I liked the challenge in COP. I think SE just needs to strike a balance though. Some of the COP missions were a bit tedious (either in length or from all the preparation needed) while ToAU is a cake walk. We need that happy medium.

I thought that RoZ was a good ballance between easy missions (just talk to npcs) and hard missions (but not nearly as hard as CoP missions). The only proublem with RoZ is that it was too short (only like 12 missions in total?).

I am glad they have easy (ROZ & ToAU) missions and hard ones (CoP), because they give many different players something to do. Alot of the player base are not hard core gamers that have lots of time and money to do things the best way, so the easier missions cater to them, while more difficult missions keep the more serious players interested.

I spent a little over 200k on CoP, can hardly say thats alot of money. You dont need to be hardcore either, if you do a mission at a time it only takes 1-2hours provided someone knows what they are doing and is willing to take charge of the group they form.

I was speaking generally. I know anyone can get CoP done if they really try hard. I was just saying a wide variety of difficulties caters to a wide variety of players.

Btw, 200k by my standards is a pretty big chunk of change to be throwing at missions.

It's not really that much. You can make that with just the smallest amount of effort.

The hardest part about CoP missions is simply finding and organizing the people to do it with. The missions? Not hard. The cost? Negligible. You can farm most everything you need, and the things you don't aren't that expensive (subjective, I realize, but seriously folks, 200k over the entire course isn't so bad).

CoP is not hard, it's time consuming. It's also unforgiving to idiots and people that don't listen.

200k, thats spread out over all the missions. If you did them all one after the other with no break then it would be a lot, but even just doing one a week, you'd be able to make back and more what you spent over the weekend. (again assuming you're not an idiot)

No, they are just self absorbed and won't help people unless there's something it it for them.

Apparently doing this for fun is too much to expect in a game.

I think the original CoP was too hard, before they nerfed the empty mobs aggro range and a few of the NMs. In the end I dont think many people were impressed with the reward vs effort involved for CoP. Now I think they are just making it easy for people to get through quickly as they realize what a failure CoP was.


SE is really trying to keep the playerbase happy these days. Gotta admit this is a huge turn around for them in the past two years. Two expansions in two years...

Im not sure if its true but someone in my linkshell keeps saying that there has been 18months between each expansion and this one is due out aroundish the 18month mark since ToAU.

FFXI NA Release w/ ROZ: Oct 28/2003 (PC)
CoP Release: Sept 21/2004
ToAU Release: April 18/2006

So what we have is RoZ -> CoP - 11 Months
CoP -> ToAU - 19 Months
ToAU -> WotG -> 20 Months (assuming December release)

Personally I'm shocked and depressed, where did 2 years go?
