has extra effects when doing Salvage...

No, my guess is that the end game area will come in the next (and possibly final ToAU) update. Of course I could be wrong, especially given that Einherjar has abjurations and well, involves the freaking underworld but this is all speculation for now.

In the mean time I want to do the new missions and find out where this is all going.

well, 20 accuracy swapped for 10 attack and 10 evasion isn't exactly the 'best' trade, but if a warrior were determined to eat sushi in a merit pt I'd actually rather they were in this piece (assuming the rest of their gear was sufficient) than in an e.body.

this is a nice alternative piece for DD pld who might not have homam though (might it be better than homam body? I'd have to ask a paladin I guess - I suspect it isn't)

I'm expecting at least one more new abjuration set to be added when they add the third wing, by the way. (covering the remaining jobs, possibly excluding blu/cor/pup) rng/thf/bst/drg/sam/mnk/nin ish.

I too found the heavy breastplate(Shadow Breasplate set) of the new abjurations kind of redudant. It seems like an odd fusion of Koenig and Adaman. If they wanted to give DRK a set that gave tanking bonuses, they should of just latched them unto Koenig(which should of been the case from the start).

Now if they were to add more new abjuration sets... I'd say they should go for an Akenton, Jacket, and Peti. Cloth, Leather, and Alchemy synths, in that order.

                              PUP/BST/SMN/DRG - Based on sacrificing all base stats(STR, DEX, ect) for pet enhancements(Refresh, Regen, Haste, Attack+, Accuracy+, MAB+, MAcc+)

THF/COR/BLU/RNG - Based on sacrificing Attack, Ranged Attack, and MAB(all of these are rather mild, not extreme like Zenith's penalties) for Accuracy, Ranged Accuracy, and Magic Accuracy. (At least one piece with "Recyle" and another with "Ninja Tools Expertise")

DRG/SAM - Makes the a "Arcana" in terms of negative Killer Effects(against Undead), gives a lot of Haste, Double Attack, Subtle Blow+, and Zanshin enchantments.

Kind of leaves out NIN and MNK, but since Harness and Gi sets have already been made, not much else they share.

Besieged truly does need some adjsutments. Each wave's numbers(as in numbers of monsters), should be based on the number of players when they arrivie in the zone. I don't remember counting, but I recall seeing around 12 Bhoots enter together at once. Let's say that's the case with 700 players... if there is only 500 players, you'll get 8 Bhoots instead... if there is only 300 players, you'll get 5 Bhoots instead.

And make Generals immune to Death/Doom.

I seriously doubt the testing grounds will be the "final zone" for ToAU, unless it somehow ties into the current string of new missions.
Then, what would be the final zone? Nothing in the .dats support another area. The best we could hope for if the rearrange nyzul isle map into something like Limbus, but that seems unlikely.

People might have to live with: Besieged, 5 Assault areas, 6 HNMs, 9-12 Besieged related NMs, Nyzul Assault, Salvage, and Einherjar.

The manual sort function for Magic, Abilities, Items, etc. has been changed from "interchange" to "insert."
I like this change. It took me a little bit to get the hang of the new behavior. At first, I thought it was some kind of bug when I did some manual sorting while crafting. And then I remembered this detail in the update.

Unfortunately, it only appears to be working with your pack. Mog Safe and Mog Locker were still behaving the same way with manual sorting as they did before the update. This makes things rather confusing. I hope they fix this soon.
