The optimus keyboard is the stupidest piece of vapor ware i've ever seen. while it's a good idea in theory, the horrible cost makes it highly impractical. You know what would've been a better idea? Make a touchscreen minicomputer with drivers to translate it into keyboard instructions in windows. MUCH more customizable, and touchscreens would be about half the 1200$ price I keep seeing the optimus estimated at.

Touch screen displays have lousy tactile feedback; every time I see movies/anime/manga using some variant of it as "typing" input device, I gag. (Especially when robots are typing on them--what the heck? Bluetooth interface from robot to computer terminal too expensive?! UWB should be ubiquitous in any future, to boot.)

Optimus isn't really all that revolutionary. Copycat device will appear once OLED prices drop enough, and it won't be $1490. (Yes, that's the price of Optimus Maximus; it's real enough that the company is willing to take your money. ^_^; )

What I'd like to see in a physical key input device is something which can change physical key layout programmatically--like, key sizes and key locations--and still maintain excellent tactile feedback like pressing on a normal keyboard. Oh, it should be able to change key labels on the fly, too, of course.

Now, that would be something.

I realize that about touchscreens, but it's still much better than a costly optimus...especially considering they're probably sacrificing keyboard quality for the LCDs

by physical changes..you mean like those things with the metal rods in them that you put your hand in to to make molds or crap? That would work, put some LEDs on the end of each pin. Highly expensive, but extremely cusomizable, and would be responsive to touch.

I'm all for gil being removed from the system...but only because I was lucky and deflation started while I was sitting on money. >_> It's going to make the last of the SAM gear I want to buy be under 1m by the time I get there though.

Oddly enough, I half expect to be banned every time they do these mass bannings. I lag-jump all over the place. I've never had a GM talk to me unless I called him/her myself though, so I guess I don't really need to worry.

do you mean DC-trick "turn off modem and run past true sight" lag jump, or "god I wish I had a better internet connection" lag jump?

If it's the second, I highly doubt SE will ban you for it. They tend to go for easier to prove things, like running->teleporting->running, all within a few seconds, or running to places you can't reach, like getting into aery. (Fun story, there was a GM in the Fafnir spawn room once on my server, since some LSes had complained about botting, he saw a guy run up the stairs from the outside and speedhack into the room, banned him on the spot)

If you do have lag problems though, I wouldn't worry about them too much, unless you tend to lag for loooong periods of time, especially while using a movement speed up effect like flee or hermes quencher. Even then, I doubt a GM would ban you without getting your side of the story... but then, people get banned for overclocking fairly regularly.

The "I really need to move out to somewhere where I can get a real internet connection" type of lag jump.

I just get a lot of people that check me and tell me: "y u run thru wall?" When I actually ran around it like everybody else does on my screen.

I do avoid flee though... I found out if I r0 while flee is on, it doesn't turn off until I stop r0ing. >_>a

Personally, if I were playing FFXI, i'd prefer dialup to that.

if you have cash, you might be able to get a T1 line or something, but that's not really something I know much about.

No, dial-up on 35ish year old phonelines that barely work. I can't replace them because I don't own the house. I'm at about half dial-up speed. >_>

Ah. Well, judging from your avatar, I have to say it's hard to see a fellow geek struggle. I know how it feels man, my PC is about comperable to a dreamcast.

I do want a new computer, this one is showing it's age too. (512MB RAM max!) But I'm making myself wait until I've moved.

I don't hate these mass bannings, it's nice to see SE doing something (I'd kind of prefer seeing measures taken to prevent cheating/RMTing instead of just wiping them out and watching them recreate...). But there's not much left to talk about on these monthly bannings.
