It depends how long you holding for. Tiamat that the GS were holding, they had 30+ people at Tiamat and were still only stunning and Cure V for an hour. That is holding. They had no intention of killing, just stopping other ls from killing. Hell, DoTing Ulli to death was never considered holding...

Exactly, Kirst. And really, without more information on Little Ninja's situation, it's impossible to make a judgment. Still, it doesn't appear that he was banned, so I'm not sure what he's talking about anyway.

Yes one of my friends was accidentally banned within all this. Apparently, he was reported twice for using a speed hack when he was really using those boots that make you run really fast. He called a GM who looked at his inventory to confirm the boots were there, and now he's back. Just thought I'd share this for anyone else who had the same problem.

Just like the real law system, they only take action when a real crime has been broken. And it's bad to fish with 50 people at a spot. There isn't a rule that says: "Fishing with 50 people at one spot is forbidden." That's exactly the problem about it. They do have their own ways to find out if people are botters or not. If a GM talks to you, while your character is moving, and you don't reply, you could get (temporarily?) banned.

FFXI Gil is something that does exist. Hmm, what to compare it to. You could see FFXI as a hobby, you see, and people want to grow their "hobby" to something big. Such as, a model-train collector, buys new houses or rails. The thing about FFXI gil being something you can't touch, is not really meaning it doesn't exist.
You can't touch God can you? (But on the other hand, God, religion, is something way different ofcourse.)
I'm thinking of a better something to compare it too. Hmm.. well, new area's or jobs in an expansion pack don't "really" exist either, other than a bunch of scripts and files, but "Gil" is somewhere in your game files too.

And about the warehouses, it's usually something what a bit older young people do, as they see it as a real job. A lot of them are actually farmers who have gone to the city to "become rich". If you're more interested, try to find some documentary's about RMT in online games.

And Gil is isn't in "your data files", it's in "SE's files". That's a very large difference. Whether Gil exists or not is irrelevant, buying Gil is buying a chance to improve your game. Buying Gil is like paying the dealer in monopoly to give you extra bills by 'mistake'- except if your mother catches you, you're both getting kicked out of family game night. Because in the end, while you might be the one holding on to the bills, the entire monopoly set- the board, the bills, the figures, and the cards, belong to Momma. Or, in this case SE.

Intellectual property would have been a far better analogy. Whether you think it should be considered property or not, it's recognized as something you can own. And you can't physically touch intellectual property.

I agree to that, buying gil is just plain stupid! Don't waste money on a game! If anything, you can farm the gil together with time. Besides, buying expensive with bought gil isn't really an accomplishment, now is it?
