          A) Not SE's problem
          B) Not MS's problem either

If you have a problem with something on Vista, contact the vendor and tell them.

Well the POL bit works fine

But FFXI refuses to recognicse that POL is installed so stuffed again really

Back to the 360 version then...

            Carter.

*edit* - feeling stupid atm...may have asolution to this problem...

Wondering if maybe you have to have the CD for FFXI in there and run POL. Possibly install it through POL much like how PS2 players install an expansion.

you can't download the actual game. you must use your game cd's.

                  have you tried?
                  1. dl and install vista pol
                  2. install ffxi from your game disks
                  3. play

                  Thanks Yyg!

Yeah, I got tricked by his wording too. Read it very carefully he's using the term download very broadly. He does mention putting in the CDs and it is not recognizing that POL is installed.

you know, the easy fix for all this is to just use XP
seriously, why bother with vista? it's not worth it (yet)

Yeah, aside from the annoying UAC everything else Vista can do I've got my system doing on XP. Even could do that fancy scrolling of windows they like to show off, with a moddified explorer shell.

Still pissed though that they made that stupid decision to not upgrade XP so it can burn DVDs. Small annoyance since I had to get a program to do that but oh well. If anyone wanted to call a company money hungry Microsoft is definatly it.

I'll be even more pissed if Microsoft decides to not make Vista able to burn HD-DVD or Blu-Ray and put it on a next coming OS that will have little extra benefits and more annoying security functions because they can't secure their damn system right.

                          Okeeee fixed it...I hope

If your copy of FFXI isn't recognising that PlayOnline is installed it's becasue you've downloaded the wrong version of POL an dinstalled it without realising it (like me!)

You need to go to the Playonline EU site and follow the links there.

The Euro version 60.6 MB and not 59. something.

Good luck. After I unistalled POL it wouldn't reinstall teh Euro version without me manually deleting loads of PlayOnline entries from the registry so be carful

                          Carter.

Re: Concerning Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM) Compatibility (Mar. 22)

                            For those of you who are playing on JP clients, additional information concenrning IME is provided at JP Playonline site, which translates as follows (Italic sentenses represent my personal comments);

                            - Common to all PlayOnline-compatible software

Windows-specific characters (such as ① or "1" with the circle) can not be correctly displayed, and turns into characters like "?" and "=". You may disable the Windows-specific characters in IME configuration so that they won't be displayed.

*How to disable: Check "Only display JIS X 10208-compliant characters" (JIS X 10208文字で構成された単語/文字のみ表示する) under "IME Property" -> "Conversion" (変換) -> "IME character conversion limitation" (IME文字変換制限)

User-registered dictionary can't be used for character conversion on POL Viewer.
(Note: It doesn't say FFXI, so kaomoji can probably be used on FFXI, just POL affected.)

                            - FINAL FANTASY XI

Occasionally, FFXI shuts down when switching the Japanese input mode (i.e. Romaji-input -> Kana input) in game. Please refrain from switching the input mode while playing FFXI.
(Note: Don't get this confused with switching between Romaji input and plain alphabet input. That's not what this is talking about.)

F10 function of IME (forced plain alphabets) can't be used. Instead, you may press F10, then F11 for the same function.

                            - FRONT MISSION ONLINE

                            (Omitted)

I'm not sure if any of you play on JP clients any longer... but just so you know.
