Attention all adventurers new to Vana'diel! The New Player's Guide has been updated with seven new movies! Chapter 3 includes practical advice on leveling your character, communicating with other players, plus many other hints and tips for the novice adventurer.

Good stuff. They warn you (very diplomatically) not to send blind invites and to talk to players before forming parties with them. The /seacom's shown are a little skimpy on information, but it conveys the general concept and is better than nothing.

Skillchains are demonstrated, but magic bursts are not.

I'm a little concerned about the sword-using WAR, though, that it might be teaching bad habits. Hopefully at some later time they'll discuss skill caps, how different jobs are better with different weapon types, and choosing a weapon that is well suited to your job and role in the party.

A little more information about *how* to deal with linking mobs might be helpful, but at least they raise the issue which might make some players more aware of it.

I wish they would hurry up and finish.

I'm kind of waiting on them to start my complete newbie guide.

Aside from seeing a WAR/WHM and a THF/NIN(at level 16) in the video, it was pretty good. The Galka party thing made me laugh.

You have to admit though, WAR/WHM does show distinct benefit of subjob. (Beside, that guy was soloing ) I hope they'll expand further on subjob choice, though.

I really love summer festival music played when Quadav train happened.

I don't think the THF/NIN could have been 16 - he was clearly dual wielding. THF/NIN doesn't get that until 20, which is one of the reasons it's not a good idea to do it so early. THF/NIN 20-23 isn't that great, but isn't clearly terrible either - you can get decent WS while still keeping a dagger for DoT, TP gains and skillup (if you don't have it skilled already from another job).

They always wear weird gear in the videos and promo shots. I wouldn't focus on that particular aspect too much. It's supposed to be illustrating the mechanics of partying, not what gear you specifically should be wearing. I am a bit interested in the fact that they made a point to talk about WAR/WHM in a positive way. I guess they really did at one point expect folks to sub anything they wanted, regardless of actual functionality.
