Well, they said there's supposed to be a lot of new recipes... Of course, before when they said that, all we got was some warmed over crap no one really wanted (Copper Bullets, weapons that aren't as good as other weapons available in the same level range, etc.). In order to make any new syntheses worthwhile, they have to top things like Errant/Mahatma, SH, Hauby and the like...

I'm sure Hantz has skilled up his eroticism since that picture was taken.

I'll be interested to see the details of the new armor when it arrives. Not that I'll personally be getting any for some time to come (if ever!)

Well I suppose you could be forgiven for that.

This could be synth, sure, but there's still a lot of good crafting options at high level as far as gear goes. Its just hard to top Sky, Assault, Salvage and Nyzul gear in regards to all-in-one functions. Low level gear 1-30, could use some buffing, but from 30 and especially 50 onward, its very balanced out with the possible exception of PUP gear.

Thing about PUP is people play it against its design, so they want melee gear over mage and SE has to think around their original design of PUP like they had to eventually do with NIN.

I'm really hoping SE has some plans for alternative recipies for BST jugs in this one. Its really overdue and rather ridiculous that they haven't at least addressed the problems with high level jugs by offering new recipies with alternative materials. SE can start to address BST from that angle at the very least.

New weapons, as always, are welcomed, I'm pretty happy with my RNG and COR weapons at 75, but some new stuff wouldn't hurt.

*stares drunkenly at all the mithra tails in the room and cracks a laugh* tail... more tail! weee *tugs on one of the tails*

P.S. Maybe they can offer a suit that put a pretty pink bow on mithra tails? haha pretty...

Cue another derail .. what do you suppose the intended design for pup was that would make mage gear desirable for them? Like smn they have no innate magic skills which make any mage sub other than whm largely useless to them, and like brd they have no natural mp which precludes them from main healing. For support that just leaves /brd and /cor doesn't it? Both are rather underwhelming as subs in the majority of situations. As I see it, boosting their melee effectiveness, which they do have some innate ability in, is the only thing that really makes sense to do with the master's equipment.

Well, I can't think of a "performer" class that really was ever a frontliner. Also SE did initially describe COR, BLU and PUP as "support classes" before ToA. It was pretty clear from the gear initially given PUP was intended to be a backline supporter that sent their pet to the frontline in their stead, if at all.

At least, that's how I saw it at the time, but people always want to steer a job to melee if they can get away with it. Plus sitting back and backup curing doesn't sound very fun.

I don't buy SE's talk if it being "intended to solo" when they've said their intentions were otherwise for BST. Soloing is something both jobs are extremely capable of, but also something players in those jobs are forced to do if they want EXP at all. Superstition plays a big role against them and all pet jobs for that matter.

Now that its established that PUPs want to melee, solo and possibly even tank, SE has to think of ways to allow them to do that. Problem as I see it is that thier Group 2s (much like BST) are awesome for solo, but not alliance play like COR and BLU Group 2s are. SE had a chance to buff PUP for endgame play and pretty much blew it.

Salvage gear for PUP is nice to aspire too, but they still lack melee gear elsewhere. It still needs to be worked out in the middle ranges. The adjustments to Pulling the Strings and various assault automation drops will ease things on that end a bit.

I'd like to see SE keep rolling with the idea of customizing the automation. They appear to be getting WHM and BLM modes on top of the RDM-ish one they have now. Aside from that, there's a WAR and RNG mode, why not a BRD or COR mode (Music Box and Game Box attachments)? Let them fill roles in PTs, if only in a limited way, maybe such frames could get their own set of songs/rolls.

I also say give PUP a quested weaponskill of their own or, at the very least, a quested automation weaponskill. Pretty ridiculous they cant quest a H2H WS as it is.

Re: Item Changes and Additions (6/1/2007)

I maintain that S-E had no clue what they were doing when they put PUP together, The more I hear, the more it becomes apparent that it was a rather hasty mish-mash of ideas and then called a job class.

They say it was intended for solo play, but I doubt they're on the level, elsewise they'd have teased the fans with the premier of a new solo job before ToAU was even released. They didn't know what PUP was.

I say give them light melee/ranged gear access, take away the H2H, and give them the A-rated Throwing skill... with access to the all-new Throwing Weapon Skills we've been waiting on...

                                ...

                                ...

Until then... just give them the light melee gear and Asuran Fists access, MNK bellyaching be damned.
