I've lost alot of friends in the 2+ years I've been in this game, and when I asked them why they were going, the answer always boiled down to problems that stemmed from the *people* in the game, not the game itself.
This will be true of any MMO. The best thing about any MMO is the people you interact with. The worst thing about any MMO... is the people you interact with. It's a two-edged sword.

It's a lot like life in that respect. The difference between an MMO community and your RL community is that you can't just cancel RL like you cancel your MMO account.

You can't remove the potential of disappointment and heartbreak from an MMO without also removing the potential for the great experiences which draw us in and endear us to them.

I learned the lesson a few years ago, but I guess I forgot. I'm going to get it tattooed on my arm or something. :/

Forehead works better, just get it written backwards.

That wouldn't go over well in the office. Then again, it IS an important lesson.

So... just because a game doesn't make me take it on as a full-time second job means it must *naturally* be too easy and a WoW clone?
LotR looks exactly like WoW and plays very similar. It's one of many new MMORPGs that are inspired by WoW's success. Just like FFXI was inspired by EQ's success... though FFXI is much less of a clone, as anyone who's played EQ could tell you.

I'd gladly take XI for whatever it was, easy or hard, if it was still fun. But the sheer nature of things, largely due to just the stubbornness and attitude of the community, drain that fun from it. When I started, this game was great. As I've progressed, it's paled down to nothing.
First off, please lay off the emo, I could hardly choke that all down.

Second, you agree you are no longer having fun with the game? Well, I am, and so is the majority of the people who play this game despite what is said on forums. Why change what I like when you won't be happy ever unless you switch to another game.

If you want to continue this, please keep it what it is: a debate / argument about lowering the difficulty of CoP... not a myspace.

Well why not take what works from a game thats successful and put a new spin on it? Thats what LOTR did. As well as a few other MMO's. I'm sure they looked at FFXI. An saw how flawed it was.

An there was nothing emo about Telera's post. Pretty much what they said is the truth. As sad as it may be.

You know when i think about it i can see why S.E is trying to tone down the game. They based there game off of a community type atmosphere. But what happens when the community has died down. or moved on? It leaves dormant allot of its content. So in the end we have a ton of content none of us could ever experience. Because we lack the 6-12-18 man pts.

Its sad, but in the end reducing the degree of difficulty wont improve the fact that without a willing community, We still have nothing except the same exact problem we started off with.

I don't care if games are "WoW"-like or not, I just want my game to not become WoW-like... not that it is per-say. There are plenty of "non-hardcore" games, but rarely any games like FFXI... I mean, there isn't any game on the market quite like FFXI with it's developed community and storyline.

And what you are saying is practically all opinion, which is okay in an argument, but none of this is related to subject at hand.

And something being true/fact doesn't make it any less emo. I don't understand your point.

The developed community is the biggest set back of FFXI. The storyline is nice. But what happens if your new to this game, or further back in all the storylines? Then your pretty much "SOL". Thsu there goes the development of a storyline because you cant progress it.

So how do you like your truth then? You don't like it wrapped up in EMo. You don't like it straight up. Should we twist it and warp it till it fits your own reality?

Shit out of luck? It's not nearly as hard to get people to do missions as you make it seem. If you have a good LS or two, it's incredibly easy actually.

Easy, don't write a two page essay on personal experiences and random complaints that are off topic.

Little ninja, you go out of your way to be a huge "negative nancy", it's rather ridiculous when every single one of your posts is a complaint. Why do you even play FFXI?

I'm a lurker and I've been reading this for a while now. I wanted to see if we could steer this discussion in a new direction.

I remember this time I had a college professor kill a circular debate and I'd like to try that out here. He wanted the topic of abortion to be discussed on different terms than the issue usually was. His terms were:

                        (1) If you are for abortion, are you willing to pay for that abortion out of your own wallet?

                        (2) If you are against abortion, will you adopt the child and raise them as your own?

We were also forbidden to use words such as "pro-life" "pro-choice" "pro-abortion" and "anti-abortion" because such words colored the debate.

It was the most sane discussion about the topic I had ever witnessed. Both sides were disarmed off the bat, they had to think differently about thier stance on the issue.

While this obviously isn't as serious as that discussion, I'd like to pose similar questions and a new debate since we've clearly worn the other one out:

                        (1) If you are for the changes, will you persue CoPs and other future missions as soon as they're implemented?

                        (2) If you are against the changes, are you willing to help the first people you see shouting for help on CoPs in Whitegate or Jeuno?

Forbidden terms: Elite, Elitism, Exclusive, noob, newb, Watered-Down, Dumbed-down, World of Warcraft, Star Wars Galaxies or anything similar.

I should also mention my professor never told us what his stance on abortion truly was. No biting, no clawing, no hitting below the belt, kids.

Guess what not all LS's are sugar an spice an everything nice. An if it was as easy as you make it all out to be. Then there wouldn't need to be a toning down of older content.

What am i even complaining about you ask? I am not the only one to state its a bunch of crap to locate players to help with any type of storyline. Hell it was the same problem back when FFXI was new. I can only imagine how it is nowadays with 2 more expansions. Odd how you can call it off topic. When its been brought up over 13 pages worth, but whatever.

IF its negative for me to say that the tweaking of the difficulty level is lame. Then i guess i am.

I think he's asking that because if your stance is that it isn't that hard to do CoPs, then it shouldn't be hard for you to help with CoPs now.

Its kinda like if you're a big advocate for the baby being born, you should be willing to raise it. If you want things to stay as is, does that mean you will help others to sea?

Question one in favor of the patch is unfair now that i think about it. I could see it working if CoP was some what new. But it is already a few years old. Unless hes referring to the up coming update. In wich in that case is still lopsided.

As for helping out. I have been thru promys on my own. both failures an successful runs. Plus i have helped out while in 4 other ls's. Poor excuse as it may be. But let those who only ran thru it once for only themselves help out.
